(2022). EMA vs MMA: Is your full set actually bad for you? Nest Nail Wellness
Spa. https://nestnailwellness.com/blog/ema-vs-mma-is-your-full-set-actually-bad-
for-you/
This source talks about which monomers are safe to use when doing or
getting your nails done. There are two types of monomer (the purple chemical
liquid used with acrylic powder for acrylic nails). One type of monomer has EMA
(ethyl methacrylate) which is the safe monomer to use and is FDA approved, while
on the other hand MMA (methyl methacrylate) is very unsafe to use and over time
can cause swelling on the cuticles and or nailbeds. MMA can also cause
esophageal cancer. Many salons like to buy cheaper products in order to charge
less and get more people through the door. The cheaper the nail set, the worse it
can be for your nails. This information can be useful for the next time you decide
to get your nails done.
