THE HERO’S JOURNEY

The 12 steps

1. The ordinary world:

The hero/ heroine is an ordinary person who lives a mundane and uneventful existence.

2. The call to adventure:

One day, the hero receives a mission, an opportunity or a call for help.

3. The refusal of the call:

At first, the hero doubts his abilities, and refuses to relinquish / give up his peaceful life.

4. Meeting the mentor:

Usually older and wiser person gets the hero to accept the call and offers advice, or magical gifts.

5. Crossing the threshold:

The hero leaves on his adventure and enters an extraordinary world filled with dangers.

6. Test, Allies, Enemies:

On his way, the hero meets allies and builds himself a team to face ordeals and defeat enemies.

7. Approach to the supreme challenge:

At one point, the hero approaches his supreme ordeal for the final battle.

8. Supreme ordeal:
The hero/heroine ultimately defeats his/her greatest enemy.

9. The reward:
The hero is rewarded with fame, gifts or powers for restoring order and peace.

10. The road back:

The hero starts his journey back to his homeland.

11. Resurrection:
The hero seems to acquire a new life, his journey made him change his vision of life.

12. Return:
The hero is home again, only this time, he is a hero among his peers, so nothing is quite the
same again.
