Mike: Magandang buhay …. Welcome to Media and Information

Literacy (MIL) and Contemporary Arts, TODAY is April 11, 2022. And we
are now in week 1 for the 2nd quarter of second semester of school year
2021-2022.
And our topic for today sa atoang subject nga MIL is about… how to cite
an example of an issue showing the power of media and information to
affect change.

With that, STAY Tune learners! Because we are going to discuss our topic
for today from our subject MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY, after a
short break. This is astral academy cyberschool.
-------------------------------- Break-----------------------------
THEORY

MIKE: and we’re back live gihapon ta diri sa DepEd Tayo Tangub and
Astral Academy Cyberschool. Welcome to the world of media and
information. let’s think wisely, create smartly and share information
responsibly.

RR:
And now mga sir let us Talk about our first topic for today which is from
the subject MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY (MIL), and our most
essential learning competency for this session is:

Cite an example of an issue showing the power of media and

information to affect change.

ROLDAN: Yes, that’s right sir We have four objectives for this session. At
the end of our session you will be able to;
1. Explain the opportunities provided by the internet to empower
people;
2. Discuss the effects of the internet as popularizing agent;
3. Cite personal experiences on the effects of the power of media and
information
4. Promote a local tourist destination, hobby or business through
social media

Mike: Yes, that’s right sir, First let’s begin our discussion with quotation
“Content is fire. Social media is gasoline.” –Jay Baer
If we are going to go
with the context of social media. When we say content we are referring
to the information that we upload or share on the internet or social
media platforms. And kailan lumalala yong tinatawag natin na fire. So
ano yong nirerepresent nung gasoline? So yong nirerepresent ng gasoline

RR: Tama sir Mike, So dapat na lagi nating tandaan na once we upload
something or anything on the internet it cannot be easily erased. And
that’s what we called the digital footprints. We have to be careful at all
times.
internet it’s 24/7 so we have to always think before we click.
MIKE: Yes, sir, What are these special powers that we get through
media? Okay so meron tayong special power na nakukuha with the use
of social media. We have this so called influencer of social media
Maaring

ROLDAN
That’s right sir, Our topic today is all about citizen journalism, the online
selling phenomenon, and tourism.
So let us start with citizen journalism. So ano ng aba itong tinatawag
balita, or listen to the radio para lang ma update tayo sa bawat araw.

RR:
Yes, sir, But today with the availability of the internet mas nauuna pa
tayo sa mga balita. And that is what citizen journalism is all about. Kasi
everyone can be a journalist, a citizen journalist.

journalist? All you have to do is to have a camera or cellphone or gadget
that has the capability to take pictures and videos. Citizen journalism is
the gathering and reporting of news by people who are not trained as
professional journalists (Hermans, Vergeer and D’Haenesn, 2009.). So
there’s no need to have a diploma to become a citizen journalist. But
that’s not considered a course. Other term for citizen journalist is watch
dog journalism.

ROLDAN:
That’s correct sir, In which anyone of us as long as we are in a democratic
society or democratic country we all know that here in the Philippines we
are practicing democracy, so we have the right to become a citizen
journalist.
silang special segment in which they give part to the citizen to share
news. Examples of that are u scooper of the day, bayan mo ipatrol mo
and the like.

MIKE:
That’s correct sir Now let’s proceed with online selling. Let’s define first
what is online selling. Online selling is the act or process of selling goods,
products or services via the internet. And I know what we are very
familiar with this one.
cash on delivery (COD). I’m sure familiar kaayo mo ani nila kasi sobrang

selling is yong tinatawag nating feedback. So yon yong unang una na
tinitingnan yong feedback section. Like anong shop ba ang merong 1
star, 2 star, 3, 4, or 5 star.

products. And we have to always read comments of the people who
have experiences in buying products in that particular shop. We have to
make sure that they were able to deliver what they promised to their
clients.
RR:
That’s right sir, Now let’s proceed with tourism.
ibat ibang tourist destination not only in the Philippines but worldwide.
maisama sa bucket list natin during vacation.
ROLDAN: That’s right sir dahil nga ang social media platform sa internet
And once you
bumibisita, maganda yata dito so dito tayo. Kadaghanan man gud karon
social media accounts or platforms.

MIKE: That’s correct sir, For example si apo whang-od di ba. Tungod
And
Hashtag beach dolomite beach in the city. Dati punong puno yon nang
basura pero ngayo with the improvements done by our government
Manila area.

RR:
So those are the three topics for today. The power of media and
information. first, is the citizen journalism, second is the online selling
phenomenon, and third is tourism.

ROLDAN:
Yes, tama ka diyan sir, Now it’s time for our wrap up. Given are short
narratives of online content created by Youtube vloggers. Based on
these narratives, identify whether the vlogger is a: A. watchdog B.
tourism promoter C. commerce influencer

Okay that’s for our wrap up.

