Activity 4.
If you were a write during the Spanish Period, what would be your message to the Filipinos? Express
this by writing a 3-paragraph essay.

Spanish colonial motives were not, however, strictly commercial. The Spanish at first viewed the
Philippines as a stepping-stone to the riches of the East Indies (Spice Islands), but, even after the
Portuguese and Dutch had foreclosed that possibility, the Spanish still maintained their presence in
the archipelago.
I would say, the life of the Filipino during Spanish period is hard. they treat Filipino as a slaves/
Spanish soldiers are raping kids and teenage girls, the government of the Philippines are subservient
to high-ranking Spanish people.
They invaded the land of the native Americans, treating them in an unfriendly and violent manner
when they arrived. The effects of colonization on the native populations in the New World were
mistreatment of the natives, harsh labour for them, and new ideas about religion for the Spaniards.
