We think about the federal government as having all the power

and they're important in bringing about the systemic changes we need to tackle big problems
like climate change.
But some problems reqire direct action at the city level,
by officials who understand the needs of their community.
City governments can curbthe use of cars - a major source of CO2 emissions - by making it easy to travel by foot
bike, and public transit.
They can cut down on long commutes - and the associated emmisions -
by passing zoning laws allowing affordable hosing near where people work.
They can ensure that construction projects are built in a way that doesn't add to the city's carbon footprint.
And, finally, they can transition their electrical grids toward more renewable power.
All this to say that your vote matters, especially when it comes to local elections.
You can vote for local leaders that will meaningfully fight the climate crisis and, yes,
federal leaders that support investing in that work.
