Lesson Plan # ____

Date: May 3, 2021

General Mathematics

I. Objectives
At the end of an hour, the learner can:
A. define a relation and a function;
B. illustrate a relation and a function; and
C. realize the application of relation and function in real – life situation.
ll. Subject Matter

Topic: Function as model

Strategies: Cooperative-Pair Learning

Discussion Method
Socratic Method
lll. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Prayer

“ Let us pray”
(After prayer) Students will pray.

B. Checking of Attendance
“Good morning class, let me check your
attendance first; who is absent today?”
“Very good! “ Students will respond.
( After checking the attendance)

C. Motivation

The teacher will present pictures to the

students that show relationships in real-life. Then,
will give an activity sheet which will be done in pair. Students will participate and do the activity.
Students may ask random questions.
Questions:
1. What kind of relationship is shown in the
given picture?
2. Describe their relationship.
3. When can you say that a relationship if
functioning?

D. Lecture Proper

“We will now discuss our new topic in which

that activity relates with. This is about
Functions and Relations.”

The word relation is usually associated with family or

marriage. It could also mean an association between
two parties such as a brother and a sister, a teacher Students will listen attentively and respond to
and his/her students, or a parent and his/her questions.
children.
In mathematics, the relationship between two
parties can be illustrated using functions and
relations.
A relation is a rule that relates values from a set
of values (called the domain) to a second set of
values (called the range).
 The elements of the domain can be imagines
as input to a machine that applies rule to these
inputs to generate one or more outputs.
 A relation is also a set of ordered pairs (x, y).

The set or ordered pairs is an example of a

relation.

Types of Relation
a. One-to-one
b. Many-to-one
c. One-to-many

(Teacher will define each type)

Function is a relation in which each element of the

input (domain) corresponds to exactly one element
of the output (range).

One-to-one and many-to-one relations are Function

and the one-to-many is not a function.

E. Application

Identify whether the relationship that exists between

each of the following pairs indicates a function or not
and illustrate their relationship in any representation Students will do the activity collaborating with
you prefer. others, facilitated by the teacher.

1. A jeepney and its plate number.

2. A teacher and his cellular phone.
3. SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 and its symptom.
4. Community Quarantine and its level.

F. Generalization

In general, evaluating a function means finding

the value of the given function for a particular value
of the independent variable. When evaluating
functions, substitute the assigned value to the Students will give their generalization.
corresponding variable.
IV. Evaluation

Determine whether the relations are functions or

not and under what circumstances. Remember that a
relation is a function if there is only one output for
each input. Students will answer the given problem individually.

V. Assignment
Do as indicated. On your assignment notebook, state the rule in:

1. Simplifying rational expressions.

2. Adding and subtracting rational expressions with like denominators and unlike denominators
