(I) INDUSTRY PROFILE
1.INTRODUCTION
India textiles sector is one of the oldest industries in the Indian
economy, dating back to several centuries.
The industry is extremely varied, with hand-spun and hand-
woven textiles sectors at one end of the spectrum, while the
capital-intensive sophisticated mills sectors on the other end.
2.MARKET SIZE
India textiles industry has around 4.5 cr employed workers
including 35.22 L handloom workers across the country.
The Indian textiles market is expected to be worth > US$ 209
billion by 2029.
Cotton production is expected to reach 37.10 million bales and
consumption is expected to reach 114 million bales in FY21-13%
growth over the previous year.
The production of raw cotton in India is estimated to have
reached 35.4 million bales in FY20.
India home textile exports grew at a healthy rate of 9% in FY21
despite the pandemic.
3.INVESTMENT
The textiles sector has witnessed a spurt in investment during the
last five years.
In May 2021, indo count industries ltd announced an investment
of 200cr to expand its production capacity.
The PLI scheme for manmade fibre and technical textiles will
help boost manufacturing, increase exports and attract
investments into the sector.
Companies in home textile are using technology to optimize the
value chain.
Home textile companies in India are also leveraging strategic
partnerships to strengthen their business operations and foothold
in the country.
In oct 2021, Welspun India collaborated with DuPont
biomaterials to introduce a home textile range and strengthen the
company’s sustainable textile business.
4.GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES
Indian government has come up with several export promotion
policies for the textiles sector.
The scheme proposes to incentivize mmf apparel, mmf fabrics
and 10 segments of technical textile products.
Other initiatives taken by govt of India are:
The Indian government has notified uniform goods and services
tax at 12% on MMF yarns, MMF fabrics and apparel, which will
come into effect from Jan 1, 2022.
The mega cluster will be set up at an estimated cost of 30 cr
under the (NHDP)
Through this, the government aims to make India a global player
in textiles machinery.
Through this scheme, the government aims to support domestic
SMEs and local artisans
Techtextil India, a trade fair focused on technical textiles,
nonwovens and composites will be held from 25th to 27th
November 2021 in Mumbai.
She also stated that the PLI scheme for the textile industry is
almost ready.
Gorakhpur is on track to become a major garment manufacturing
centre, boosting the economy in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
In 2020-21, the uk is India 14th largest trading partner, accounting
for US$ 8.7 billion in exports and US$ 6.7 billion in imports.
In march 2021, toys were identified as one of the 24 primary
sectors listed under the self-reliant India initiative.
This India -Japan pact on cooperation in textiles will facilitate
Indian exporters to meet the requirements of Japanese importers
as per the latter technical regulations.
In 2020, new textiles policy 2020 is expected to be released by
the ministry of textiles
5.ACHIEVEMENTS:
In June 2021, KVIC recorded a 77.1% growth in gross annual
turnover to 95741.74 crore from 88887 crore
Under the scheme for integrated textile parks were sanctioned,
out of which, 22 have been completed.
Employment increased to 45 million in FY19 from 8.03 in FY15.
Exports of readymade garments was worth US$ 1.19 billion as of
December 2020

Kasim textile mills private limited, forayed into the textile
business in 1991 by starting a small unit at puliyankulam in
Madurai, Tamil Nādu.
The company has achieved its organic growth by delving itself

No of machines in company are 124 looms (sizing and warping
machine1).
