    The Great Train Robbery of 1963 saw over two million pounds stolen from a night mail train near London. A gang of professional criminals had received a tip-off about large sums of money being transported on the train. They stopped the train using a false signal and unloaded money bags into trucks, driving to a remote farmhouse they had purchased. While most of the gang was caught by Christmas and sentenced to over 300 years in prison, very little of the stolen money was ever recovered.
