Net Seminar 2

KRISTO DOT NET

A FIRST IN OUR LADY OF THE POOR PARISH

RATIONALE FOR THE ACTIVITIES

“The Kristo dot Net is intended as a formation tool for young people in their desire to journey
with other fellow youth toward God.

The activities are revised in such a way that it would elicit participation. The talks are meant to
give initial input to guide the participants to effectively participate. They are not meant to give
lectures. KRISTO DOT NET uses the inductive method or realization of insights through activities.

The success of KRISTO DOT NET depends a lot on the young people’s participation. It is also
depends on effective facilitation of the organizers who are also participant in a way. Thus, they
are co-discerners or people on a journey. They can join various groups and batches and still
realize a lot what it means to be a youth, a-youth-with-and-for others, and fellow-youth-with-
God.

I hope you find participating in KRISTO DOT NET very enlightening and inspiring. I too am
touched with the various and activities and sharing of young people.”

Kristo.Net Seminar 6

THE ACTIVITIES
I. YOUTH START COMING IN

Objective: To give them a warm welcome by their fellow youth who already took the seminar. The young
facilitators should clarify them that they are “co-journeyers” of the new participants. They do not lord it
over them. Then they give the instruction that the success of KRISTO DOT NET depends totally on the
participation of the youth. They are not passive but active audience.

II. PRACTICE FOR THE THEME SONG

Objective: To elicit the song that becomes their theme song. They are also prepare for the Morning
prayer.

III. MORNING PRAYER

Objective: To introduce the young people to an effective prayer that is for them. It’s the young people
praying together!

Physical Setup: inspiring altar, music and dimly lighted area.

Process:

1. Singing of the opening song/ songs.

2. Facilitation of the prayer leader using the ACTS prayer (Adoration, Contrition and Thanksgiving.
The Supplication comes after the reading of the Gospel for the day. )

3. Reading of the Gospel and short sharing Jn 1:35 – 42 invites us to “Come and See”. Why are we
here? What are we looking for? The apostles are confronted with the same question with Jesus
when they asked, “Where are you staying?“ there is something that they are looking for. Jesus
answered, “Come and see. “ Jesus is also inviting us to “Come and see.” Even though we still
don’t know what will happen to us this day, still we are hopeful that something good will come
out of this seminar.

4. Supplication the leader invites everyone to offer and express their expectations through prayer.
Here, we can get a clue on what they want to accomplish in this seminar.

5. Final prayer and song. It should be warm and inviting to the youth. There should be a sign of
peace to welcome all participants.

Kristo.Net Seminar 7

IV. ICE- BREAKER

Objective: This early, the participants should memorize each names and to remove all inhibitions and
shyness.

Process: Imitating actions with names until everyone repeats them.

V. INTRODUCTION: EXPECTATION - SETTING AND EXPLANATION OF PROCESS

Objective: To know the expectations and to lay the house rules.

Process:

1. Let them share in pairs their expectations. Then we list them on the board.
2. The facilitator summarizes expectations personal, interpersonal, and spiritual (self-others-God).
3. Using a projector, he then explains the role of the youth in the church, the parish vision and the
process. Only after this can they start reaching into themselves, reaching to others, and reaching
to God.

VI. SESSION 1: REACHING IN

Objective: Self-understanding
Rationale: We are fond of relating with our barkadas, but we try hard to be accepted by conforming to
their “unspoken laws” But can be at home with who we are?

When we share to our barkadas, “this is how I feel?” do you think they understand us or feel with us or
simply say. “Wag mong isipin yan, Tara nood tayo ng sine?” this activity will open us sharing in the level
of the heart and being at home with this sharing. This is who we really are.

Session 1 Activities:

A. Photo Language
B. Circle of Life
C. Family Healing Prayer

A.PHOTO LANGUAGE

Instruction:

1. Get a picture that describes what you are feeling now and who you are now, share in two’s or
three’s.
2. Report to the big group. We need to hear everyone.
3. Discuss: How do you feel when you’re sharing? How do you feel when others are sharing? When
do you feel you are interested in them and not interested in them? What have you learned
about yourself? What common things do you share as young people?

Kristo.Net Seminar 8

B. CIRCLE OF LIFE

Instruction:

1. Now ask them. “How did you get to be this way?” Instruct the participants to write at the back
of the paper 10 things about themselves, both positively and negatively they write. “Makulit,
mabait, matalino.”
2. On the front, they will write 10 people / events that molded them into who they are today,
positively and negatively. They shall put their names in the circles; the circle is for those who
have the most impact in their lives, and the farthest, the least. They will be surprised to know
where their parents are their list, whether the closest or the farthest to the center.

