GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT (GAD)

NARRATIVE REPORT

Relative to the deped memorandum on conducting gender and development

seminars, which schedules all public elementary and high schools to conduct various

activities related to gender and development specifically on Mental Health Awareness, the

Bentuco Elementary School, Gubat III District held a seminar concerning this on December

6-7, 2022 at Nature’s Spring, Irosin Sorsogon. The arrival of participants started at 8:00 a.m.

for registration. A roll call from the delegations of each school was done by Anthony Ofalsa

based on the registration. It was followed by the welcome remarks of the District GAD

Coordinator.

Shortly after that, the first speaker was introduced, our very own public schools

district supervisor Noel L. Agnote discussed promoting Well-Being at Work which was the

half of the morning session. He started an activity that was the sharing of experiences of

participants related to their work. Concerning well-being, he explained the importance of

creating activities and program in the workplace that promotes physical, emotional, social,

and stress management.

The second half of the morning session started at 1:00 pm with Sir Abner Dellosa of

Sorsogon State University. He presented and discussed the topic of Mental Health

Awareness. He stated an activity that scores the level of burnout at work. All the

participants answered the given questions and then the interpretation of the scores was

presented. Surprisingly, some showed a quite high level of stress and burnout. The speaker

advised the teachers to take some vacations if burned out. After citing some symptoms of

depression, one of his better advice is not to bring work at home to give justice to their
families. After that he discussed some factors that contribute to the distress of the teachers

and they are the following:

1. Excessive workloads

2. Negative inter-personnel relationships

3. Low working hours

4. Job security issues

In a conclusion, I firmly believed that there should be a balance between personal

life and work. That we should be more focused on our present and not mind the past and

the future. Stressors are always there but there are many ways to deal with them.

Indeed, the seminar was a success because it helps the teachers in enjoying life while

working.