MIKE: Before we end our discussion in MIL. Let me first give you some
food for thoughts by DaveWillis.org “Don’t use social media to impress
people; use it to impact people.” Let’s not add to the negativity of this
world. Let us always be positive and used social media to inspire people.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS SCRIPT QUARTER 4 (WEEK 1)

Roldan: And we are back learners…Now our next subject sir R and sir
Mike is CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE ARTS FROM THE REGIONS and in
the previous lesson, we discussed the significance of arts, that it has
always been around in one form or another, helping mankind in the
development of diverse activities and their outcomes.
RR: Yes sir Roldan, because art is as vast as an ocean, embodying a wide
range of activities, such as sculpting, painting, photography and
architecture, etc. If we take a look at our past, we can see that the
earliest form of art that mankind learnt was painting, presented on
ancient walls.

Mike: That’s right sir R, and with the advancement of time, newer forms
of art arose, such as music, theatre and photography, etc., which are
nowadays considered the most beautiful types of performing arts.

RR: I agree with you to that sir Mike, and in fact, Art is a way of
expression, a way of joy, a way of making people understand things
which can’t be done verbally. In fact, we can say that everything that is
beautiful is art.

Roldan: Exactly sir R, and our topic for this afternoon will focus on how to
promote arts from the different Regions in our country. Now, I have a
questions to both of you sir R and Sir Mike. Why do we need to promote
arts?

Mike: To me sir personally, I need to promote arts because it promotes

`true prosperity. And as to our students, Learning through and about the
arts enriches the experience of studying while at school as well as
preparing students for life after school. Arts subjects encourage self-
expression and creativity and can build confidence as well as a sense of
individual identity.

RR: I agree sir Mike, and for me also, we need to promote the arts
because it is the fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire
us—fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty. The arts help us express
our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together
regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age. In addition, it is an essential part
of our culture because it allows us to have a deeper understanding of our
emotions; it increases our self-awareness, and also allows us to be open
to new ideas and experiences.

Roldan: Very well said sir R and Sir Mike, indeed we need to promote arts
especially to our learners that will make them encourage self-expression
and creativity and can build confidence as well as a sense of individual
identity. And now our Learning Competency for this afternoon from the
MELCS is…PROMOTES ARTS FROM THE REGIONS, and when we say
Promotions, it refers to the entire set of activities, which communicate
the product, brand or service to the user. The idea is to make people
aware, attract and encourage to buy the product, in preference over
others.

RR: Yes sir Roldan, there are several types of promotions. Above the line
promotions include advertising, press releases, consumer promotions
(schemes, discounts, contests), while below the line include trade
discounts, freebies, incentive trips, awards and so on. Sales promotion is
a part of the overall promotion effort.

Mike: That’s right sir, There is also known as the…

1. Personal selling: one of the most effective ways of customer
relationship. Such selling works best when a good working relationship
has been built up over a period of time. This can also be expensive and
time consuming, but is best for high value or premium products.

Roldan: That’s Correct sir Mike, next is… 2. Sales promotions: this
includes freebies, contests, discounts, free services, passes, tickets and
so on, as distinct from advertising, publicity and public relations.

RR: Sunod nga promotion is the… 3. Public relations: PR is the deliberate,

planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual
understanding between the company and the public.
Roldan: Yes sir R, and there are four basic types of promotion: 1.)
Advertising 2.) Sales Promotion 3.) Personal Selling 4.) Publicity

Mike: Yes sir, among the basic types of promotion is Advertising, Now it
is any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas,
goods, or services by an identified sponsor. Its three distinguishing
features are that the time or space devoted to it is paid for it uses a set
format to carry the message rather than personal one-on-one selling it
identifies the sponsor of the message.

RR: That’s right sir Mike, another basic type is Sales Promotions, it can be
either consumer or trade oriented. Types of Trade Promotions: Slotting
Allowances: A cash premium paid by the manufacturer to the retailer for
the costs involved in placing a new product on its shelves. The allowance
covers the space, retailer’s cents-off specials, charges for store shelves,
penalties if the product does not sell, and store advertising and display
costs.

Roldan: That’s correct sir R, another type is…Personal Selling - Is the most
flexible and individualized of the promotion devices available to business.

Mike: Okay sir, and the last type is…Publicity - involves placing
newsworthy information about a company, product, or person in the
media. *The principal function of publicity is to build an image.

RR: You know sir Roldan and Sir Mike, there are some ways to market
and promote your art online. During this challenging marketplace a lot of
artists are cutting back on their art marketing budgets. Even so, now is
the time to take full advantage of the free marketing opportunities and
creative ways of promoting your art business online.
Mike: That’s true sir, by creative, I mean free! Yes, there are many ways
in which you can promote yourself and your art business for free and
nowadays, as an artist, it’s more important than ever to leverage your
expertise.