C. FAMILY HEALING PRAYER

Instruction:

With the background music, they shall end with a family healing prayer. The facilitator should focus on
two things: Thanking the Lord for the people who positively influenced them in their lives; and asking for
forgiveness for the ones who caused them pain. They end with a prayer and another song.

VII. SESSION 2: REACHING OUT

Input: THE LEVELS OF COMMUNICATION AND JOHARI’S WINDOW

A. LEVELS OF COMMUNICATION

We may be unaware, but there are varying levels of communication as we relate with people. These
levels are.

OLPP | Parish Youth Ministry | ©2013

Kristo.Net Seminar 9

1. HI HELLO- mababaw or shallow, we don’t have any intention to go further in this relationship;
or it may serve to open communication.
2. LEVEL OF FACTS- How’s the weather today? Kamusta ka? And sometimes, the person asking is
not really interested, but others might use this to invite the people to be at home with him/her.
3. LEVEL OF OPINIONS- What do you think about GMA? The fiscal crisis? May exam ba? Anong
course kinuha mo? Sometimes, people end up arguing at this level, but realize this is just the
level of the head. We haven’t touched based on the level of the heart.
4. LEVEL OF FEELINGS- This is the start of real sharing, when we can share to others what we feel
and not be condemned; when the others can feel with us and say. “Don’t worry, I’m here for
you.” We are how we feel, and there’s no right or wrong with that. Once we practice empathy
(the capacity to feel with others and not be judged), then that is the sign that we have grown in
the relationship.
5. GUT LEVEL- This is the highest form of communication, when no words are uttered, when
there’s no need to explain, but the simple presence is enough, then progressed in the
relationship

REFLECTION: Which level are you in? Which level is your barkada? How can you help your fellow youth
to reach the gut level? Elicit suggestion.

B. JOHARI’S WINDOW

Explain this drawing which is the symbol of understanding

oneself, others, and God there are four kinds of knowledge You
between self and others. + YOU
LEVEL 1: I know, you know, alam na natin ito, open book. I
LEVEL 2: I know, you don’t know; this contains the secret
of my life.
LEVEL 3: I don’t know, you know. Only through the level of
feedback can you see another part of you. Ex: The “B-O”
phenomenon or the “Bad Breath” syndrome. We also need
I
to learn from others, but we don’t have to accept
everything they say.
LEVEL 4: I don’t know, you don’t know, only God knows. He knows us through and through, and it is our
task to know him. Only in knowing him can we know who we really are.

OLPP | Parish Youth Ministry | ©2013

Kristo.Net Seminar 10

C. FEEDBACK GAME

1. Get a blank paper and with a tape, attach it at the back of the participants
2. Take time then to write on every person’s back. The question is in so far as you know him, how
would you describe him/her?
3. Another instruction. It also pays to write something that will inspire others, so write a positive
feedback.
4. Also, take time to write on people whom you are unfamiliar with. This opens relationship.
5. Take time to read in silence, if there’s background music, it’s ok.
6. Then with a solemn facilitation, let them read aloud the poem, “If I knew…” then ask them to
read what lines in the poem struck them. Let them read it again
7. Make a prayer that we may reach out to others with love.
8. End with final songs.

VIII. SESSION 3: COMMITING ONESELF TO….

Objective: To know what commitment means.

Activity:

1. Form into groups. Discuss the following scenarios:

a.) Sumali kayo sa isang Lotto as a team. Sabi niyo, pagsalu-saluhan natin kung manalo tayo.
Then you found out that you won, but there is an added strict instruction: you cannot divide
the prize, no ifs and buts. Now discuss how can you go about resolving this problem.
b.) The group finds themselves in an island that is crumbling down. There is only one boat and it
is reserved only for one person. Whom will you get into the boat?
2. Deepening: Discuss the dynamics, how did you come up with such a solution? Who participated
and not? What are the dynamics of a real commitment? These answers should come out:
a. Pagkakaisa at hindi pagkanya-kanya;
b. Commitment entails sacrifices;
c. Commitment entails love; etc.
3. Final Questions: KUNG BIBIGYAN KA NG ISANG LINGGO UPANG MABUHAY, SAAN AT PAANO MO
ITO GAGAMITIN? ANO ANG MGA BALAKID BAKIT HINDI MO MAGAWA ANG DAPAT MONG
GAWIN?

Write these two questions on the board and let them answer with this format:

Dear Jesus….. (Letter format, the staff will give them a sheet of paper)

A. BIBLIARAZAL

Objective: To orient the youth to pray together and to reveal themselves to one another as well as to
pray for one another. (There should be a team to demonstrate the activity).

