Introduction
In this Introduction to Construction Industry Project, we are required to work in a group of 4 and
select a house and my team have to illustrate the type of door and window of the selected house.
our site is located at Taman siswa, somewhere nearby our campus.
Location background

Taman Siswa is a freehold landed housing estate located in Bandar Darulaman, Jitra. The built-
up available at this project is 1,100 sf. Other neighbouring projects nearby are Taman
Bahagia, Taman Darulaman Jaya, Taman Mahkota, Taman Mahsuri, Taman Siswa 2, Taman Sri
Aman, Taman Suasana Permai and Taman Tengku Maheran. coordinates of the Taman Siswa

Types of door : panel door (8 panel)
Panel doors are widely used in construction work. They are quite popular
for numerous reasons. Panel doors are hard and offer extra beauty to doors
of home.
Function of door
A door is the main component of the house. It is an openable barrier at
the entrance of the house, that allow people, vehicle and other goods to
enter and leave. The main function of door is to maintain privacy and
safety inside the house when it is closed.
Suitability of door
 Hard and strong suitable for exterior door
 Suitable for everyday use
 It also acts as noise barrier when there are chances of too much
noise outside of the house.
 It gives an aesthetic view to the house
Advantages and disadvantages panel door
Advantages

 Panel doors are hard and strong so they are used as exterior doors.
 They are more elegance and natural beauty.
 They can be made to any design as architect requirement.
 They can be made easily in any shape.
 They also hold up better in the everyday use.
 It is very difficult to accidentally punch a hole in a panel door.
 They also typically require less maintenance.
 They are weatherproof as compared to other doors.
 They can be finished with paint or polish as per requirement.

Disadvantages

 Required skillful cleaning as it collects dust quickly

Types of door : flush door
A Flush door is a type of door which has a completely smooth surface and is made by
sandwiching the plywood over a light timber frame. A flush door is one
of the commonly used in residential buildings that comes with an
attractive design and is rich in appearance.
Function of door
structures designed and constructed for indoor use. The primary
function provides access and egress to a room or other space inside of a
building. These doors are used in residential and commercial
applications to: Provide privacy.

Advantages and disadvantages flush door
Advantages
 flush door provides an attractive appearance.
 It is simple in design and hence less expensive and easy to
produce.
 This door has a pleasing appearance, simple construction, high strength and durability
and economical as compared to other types of doors, particularly panel doors.
 The flush door gives the excellent appearance if proper plywood, veneer or laminate for
facing is used.
 They are easily available.
 It has a good stability against twisting.
 Hollow core door is light in weight because the interior core of the door is hollow,
sometimes made of a honeycomb material. Therefore it is easy to handle and install.
 It’s also unaffected by humid environments and offers good cleanliness.
 It has resistant to stains, scratches and crashes.
 It is easy to clean.
Disadvantages
 Plywood covered flush door cannot be used where they will be exposed to rain and the
sun.
 They are difficult to repair one the top veneer or laminate or plywood starts delaminating
on account of effects of temperature, moisture, etc.

Types of door : PVC door
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride is an excellent material choice for doors in your bathroom. These
modern, man-made doors help minimize your work while maximizing your investment. PVC
doors look like painted wooden doors, but without the maintenance required for the absorbent,
natural fibers of the wood
Function of the door
Use in many different type of building such as residential , commercial , institutional and many
more.
Suitability for PVC door
 Suitable For Small Bathrooms
Advantages of PVC door
 PVC doors are considerably cheaper than their main competitors on the market –
aluminium and wood.
 A lot of homeowners tend to choose uPVC doors for their insulating properties
 PVC doors are not that easy to break.
 Pest-free Experience
 Having a PVC door is the little to no maintenance required.
 The reason why PVC doors are so easy to install is that they are lightweight and 100%
waterproof.

Disadvantage
 PVC doors are lightweight and relatively easy to install. But replacing old hardware is
just the opposite.
 When exposed to harsh sunlight for an extended period, the PVC door starts to fade and
become brittle.
 Despite the lightweight and sturdy character of PVC doors, they are somehow flimsy and
unreliable in terms of security

Type of window : Louvres windows
Louvre windows, also called jalousie (the French word for jealousy) windows, consist of an
arrangement of materials that include parallel and horizontal blades, slats, and slips of glass or
wood. These are structured to allow ventilation and sunlight in homes or workplaces. They are
typically used in windows to allow the flow of air and light, hence penetrating open spaces with
sunshine and keeping moisture out.
Function of the window :
 maximize natural ventilation by allowing airflow through the entire window area
 can set it into any angle that we want

Suitability of window
 Not suitable for northern climates because they lack insulation and do not completely
seal.
 Not suitable for the area that receive many rain
 Suitable for houses located in regions with warm summer and mild winters.

Advantages:
 Natural cooling solution
 Control heat and smoke
 Energy efficient ventilation system

Disadvantage:
 Easy for burglars to break into these windows without creating noise
 The old ones do not have an airtight seal, which makes them prone to leaking 
 Many jalousie windows do not have an airtight seal, so they easily allow air conditioning
to escape, which makes homeowners think of additional window insulation, especially
during the winter.
 Jalousie window glass slats can break over time, and their metal clips and crank handles
are prone to corrosion and rust in rainy and windy climates. Moreover, repairing each
part and cleaning the slats can be challenging and costly.

Type of window: Louvres windows

Function:
louver, also spelled Louvre, arrangement of parallel,
horizontal blades, slats, laths, slips of glass, wood, or
other material designed to regulate airflow or light
penetration. Louvers are often used in windows or
doors in order to allow air or light in while keeping
sunshine or moisture out.
Suitability of the window:
Great alternative to exhaust fans in bathrooms and
laundry rooms, as they allow steamy air to escape,
which reduces moisture build-up. Louvre windows can
also be used in various rooms across the home for
ventilation and cooling, minimising the need for fans
and air conditioning.

 Natural Light
 Easy Cleaning
Disadvantage:
 Not great in winter as they can allow cold air to travel through the room so for
bathrooms are not always ideal.
 KEEP IT TIGHT if you are worried about insects you want them to be tight as can be
but always the risk.
 Can allow noise to come through depending on how it is manufactured.
 As with any new things, the more moving parts, the more care is necessary.

CONCLUSION
Through this assignment, we managed to analyse and identify the types of doors and windows of
the house at the Taman siswa . Based on the house we noticed that the type of door that has been
installed is panel door, flush door, PVC door while for the window is louvres window where
both of them serve different purpose for the building . A door's essential and primary purpose is
to provide security by controlling access to the doorway (portal).  Window is basically an
opening on a wall that allow light to penetrate through, even air and sound can penetrate through
it.