Roldan: Although the following methods are free sir Mike, they will cost
you a bit of time. However, if these approaches are taken seriously, they
can be fun and exciting and will pay off in the end. So, these are the
following methods…number one is…
1. Start a Blog:
There are many benefits to you as an artist to start a blog. It’s a great
way to promote your personal brand, to sell your art and to offer
customer service. There is no better place to connect with a potential
customer than on your blog. Many of our learners might already have a
website with information about art, pricing information, contact
information and maybe a cool video or two. But most likely, no one is
visiting their website simply because they don’t know it exists! The
easiest way for people to discover your website is to start a blog.
Write about things artists care about or what someone in need of an
artist would search for in Google. The key is to make your blog about
them, not you.
If you need help getting started with creating a blog, read these
informative articles on FineArtTips.com, 5 Simple Steps to Start Your First
Blog and 8 Tips to Create a Great Blog Post.
RR: Indeed sir Roldan, that’s very informative to start a blog next method
is…2. Join a Social Media Network:
Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are the fastest ways to build
brand recognition for you and your art business. A strong brand is
invaluable and serves to communicate credibility to your prospective
customers, peers and business associates.
Let me assure you, social media is not a fad. It’s a fundamental shift in
the way we communicate. Social media is changing the rules of the
marketplace.
Being an artist is a solitary occupation, but with social networking, you
are not alone! Get instant feedback on your latest painting, drive
thousands of visitors to your blog, ask for a critique on your art, gain
inspiration, or try selling a painting off of Facebook. The opportunities
are virtually endless.

Mike: Next method sir R is…3. Create Your Own Videos:

Did you know YouTube ranks #2 for search engines Neright after Google?
Videos are another great way of sharing online content. You don’t have
to be the next James Cameron to create an entertaining video that
generates many views and increases traffic to your blog or website.
Videos are also a nice break from the usual blog post. It’s easy to upload
your video to YouTube and then embed it on your website. Your site will
benefit from all the traffic YouTube already gets.

Roldan: Yes sir Mike next method is…4. Guest Post on Other Blogs:
Guest posting for other blogs is not only a great way to get more traffic
to your own website, but it also another way to introduce your artwork
to new readers. Find other artists with blogs, and ask if you can write a
guest post for them. Offer to share an inspiring story, a how-to
demonstration or a helpful art tip.
Your guest post will include a brief description of who you are and a link
back to your website or blog. Most blog owners are happy to take guest
posts because it increases the value of their blog. And by doing so, you’ll
drive traffic back to your site where it can eventually lead to sales. This
also adds to your credibility as an artist and an expert in your field. To get
started, you can submit a guest article to my blog, FineArtTips.com.

RR: Sunod nga method is to…5. Join and Participate on Online Forums:
Join your favorite art-related forums and become an active member of
their online community. There are tons of forums and Q&A sites. You just
have to find the ones that line up with your expertise. This is another
great way to prove yourself as an expert, and once again drive traffic
back to your website. People are always looking for answers online, why
not let it be you they trust?

Mike: Yes sir next is…6. Publish Free eBooks:

Why not use your knowledge to publish free eBooks on topics of interest
to artists and aspiring artists? This is another great marketing
opportunity. By making your eBooks available for free, you exponentially
increase the number of people that will read them…free eBooks spread
like wildfire online.
Keep in mind; your goal here is to build awareness of your art and your
art business, not to make a few bucks. Make sure to include your
business logo and information in the eBook to remind people where it
came from.

Roldan: Second to the last method is…7. Submit Your Blog Posts to
Article Directories: Article directories are websites that allow people to
submit their articles based on a specific niche for free. Just like the other
methods explained above, submitting your post to article directories
increases your credibility as an expert in the art community, and in turn
will drive customers back to your website. Squidoo, eHow and Ezine
Articles are some of the largest, and most respected online article
directories.

RR: The last method is…8. Make Comments on Other Art Blogs:
Commenting on other blogs within your own art niche or even blogs you
enjoy is another great way to build a network. Again, this will lead to
more traffic on your own blog. When you make a comment on another
blog, most likely you will get a reply and eventually these grateful
bloggers will visit your site and comment.
Follow the top blogs and just make sure to leave an interesting comment
that is worth reading and debating. Most often, you can add links to your
own site within the comment. One idea is to link back to a relevant post
on your blog. This will help capture the attention of other readers as well.
Roldan: Okay sir R and sir Mike, those are the different ways and
methods to promote arts in online platforms, and now, let’s proceed to
our Learning Activity for this afternoon. In this activity our learners will
make video presentation about arts that found in their locality or regions
that they like or it also be your arts if you have and in order to promote
it, use the technology that we have, you will post it in facebook, twitter
or instagram. (Your video must be 2mins. long and send it to the
messenger of your teacher before posting it to social media accounts
that you like).

Mike:
So that ends our discussion for this afternoon learners… MORE
DISCUSSIONS AFTER OUR SHORT BREAK… THIS IS ASTRAL ACADEMY
CYBER SCHOOL.
