Detailed Lesson Plan in Math V

Prepared by: Riza M. Dizon

I. Objectives:
At the end of the 45 minutes lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different types of geometric figures.
b. Draw the polygon according to its sides.
c. Differentiate regular and irregular polygons.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Describing and comparing properties of polygons
References: K to 12, Grade 5 Curriculum Guide, p. 61

Materials: cut-outs, projector, laptop

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
Teacher’s Activity Students Activity
1. Prayer

Class, let us all stand for our prayer. In the name of the father, and of the son,
and of the holy spirit...
Amen…

2. Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!

Good morning classmates!

Ok you may seat down. Thank you, ma’am.

3. Attendance

Class Secretary tell the class who are ( Secretary reports )

absent today

4. Review

Class, can you still remember our lesson Yes teacher.

yesterday?

Who can discuss it to the class? ( Pupils are raising their hands)
Yes, THaniel. Thaniel: Our lesson yesterday is all
about solving word problem

Yes, very good!

Is there any clarification about solving No, ma’am.

word problem?

5. Motivation

Class, look around our room

Can you give some example of an object The teacher’s table and the chalk board
that has the same shape and size? are the same in shape but the same in
size.

Okay, can you give another example?

The door and the glass window are the
same shape but not in size.

Okay, very good class!

B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity

Now class, let us have an activity.

I will group you into four.
I will flash to you some shapes with a
different number of sides.
You need to guess the name the shapes
according to its number of sides. Write
your answer on board and raise it. The Cut-outs Name of Polygon
first group who raise their answer first will
be having a points. Pentagon

2. Analysis

Okay class, I have here pictures of

polygon. Polygon A and polygon B.

A B

Polygon A has 5 sides.

How many sides are there in polygon A? Pentagon ma’am.

What do you call to a polygon with 5

sides?

Polygon B has 5 sides.

Now, how many sides are there in

polygon B?

The two polygons are having the same of

sides but they are different from each
If these two polygons are having the other because polygon A is a regular
same number of sides, then what polygon and polygon B is irregular
characteristics are they differ from each polygon.
other?

Okay, very good!

3. Abstraction

Polygons are closed plane figure that

Okay, class. formed by the line segments that meet
only at their endpoints.
What are polygons?
Polygons are classified according to the
number of their sides and angles.
How polygons are classified?

Now, differentiate the regular from

irregular polygons. Mike: Regular polygons have all sides
congruent while irregular polygons have
Yes, Mike. non-congruent sides.

4. Application

I have prepared a moving activity for you.

I had paste shapes on the ten stations
inside of our room.
Then you need to identify the shapes
whether it is REGULAR or IRREGULAR.
Write your answer on the sheet of paper
before each number.
After each number, tell how many sides
are there in the given shapes. Yes ma’am!

Did you understand the instruction class?

You may start now!

paper.
