McDonald’s Bagan Ajam by Khor Hong Yu

It is an axiomatic fact that fast food fits into our modern lifestyle seamlessly as time is the
most valuable commodity for people from all walks of life nowadays. Last Saturday morning,
my parents and I had our breakfast at McDonald’s in Bagan Ajam for the first time. The location
of the restaurant is strategic as there are offices, housing estates and shopping malls in the
vicinity. Hence, it is always frequented by people who working or living near there. As we went
to the restaurant during breakfast time, the restaurant was bursting at the seams. It was jam-
packed with ravenous diners who could not wait to have their breakfasts. They were mostly
employees who were rushing to have their breakfast before they went to their offices. There were
also families like us who wanted to have delectable breakfast before starting our new day.

Like any other McDonald’s restaurant, the interior design of this restaurant is also simple,
modern and family-friendly with an indoor playground for children. We were told that we had to
use the self-service ordering kiosks to place our order. The moment my finger touched the
screen, I was amazed since I could see a wide variety of food, beverages, and desserts being
systematically categorized. By using the self-service ordering kiosk, we managed to order what
we wanted. Once the payment was made, we received a number. Like the rest of the diners, we
waited for our number to be flashed on the screen on the wall patiently. Once our number was
shown, we went straight to the counter to collect the items. Flashing their sparkling white teeth,
the staff were affable as they handed us the items we ordered on two trays competently.

My father, being a fan of spicy food, ordered Spicy Chicken McDeluxe while I chose
Scrambled Egg Sandwich. My mother opted for a low-calorie Bubur Ayam McD. Spicy Chicken
McDeluxe is an all-time favourite with its chicken thigh cooked to golden perfection. My father
savoured every mouthful of that delectable burger. The Scrambled Egg Sandwich tasted
heavenly as the egg was fluffy and the cheese melted in my mouth. It was indeed a
fulfilling/great way to kickstart my morning. Not to be forgotten was the Bubur Ayam McD,
which reminded me of my grandmother’s porridge. Garnished with spring onions, sliced ginger,
fried shallot and diced chilies, the porridge tantalised my taste buds. According to the menu
description, only premium Russet Burbank variety potatoes are used for their world-famous fries.
I was sincerely convinced by the description as the French fried tease the nose and their flavours
tantalise the taste buds. Then, three of us indulged in the decadent Oreo McFlurry, which tasted
like much creamier ice cream mixed with bits of Oreo biscuits.

The relaxed and incredible ambience makes the restaurant an ideal space to spend time with
family and friends. Without doubt, the place is extremely suitable for family bonding. That night,
we tried to abstain from checking our phones, instead, we focused on interacting with each other.
Occasionally, our conversation was interrupted by the raucous laughter of the boisterous children
who were having a whale of time in the indoor playground. However, we were not affected. As a
matter of fact, we found their laughter intriguing, the mood was indeed contagious. Soon, my
family and I were grinning.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to the people I know as it is an ideal venue for
family bonding as the restaurant not only offers mouth-watering food at reasonable prices but it
is also a place where people can have heart-to-heart talk with their loved ones. The hospitality of
the staff is also commendable. Although the table that we sat at was oily, I hope that the
restaurant would pay more attention to the cleanliness of the restaurant in the future.
