Case Analysis: The Kimpton Experience


Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants is a principally US-based hotel company and is a part of the Intercontinental
Hotel Group since 2014. They have a portfolio of 63 boutique hotels and 85 restaurants in 33 cities, with 31 in
the USA, one (1) in the Cayman Islands, and one (1) in Amsterdam. They pride themselves on delivering “The
Kimpton Experience – a different way to stay.”
As part of this experience, their website suggests:
Our “standard” perks are decidedly non-standard. We take your travels from standard to standout with
extras like:
• Fuel up – Jumpstart your morning with complimentary coffee and tea in our lobby.
• Wine hour – Unwind, sip, and savor select wines during our nightly hosted wine hour.
• Flex appeal – Take your yoga practice on the road; we’ll provide the mat.
• Ruff house – We welcome cats, dogs, and pets of all sizes – no extra charge.
• Fresh spin – The wheel deal: take a city spin on one of our complimentary public bikes.
• Beauty and the bed – Rooms at our top hotels boast luxe linens and pillows for the best rest ever.
• Business travelers – Ten percent off our best available rate every day, late check-out, access to
book groups and meetings online 24/7 through Kimpton Instant Meetings, Kimpton-style extras
to perk-up your stay, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout our hotels on all your devices during
your entire stay.
• Forgot it, we’ve got it – If you didn’t bring it with you, we’ve got your back. This includes re-sealable
plastic travel bags, fashion tape, fan, humidifier, straightening iron, curling iron, hair dryer,
steamer, feminine care products, heating pad, makeup mirror, sewing kit, extension cord,
computer/mobile chargers, collar stays, contact lens solution, spray wrinkle remover, stain
remover wipes, static guard, toothbrush, dental floss, mouthwash, tweezers, lint roller, nail
clippers, hair spray, nail file, deodorant, comb, night light, and super glue.