OLPP | Parish Youth Ministry | ©2013

Kristo.Net Seminar 11

Process:

1. Instruct them that this is one of the most serious activities, they need to pray together, you are
about to talk to God. (Follow the instructions below)
2. There should be a prayer leader per group. They should start with an opening prayer.
3. They will proceed with the reading of the letter. It should start with, “Dear Jesus, I only have one
week to live, I wanted to do the following…” there should be an IT to start the ball rolling.
4. Then, starting with the group leader, he will give words of affirmation, to describe the IT until
everyone else has affirmed the IT.
5. It’s now time for the IT to speak “Salamat sa mga sinabi nyo...” “Sana ipagdasal ninyo ito...”
and reveals them the deepest hurt and problem.
6. Then the prayer leader touches the shoulder or head of the IT and says a prayer. Then the
second one will pray until everyone has said their prayers. Then, they embrace the IT. Then you
appoint the next IT who reads the circle and the letter begins exactly as the first.
7. End with a prayer and celebrate with an act of peace! Pray and remain silent while the others
finish their prayer.

B. FINAL ACTIVITY AND CLOSING PRAYER

Objective: To celebrate togetherness with God

Process:

1. Form one big circle.

2. Give the instructions about the crucifix and the flowers on the floor say, “The flowers, even
though left unspoken contain a lot of messages. This is gut level. This is the level where God is.
Let the flowers speak the things we cannot utter to one another. And we hope that after this
whole session, we may vow to understand one another, travel and be committed with one
another, and lead one another to God. These words are the following:
a. Salamat dahil naririto ka, I appreciate your presence today
b. Sa totoo lang, idol kita. Bilib ako sayo.
c. Patawad...
d. Sana lumakas ka sa gitna ng pagsubok. Wag kang mag-alala, narito ako.
e. Hindi kita iiwan.
f. Sana maglakbay tayo patungo sa Diyos.
g. Etc.
3. Culmination: now the flower is withered; that we have sacrificed ourselves. Love entails being
wounded. But we would rather love than risk not loving because God is love...
4. The facilitator ends with a common prayer.

Acts of peace to one another and singing of the theme song and a closing song ends the day.

ORGANIZING KRISTO.NET
Challenges
In order to make the seminar successful, it is important for the facilitators to be aware of the challenges
that they will face.

1. Many participants may go to the seminar because they were forced or pressured to. Some may think
that the seminars are dull, boring and a waste of time. This is why it is important to make a great first
impression. We might want to tell them that attending the seminar is somewhat a blessing, in which
many have been called, but only few of them were chosen—by God.

2. Never let the participants feel like getting bored. Every activity should be look sound, exciting and
interesting to sustain their attention.

3. Keep in mind that participants will be meeting new faces and it takes a while for them to warm up
and reach out with their co-journeyers. Therefore, having a warm accommodation and friendly approach
when they arrive at the venue will help them feel at ease and welcome.

4. Some participants may find a hard time taking involvement especially when it comes to sharing their
thoughts with the big group. However, it is our challenge as a facilitator to encourage them to speak,
whereas, most of the outputs of the activities should be coming from the participants.

Objectives
1. To help participants experience a journey with Jesus Crist.

2. Teach participants how to pray.

3. To make the Kristo.net seminar a fun, exciting, Christ-centered, and life-giving experience to the
participants.

4. To make the Kristo dot Net the start of a life-long process of renewal and transformation in the life
among the participants.

5. To give the participants the opportunity to make new friends in a fun and wholesome environment.

6. To encourage the young participants to find joy and fulfillment in serving the Lord and journeying with
the fellow youth.

Kristo.Net Seminar 14

7. Hopefully, the positive experience of the Kristo dot Net will remain a special memory that the
participants may look back to and draw strength from throughout their lives.

8. To bring the participants back to the Church and for them to recognize that one of the best ways to
grow even more in their relationship with the Lord is by serving in their respective parishes.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD FACILITATOR?

Facilitation Skills and Tips
One of the most important sets of skills for leaders and members are facilitation skills. These are the
"process" skills we use to guide and direct key parts of our organizing work with groups of people like
the Kristo dot Net seminar.

To facilitate is “to make easier” or “help bring about.” (Merriam Webster). Thus, facilitation in the
context of communities of practice is to help smoothly manage the flow and discussions. The facilitator
guides the dialogue and attempts to maximize member’s time and energy by keeping the event and
discussions on track – in terms of time and topic. Facilitation generally encourages all members to
participate in some way, shape or form. By recognizing and utilizing the unique and valuable
contributions of each member, an effective facilitator increases the collective value of the entire
community.

