Micro Perspective in Tourism Industry

TOURISM RELATED ACTIVITIES


The Philippines are becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination and the country really has a
lot to offer for visitors with over 7000 islands. Also, the Philippines can not be compared to other
Asian countries because they have their very own charm.
GIVE ATLEAST 1 TOURIST DESTINATION OR ATTRACTION

1. Adventure Travel – is a type of niche tourism, involving exploration or travel with a certain
degree of risk (real or perceived), and which may require special skills and physical exertion.

WHITE RIVER RAFTING, CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

A very interactive, fun and adventurous activity in CDO’s Chico river trademark rapids, the
whitewater rafting with 6 persons per boat paddling along the stream is so worth the experience.

2. Accessible Tourism - refers to tourism that caters to the needs of a full range of consumers
including persons with disabilities, older persons and cross-generational families. 

TAAL VISTA HOTEL - VIEWDECK, TAGAYTAY

Hong Seo-yoon, founder of Accessible Korea, a non-profit group focused on improving access
and facilities for disabled visitors to her country. She has traveled the world in a wheelchair
including the Philippines as one of her favorite destination.
3. Culinary Tourism – defined as the pursuit of unique and memorable eating and drinking
experiences.

BANGUS FESTIVAL, DAGUPAN CITY

A row of Dagupan bangus being cooked over the grill lines the streets of Dagupan City during
the “Kalutan ed Dalan” or the Bangusan Street Party. The annual festival highlights the city’s bangus
aquaculture industry. 

4. Cultural Tourism – the act of traveling to a place to see that location’s culture, includes the
lifestyle of the people in that area, the history of those people, their art, architecture, religions
and other factors that shaped their way of life.

5. Disaster Tourism – the act of traveling to a disaster area as matter of curiosity. 

SIARGAO ISLAND, SURIGAO

Aside from Cloud 9, the once picturesque Coconut Road was also defaced by Odette.
Photographer Pepe Diokno was in Barangay Burgos when the storm took its course, and was able to
take shots of the road whose coconut trees are now bald and have fallen to the ground. 

6. Ecotourism – responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment, sustain the
well-being of the local people and involve interpretation and education.

OSLOB, CEBU
“As we recognize the importance of ecotourism, we should also recognize certain guidelines that
will help set limits as to how we deal with whales for example, like maintaining a certain distance
during whale watching, among others,”

7. Ethno Tourism – refers to visiting a foreign location for the sake of observing the indigenous
members of its society for the sake of non-scientific gain.

AETAS OF ZAMBALES

Also called Ita, the Aeta Filipino ethnicity is known to be one of the oldest ethnic in the Philippines.
Aetas live in the mountainous province of Zambales. Their way of living is simple and very
traditional especially when it comes to hunting for food. 

8. Extreme Tourism – involves travel to dangerous locations or participation in dangerous


events activities.

SKY DIVE, CEBU


Nothing beats the rush of throwing yourself out of a flying plane. Skydive Cebu Adventures is
the only USPA (United States Parachute Association) Member dropzone in the Philippines. They
have two locations at the moment–Skydive Greater Cebu located in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu
and Skydive Greater Siquijor in Siquijor, Siquijor.

9. Jungle Tourism – is a rising subcategory of adventure travel defined by active multifaceted


physical means of travel on the jungle regions of the earth.

ALAMADA, COTABATO

The lush landscapes of Alamada in Cotabato province.The country’s premier tropical escapes have
already been preparing for reopening!

10. Overland Travel – form of extended adventure holiday, embarking on a long journey, often
in a group.
SAGADA, MT. PROVINCE

#WhenInSagada.. Try going "topload", or riding at the top of a jeepney to have an unforgettable
and exciting adventure around Mountain Province. It is such a thrilling local ride through dangerous
roads along the edges of the mountains, but it is indeed so much fun to do.. with spectacular views of
nature, fantastic landscapes, cool breeze, fresh air, and among others.

11. Urban Exploration – examination of the normally unseen of off limits parts of urban areas
or industrial facilities.

MASINLOC POWER PLANT, ZAMBALES

The Masinloc coal-fired power plant is located about 250 kilometers (approximately 155 miles)
northwest of Metro Manila and covers about 137 hectares (approximately 338 acres), including 11
hectares of land reclaimed from the sea.

