Title: Food for thought: how nutrition impacts cognition and emotion

Year: 2017
Author: Spencer S.
Type of Reference: Journal (Foreign)
This study has highlighted the latest advances in how foods and patterns of consumption at
different times of development affect the brain, and the behavioral manifestations that may
result from these effects. Consumption of fruits and vegetables high in polyphenolics can
prevent and reverse age-related cognitive deficits by lowering oxidative stress and inflammation.
This study’s findings and data show that attention to dietary composition is important for lasting
impact beyond the metabolic and highlight the promising likelihood that we may improve our
cognition throughout life and into the aging period with simple dietary interventions.

Title: Dietary Factors and Cognitive Function in Poor Urban Settings

Year: 2018
Author: Wrights R.
Types of Reference: Published Research (Foreign)
The study shows that recent studies that they conducted in poor urban environments showed
that a healthful diet may be most beneficial to cognitive function among those with lower SES,
and that depressive symptoms may partly explain the influence of diet on cognitive function. The
review revealed a severe shortage of studies that focused on diet and cognitive function in poor,
urban environments and therefore focused on the important task of highlighting potential areas
for future study. These included identification of several potential socioeconomic, environmental,
and psychological moderators and mediators of this association. Based on their review, there
are several apparent opportunities for intervention, policy change, and future research.