What Makes a Good Facilitator? Competent facilitators have both personal characteristics and acquired
skills that make them good at what they do. Many good facilitators make a difficult process seem very
natural and intuitive, even when lots of planning and training goes into the craft.

Good facilitators value people and their ideas - Good facilitators think quickly and logically - Good
facilitators are excellent communicators - Good facilitators are both product and process oriented.

Here are few Tips for being a good facilitator:

1. Don't memorize a script

Even with a well-prepared agenda and key points you must make, you need to be flexible and natural. If
people sense that you are reading memorized lines, they will feel like they are being talked down to, and
won't respond freely.

2. Watch the group's body language

Are people shifting in their seats? Are they bored? Tired? Looking confused? If folks seem restless or in a
haze, you may need to take a break, speed up, or slow down the pace of the meeting. And if you see
confused looks on too many faces, you may need to stop and check in with the group, to make sure that
everyone knows where you are in the agenda and that the group is with you.

OLPP | Parish Youth Ministry | ©2013

Kristo.Net Seminar 19

3. Always check back with the group

Be careful about deciding where the meeting should go. Check back after each major part of the process
to see if there are questions and that everyone understands and agrees with decisions that were made.

4. Summarize and pause

When you finish a point or a part of the meeting process, sum up what was done and decided, and
pause for questions and comments before moving on. Learn to "feel out" how long to pause -- too short,
and people don't really have time to ask questions; too long, and folks will start to get uncomfortable
from the silence.

5. Be aware of your own behavior

Take a break to calm down if you feel nervous or are losing control. Watch that you're not repeating
yourself, saying "ah" between each word, or speaking too fast. Watch your voice and physical manner.
(Are you standing too close to folks so they feel intimidated, making eye contact so people feel
engaged?) How you act makes an impact on how participants feel.

6. Occupy your hands

Hold onto a marker, chalk, or the back of a chair. Don't play with the change in your pocket!

7. Watch your speech

Be careful you are not offending or alienating anyone in the group. Use swear words at your own risk!

8. Use body language of our own

Using body language to control the dynamics in the room can be a great tool. Moving up close to a shy,
quiet participant and asking them to speak may make them feel more willing, because they can look at
you instead of the big group and feel less intimidated. Also, walking around engages people in the
process. Don't just stand in front of the room for the entire meeting.

9. Don't talk to the newsprint, blackboard or walls--they can't talk back!

Always wait until you have stopped writing and are facing the group to talk.

10. Pray before your discussion.

Remember to speak in behalf of God and not for yourself or for anybody. Humble yourself and allow the
participants to see God’s love working in you.

THEME SONG
I Will Be Here
Tomorrow morning if you wake up Bridge:
And the sun does not appear I will be true to the promise I have made
Ah ha-a-ah I, I will be here To you and to the one who gave you to me
If in the dark we lose sight of love Ooh ooh ooh
Hold my hand and have no fear Ah ha-a-ah I, I will be here
'Cause ah ha-a-ah I, I will be here

Chorus 1: Coda:
I will be here And just as sure as seasons are made for
When you feel like being quiet change
When you need to speak your mind Our lifetimes are made for years
I will listen 'Coz ah ha-a-ah I, & ha-I will be here
And I will be here We'll be together forever
When the laughter turns to crying 'Coz I will be here
Through the winning, losing and trying I will be here
We'll be together
'Cause I will be here

Tomorrow morning if you wake up

And the future is unclear
Ah ha-a-ah I, I'll be here
As sure as seasons are made for change
Our lifetimes are made for years
So ah ha-a-ah I, I will be here

Chorus 2:
I will be here
You can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we're older
I will hold you
And I will be here
To watch you grow in beauty
And tell you all the things you are to me
I will be here

THE POEM
If I knew…
If I knew it would be the last time There will always be another day
that I'd see you fall asleep, to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
I would tuck you in more tightly to say our "Anything I can do?"
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd like to say how much I love you
that I see you walk out the door, and I hope we never forget.
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
If I knew it would be the last time you get to hold your loved one tight.
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
I would video tape each action and word,
why not do it today?
So I could play them back day after day. For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
If I knew it would be the last time,
That you didn't take that extra time
I could spare an extra minute for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
to stop and say "I love you," And you were too busy to grant someone,
instead of assuming you would know I do. what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,

If I knew it would be the last time and whisper in their ear,
I would be there to share your day, Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
So I can let just this one slip away. Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Thank you,"
"Please forgive me," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
For surely there's always tomorrow
you'll have no regrets about today.
to make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
