Good day Grade 7! How are you doing today? Let’s continue to explore new
things in our Social Studies class. In this week’s lesson, you’ll learn about the
Implications of Resources Nature and Physical Environment in Asian lifestyle.
Asia faces growing vulnerability to natural disasters, flooding, drought, and other
transboundary environmental problems, with severe consequences for rural and urban
communities, food security, economic growth, and political stability. Ultimately, solutions
require collective political will: stakeholders from across sectors working toward a shared
vision for socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development. The Asia
Foundation, drawing upon 60 years of governance experience, plays an essential role in
helping Asian countries address critical national and regional environmental challenges.

Asia is rich in different types of natural resources. The is big its implications for the lifestyle of Asians.
Natural resources dictate if the area is habitable. Just an example of land resources. When it comes to
agriculture the Asians are not lagging behind. They can do things food products that they can benefit from
at low cost. Aside from there, their food products can be counted as exports. The only problem faced by

Asians who are rich in natural resources is the population growth. Unfortunately, due to the expanding
number of people natural resources are also abused.
Natural disasters and climate change pose a significant threat to the infrastructure, economies, and progress
in Asia’s development. For over 20 years, The Asia Foundation has been helping communities to
strengthen their resilience to natural disasters and climate change. It cultivates leadership within local and
national governments, builds the capacity of vulnerable communities, and engages the private sector in
disaster risk management and environmental planning.
The Asia Foundation has long been working with countries of Asia to better understand and address energy
challenges and opportunities, while assisting countries to advance their transition to clean energy sources
and low-carbon development. These efforts either focus on promoting regional energy trade and
integration, expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy, improving energy efficiency for
representative business sectors, or managing the water-energy-food nexus. All targeted to help enhance the
region’s future economic growth, self-reliance, and environmental resilience.
Climate change in the Philippines is having serious impacts such as increased frequency and
severity of natural disasters, sea level rise, extreme rainfall, resource shortages, and
environmental degradation. All of these impacts together have greatly affected the
Philippines' agriculture, water, infrastructure, human health, and coastal ecosystems and they
are projected to continue having devastating damages to the economy and society of the
Philippines. Aside from geography, climate change impacts regions with a history of
colonization more intensely than regions without a history of colonization. Colonized regions
experience the repercussions of climate change most jarringly "because of their high
dependence on natural resources, their geographical and climatic conditions and their limited
capacity to effectively adapt to a changing climate." Since low-income countries have a
history of colonialism and resource exploitation, their environment lacks the diversity
necessary to prevail against natural disasters. A lack of biodiversity reduces the resilience of a
specific region- leaving them more susceptible to natural disasters and the effects of climate
change. With its history of Spanish colonization, the Philippines is not environmentally nor
economically equipped to overcome issues it is currently dealing with- such as natural
disasters and climate change. This inability to recover exacerbates the problem, creating a
cycle of environmental and economic devastation in the country.
