Research Design

This qualitative research allows researchers to develop a theory that explains a specific
phenomenon, hence this study is grounded in phenomenology, which focuses on the phenomena
and focuses on subjective experiences and understanding the structure of those lived experiences
(Armstrong, 2010). Phenomenology is utilized to thoroughly describe the traits that define the
occurrences that have taken place (Hopkins, 2005). The primary data collection method is through in-
depth interviews. This research design was chosen because the study detailed and concentrated
on the phenomena of the difficulties encountered by English teachers when teaching junior high
school students, as well as the solutions to these difficulties. (Amalia, et al 2021).

Research Locale and Participants

As part of this study, the participants are selected by the researchers which are five junior high
school English teachers, one in each five different schools in Mati City. They are ESL teachers
teaching in seventh to tenth grade. They are selected to participate in this study due to their
experiences in teaching English. The respondents will be interviewed in their respective schools,
this location of implementation was selected by the researchers since it will provide the
researchers with their required information. The study will be conducted in the five selected
schools which are Mati National Comprehensive High School, Matiao National High School,
Bobon National High School, Davao Oriental Regional Science High School and City of Mati
National High School.

Sampling method

In this study, convenience sampling is applied since it is a non-probability sampling technique

where units chosen for the sample are those that are most convenient for the researcher to access
(Nikolopoulou, 2022). Since the selected respondents are available and are willing to participate
in this study. Hence, the source and the data will be accessible and convenient to the researchers.
This is a result of close proximity, availability at a specific moment, and willingness to take part
in the study. (Nikolopoulou, 2022)
