    On November 6, 1983, six gunmen robbed a high-security warehouse near London airport in Britain's biggest ever armed robbery. Upon entering the building with an inside accomplice, they found £26 million worth of gold bars instead of the £3 million in cash they were expecting. They crammed the 3 tons of gold into an elderly van and drove away. Much of the gold was melted down and turned into jewelry, but a third of the haul, worth £10m, was never found.
