• The interior of the Earth is full of heat where the temperature deep down below is getting hotter the deeper you go.
It is referred as Geothermal Energy.
• The Greek word ‘geo” means Earth, and “thermal” means heat, so geothermal energy is energy form the Earth’s
heat.
• According to the Department of Energy, one-fourth or 14.4% of the electricity in the Philippines is
geothermalgenerated.
• The Philippines is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of volcanoes and volcanic activities, energy has been
collected from them making our country ranked second in the worlds production of geothermal energy
• Power plants are built in the area where it particularly hot just below the surface such as near a group of geysers,
hot springs, or volcanic activity.

Types of Geothermal Energy:

• RENEWABLE RESOURCES - Renewable resources, on the other hand, replenish themselves. The five
major renewable energy resources are solar, wind, water or hydro, biomass (organic
material from plants), and geothermal (natural occurring from the earth).
• NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES - are available in limited supplies, usually because they take a long time to
replenish. The following nonrenewable resources are coal, nuclear, oil, and natural gas.

Geothermal Power Plants location:

1. Tiwi (Albay) 4. Tongonan (Leyte) 7. Bacon (Sorsogon)

2. Kidapawan (North Cotabato) 5. Bago City (Negros Occidental)
