IMPACT OF ONLINE CLASS ON STUDENTS LEARNING CAPABILITIES

WHAT IS ONLINE CLASS
DEFINITION OF ONLINE CLASS
- Program delivered to students online or in a virtual classroom. The
Internet is used by students to access the course objectives, lecture notes,
instructional resources, and assessments. Through chat rooms, threaded
discussions, and e-mail, students and teachers communicate online.

ORIGIN OF ONLINE CLASS

-Despite the hundreds of historical examples of the use of tools and
technology in education, e-learning in the modern sense is a relatively
recent idea. Since the 1950s, slide projectors and schools that use television
have been prevalent. Though the internet hadn't been created yet, at the
University of Illinois in the USA, students started learning through computer
terminals that were connected to establish a network in 1960, making it
one of the earliest examples of online learning in history.
The University of Toronto provided the first ever entirely online course in
1984. The Electronic University Network was created in 1986 for use with
Commodore 64 and DOS computers. - By: AMADAS UNIVERSITY BY SOUMIK SARKAR

HOW TO USE ONLINE CLASS

These strategies will be essential not only in the coming days but also in the
near future as online classes become the norm in higher education.
 Prepare for everything.
It should go without saying that appropriate preparation is the only way an
online course can assist students in reaching their goals. This requires not only
the gathering of all relevant materials but also the development of backup
plans in the event of unanticipated occurrences. To deliver learning
seamlessly, proper planning is essential.

 Interact with the students

Although teachers may choose to use videoconferencing platforms to build
relationships with their students, online sessions are frequently done without
any face-to-face interaction. It is the responsibility of the professors to
promote involvement among their students by keeping them interested in the
class roughly every four minutes or so.

 Be prepared to multitask
Teachers are expected to be familiar with the platform being utilized since they will
be the major facilitators of an online course. Monitoring the delivery of the content,
the delivery of the activities, and the responses of the participants entails doing this.
Teachers must exercise their multitasking skills to keep track of all of these activities,
which frequently overlap.

 Understand how to overcome challenges

The least number of unexpected events, such as abrupt disconnections or
background noise, should preferably occur. Teachers must be prepared to handle
issues if they arise inadvertently in order to keep the focus on the educational
process.
 Establish a platform for feedback
Online courses can only be successful if they are tailored to the individual learning
objectives of their students. Having said that, educators must encourage their pupils
to provide feedback using online forms or surveys. Utilize their suggestions to
enhance and customize the present online course.

HOW POPULAR IS ONLINE CLASS WORLD?

-Massive open online courses (MOOCs) reached 220 million students by the end
of 2021, up from 300,000 in 2011. Between 2012 and 2019, the number of
hybrid and distance-only students at traditional universities increased by 36
percent, while the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 rapidly
accelerated that growth by an additional 92 percent.

WHAT AN ONLINE CLASS POPULAR IN THE PHILIPPINES

- Philippines-based online education
Online classes are regarded as educational programs, courses, and subjects
offered online in the Philippines. The Department of Education (DepEd) has
pushed public and private schools to offer high-quality online learning through
a number of different modalities. -REEDLY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (2022)
8,557,205 people are enrolled in basic formal education across the Philippines,
in both public and private schools.
According to data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count,
Region IV-A (CALABARZON), with 1,430,535 students enrolled, is followed by
Region III (Central Luzon), with 829,624, and the National Capital Region (NCR),
with 815,857. – By: DepEd (2021)

ONLINE CLASS ISSUES

-Philippines' online classes have problems. There are technological, non-
technical, and financial difficulties with online education.
Students in the Philippines: 1. lack access to a dependable Internet connection;
and 2. mobile devices aren't available for online learning. Electronics and the
Internet are becoming necessities. Particularly in households where the major
breadwinners lost their employment or other sources of income as a result of
the ongoing pandemic, the rising monthly costs have become a strain.
Regarding homes, there is typically no area set aside for online education for
both students and professors. Time management became challenging for both
professors who run the family and students who assist with household tasks in
addition to this mobility issue. Social injustices and the overall lack of
resources did indeed constitute a serious challenge for many pupils and
instructors. (De Guzman 2021
Challenges of online learning
There are difficulties in establishing distance education, notably in the
Philippines. All parties involved—students, instructors, administrators, and
parents—can attest to this. Additionally, instructors worry that the prolonged
school closures will negatively damage pupils' ability to learn, which will
undoubtedly affect their future.
Their biggest issues, among others, are with the learning environment at
home, such as setting up a study area, maintaining a study plan, and avoiding
distractions. (De Guzman, 2021).
The Philippine educational system has been adaptable and strong enough to meet
the demands of the times. But the academic community as a whole has to deal with
and overcome systemic obstacles. DepEd and CHED play a crucial role in overcoming
these obstacles, particularly by encouraging students to keep learning despite
COVID-19. Effective learning at home depends on accessible, adaptable, and secure
learning settings. Several approaches are used, viewing the difficulties posed by the
epidemic as an opportunity to transform how organizations of all sizes view
education. This focuses more on how the government, which is of utmost
importance, implements long-term yet viable ways to increase learning opportunities
and minimize learning losses without in any way lowering educational standards.

IMPACT OF ONLINE CLASS ON STUDENTS LEARNING CAPABILITIES

The most crucial factor in a country's growth and expansion is education. Individuals'
brains and character are shaped by their education. Additionally, it gives everyone
the talent and inspiration they need. The traditional higher education system is
comparable to a physical retail business structure in that students receive a
systematic education from colleges and universities by physically attending needed
classes on a regular basis (full time or part time). The conventional educational
system, however, has a number of shortcomings, and numerous improvements are
anticipated in the next years. Online education is one of the potential developments
in the next generation of educational systems.
In this article, we've talked about how online education is the next generation of
education and how it affects society and scientific advancement in higher education.
There is discussion of the various online education models and their significance.
There is discussion of the advantages, benefits, limitations, and disadvantages of
online educational systems.

Journal of Engineering Research and Modern Education (IJERME), 1(1), 225-235.

This study seeks to determine whether communication between students and

teachers during online learning is negatively impacted, whether online learning has
an impact on students' levels of productivity, and to evaluate and recommend
improvements to effective online communication between instructors and students.

This study used a semi-structured online survey that was carried out using a random
sample method as a quantitative research study.

FINDINGS
Results showed that the vast majority of people agree with the study's questions.
Due to numerous issues that arise when taking online classes, including a lack of
motivation, a lack of comprehension of the material, a decline in communication
between the students and their instructors, and a sense of isolation brought on by
taking online classes, students continue to prefer classroom instruction over it.

Due to the fact that only students were used to choose the sample, this study
exclusively examined the influence from the viewpoint of students.
This study broadened the scope of the students' point of view, which will aid in
understanding the problems and generating workable answers. According to this
study, teachers and students should converse informally (through audio
conversations, private video calls, online chat groups, and online chats) as well as
formally (using email and online platforms). Finally, teachers should use a variety of
rewards to motivate students to participate and learn more.