12. Spiritual Tourism – refers to activities done for spiritual pursuits like pilgrimage, taking part
in yoga and meditation etc. 
KAMAY NI HESUS, LUCBAN

The Kamay ni Hesus Shrine is a pilgrimage site featuring a 50-foot statue of the ascending Jesus
Christ. Constructed in 2012, this holy ground in Lucban, Quezon is known for its healing masses.

13. Boat Tour – a short trip in a small boat taken for tourist reasons, typically starting and ending
in the same place and normally of duration less than a day.

HUNDRED ISLANDS, ALAMINOS CITY

Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos. It's the  first national park and a protected area in
the province of Pangasinan. It features over 100 hundred islands and islets scattered in Lingayen
Gulf.

14. Duck Tour – primarily offered as tourist attractions in harbor, river and lake cities.
DUCK/SWAN BOATS, BAGUIO CITY

Burnham Park is centered around a man-made lake that is located at the heart of Baguio City,
Philippines. It is a 32 hectare urban Park that was named after the city’s planner – an American
Architect Daniel H. Burnham. The Park itself is a favorite place for the locals and tourists alike for
its different facilities for recreation and relaxation that are available within the park. You can row a
boat in the man-made lake, have a picnic on its grounds, attend an outdoor concert, watch a football
game, go biking, or just take a leisurely stroll around the park.

15. Heritage Trails – walking trails and driving routes in urban and rural setting that are
identified in most cases by signage and guidebooks as relating to cultural heritage.

RIZAL PARK AND SHRINE

Situated next to the walled city of Intramuros, historical Rizal Park is one of the largest urban
parks in Asia and covers 140 acres (58 hectares). With lawns, gardens, walkways, ponds, museums,
an observatory, a concert hall, and more, it’s one of the most popular attractions in Manila for locals
and visitors alike.

16. Long Distance Hiking – undertaken along long distance paths


MOUNT PULAG, BENGUET

Mt. Pulag is Luzon’s highest peak at 2,926 meters above sea level and popular because of its
picturesque trails and a stunning view of the sea of clouds. 

17. Museum Tour – collections of collections

NATIONAL MUSEUM, MANILA

Juan Luna’s Spoliarium, a certified crowd-drawer at the National of Museum of Fine Arts, has
not had visitors since quarantine was imposed in March.

18. Primary Forest Trekking - opportunities abound in the park and you could spend days
trekking, through the forest.
MT. APO, DAVAO

The rainforest of Mt. Apo offers climbers a rewarding experience. 

19. Cycling – offers the visitors not only silence and a cool breeze, but it is also a great way to
view the more secretive animals and birds of the national park.

DAHILAYAN ADVENTURE PARK, BUKIDNON

Dahilayan Adventure Park in Bukidnon offers Asia’s Longest Dual Zipline. Fly like Superman
from a launch point at 4,700 feet above sea level. With speeds of up to 90 kph, zoom through lush
greenery and breathtaking views only found in the mountains of Dahilayan.

20. Bird Watching – is a form of wildlife observation in which the observation of birds is a
recreational activity or citizen science.

WETLAND PARK, LAS PIÑAS


Celebrate Earth Day by bird watching! The Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park, a 175-hectare
protected area situated in the south of Manila Bay in the Philippines, is home to various species of
migratory birds. Earth Day, which falls on April 22 annually, aims to raise public awareness about
the environment and calls for people to protect the Earth.

21. Traditional Music Performance – most commonly viewed as an interpretative art, though
it is not always merely that.

CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) is the country's leading orchestra and is widely
regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region.

22. Wildlife Night Spotting – observation of animals in their native habitats as a recreational
activity.

PHILIPPINE TARSIER SANCTUARY, BOHOL


If you ever walk through the forests of Southeast Asia at night and feel like there are giant eyes
staring at you from the forest, there probably are. The tarsier is famous for its enormous eyes, which
can be larger than its entire brain. They have the largest eyes relative to body size of any mammal.
A tarsier uses its huge eyes to see insects, lizards, frogs, and other prey in the dark of the night. When
hunting, it uses its climbing skills to pounce after prey.

23. Kayaking – low to the water, canoe like boating in which the paddlers sits facing forward,
legs in front, using a double-bladed paddle to pull front to back on one side and then the other in
rotation.

EL NIDO, PALAWAN

Enjoy a day of kayaking in the calm waters and lagoons of Bacuit Bay in El Nido. You can
choose between itinerary Cliff’s wall and Lagoon kayaking.
