1. A uniform semicircular ring having mass m and radius r is hanging at one of its end (P)
freely as shown in the given figure. The ring is slightly disturbed so that it oscillates in its
own plane. The time period of oscillation of the ring is?

2. A steel rod of cross sectional area 1 m2 is acted upon by forces

shown in figure. The elongation of the length BC of the rod is
(Y  2 1011 N / m2 )

3.   ax  bt  2

Equation of a travelling wave is y  e  
when x and y are in meter and t is in sec. Find
(a) Direction in which the wave move?
(b) Wave speed?

4. 3
A string of length ℓ is fixed tightly between two rigid supports. Of all the possible wavelength for which x 

is an antinode, the third largest allowed wavelength is (‘x’ is measured from one fixed end)

5. The rollers are cylindrical rollers and there is no slipping at any

contact point. All springs are ideal. Find time period of small
oscillation of the block of mass M.

6. The half of a thin uniform hollow cylinder cutoff by the plane

through its axis is performing small oscillation on its horizontal
floor (θ  0). R is the radius of the cylinder and L is the length of
the cylinder. C be the centre of the flat base of the cylinder, and G
is the centre of mass of the cylinder, so that CG = 2R/π. The mass
of the uniform hollow cylinder is m.

Find the time period of small oscillation of the cylinder if

(a) If the horizontal floor is rough enough to prevent any sliding
(b) The horizontal floor is smooth

7. Two small bodies with masses m and 2m are attached to a spring of negligible mass. Initially
the compressed spring form a straight vertical line, when both objects are launched with same
velocities v0 = 1 m/s in the horizontal direction as shown in the figure. Initial height of the lower
body is h = 1 m from the ground, while distance of heavier body is 2h = 2m. After t = 0.1 sec
from the launch, lower body hits the ground.
Determine height H (in m) of the upper body from the ground at that moment of time.
(assume no air drag and g = 10 m/s2)

8. Linear density of a wire varies linearly from μ1 to μ2 along the length of the wire. The time taken by a
pulse to pass from one end to other end is?
