A Rose for Emily

Read the short story, and do the comprehension and analysis at the end of the

document.

William Faulkner demonstrates in this story that he was kind of crazy, he wrote

about a prepared dead with all the elements settle down. Faulkner had this vision of

what he wanted to do with his character how to development. Another thing is the point

of view in which he wrote the story, he uses “we” as if they were the expectorators of

someone else life.

I think is insane to write some novel about a murder or a suicide because it is

like you must imagine all the scenario including the feelings and injures that the

character may have.

The writer is telling the story basing on his environment, this means that he was

living when black people were used as slaves and treated like garbage. Also, he isn’t

narrating the story in chronological order, he starts from the death of Emily and then

continues with her life and how her situation impulse her to killed herself, that is what

makes Faulkner’s writing complex.

As we are talking about a modernist author, he left behind old English and starts

by using the vocabulary that it is used until nowadays. It is important to know that the

writing have several words that are not used on daily life, but it is easy to understand the

meaning by context clues.
