A famous cricket star Phillip Hughes was struck behind the ear by a ball while batting and died two days after the injury. He was wearing a helmet but the possible reason mentioned was that even when using a helmet, possibly a significant part of the neck remained exposed and the ball hit him there. And now most of the top cricketers across the world use deeper protection, 3 Marks (a) Do you feel protective gears are important? Lay stress on your views. ‘Ans: The head, arms, chest, thighs, private parts, knees, legs, and feet should all be protected while playing cricket. Helmets, batting gloves, chest guards, thigh guards, arm pads, shoulder pads, abdomen guards, leg protectors, shoes, wicket keeping gloves, and other protective gear are available. These athletic apparel must be of high quality. Protective equipment plays an important part in preventing sports injuries. Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 6 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner Vedantin (b) What first aid should be pro of the skin? Jed during injury at the superficial layer Ans: Sport injuries occur frequently in all games and sports. Sports injuries include contusions, sprains, abrasions, dislocations of joints, fractures, and bleeding Abrasion is a term used to describe a damage to the skin's surface layer. Abrasions are minor injuries that are easily cured. Most cuts and small abrasions will only bleed for a few minutes. If the bleeding does not cease on its own, apply a sterile bandage or a little amount of antibiotic ointment to the wound. Cover the abrasion with a bandage made of gauze and taped together. 18. What is meant by 'motivation'? Explain the different techniques of motivation to achieve high goals in sports. 3 Marks Ans: The term "motivation" refers to the act of being inspired to achieve something. Indeed, motivation is an individual's internal state that leads his behaviour toward a goal. Individuals are motivated to engage in certain activities by the force of motivation. It also determines the direction and intensity of an individual's actions. There are two types of motivation. (i) Intrinsic Motivation: Intrinsic motivation is motivation that comes from inside, When people are compelled to perform something out of pleasure, importance, or desire, it is known as compulsion. When the force originates from inside, motivation is always intrinsic. It is an intrinsic motivation, for example, when a person participates in a sport for the sake of mastery, superiority, or societal acclaim. i) Extrinsic motivation: Extrinsic motivation is derived from outside sources. It occurs when a person is compelled to act by external forces. When external stimuli, whether positive or negative, cause a behavioural change, motivation is always extrinsic. Extrinsic incentive might take the form of a reward, a punishment, praise, blame, or a monetary prize. It has been discovered that certain people are more motivated by such devices than others. 19, Explain Interval training method. 3 Marks Ans: Interval training is a type of cardiovascular exercise that involves endurance training. In 1920, Bikila, a Finnish athletic coach, created this training method In the system, he emphasised the need of rhythm between labour and rest, and dubbed it Terrace Training. Instead of running 10 or 20 miles a day, he used to Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 7 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner do 400 m races 10 to 20 times a day. Interval training became popular as a result of this training strategy. This training strategy is based on the notion of "effort and recovery" After each fast workout, the athlete is provided recuperation time during interval training. The recovery duration can be changed based on the athlete's efficiency. The following example can be applied to the training of a 400-meter runner. (i) 400-meter dash with an 80% chance of winning, (ii) Walking or jogging till his heart rate drops to around 120 to 140 Advantage: (i) More workouts can be completed in a shorter amount of time. (ii) It is better for the respiratory and circulatory systems, and it is possible to train both at the same time. (iii) The athlete's progress can be easily tracked 20. What are the Nutritive and Non-nutritive components of diet? Explain. 5 Marks Ans: A diet that includes all of the important food components, such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. A balanced diet consists of vitamins, minerals, and water in the proper quantities. Both nutritive and non-nutritive components are required ina well-balanced diet. © Nutritive Components of diet: Dietary components that contribute or provide energy or calories are known as nutritive components. Dietary components include a variety of nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. 1) Fat: Athletes rely heavily on fat as a source of energy. For best performance, different types of sports necessitate varying fat-to-muscle ratios. A distance runner, high jumper, or gymnast should have as little fat as possible. To reduce heat loss to the water, distance swimmers require a particular amount of fat at the skin surface. 2) Minerals: Mineral shortage might reduce performance, especially during hot weather exercises. Sweating lowers salt and chloride levels in the body. Excessive salt consumption can lead to potassium deficiency and excessive water retention People with hypertension may be at risk from this condition. 3) Vitamins: Vitamins are molecules that our bodies require in trace amounts to stay healthy. A deficiency condition can occur if a specific vitamin is not Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 8 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner consumed in the diet. For example, if vitamin 'C' is not included in one's diet, scurvy can develop 4) Proteins: The word "protein" comes from the Greek word "proteus," which means "the best substance from foods." Protein, which is the hasp of a live cell, forms protoplasm. If we consume less protein in our diet, our physical growth and development will be slowed 5) Carbohydrates: This is another important food component. Carbohydrates provide energy and act as a fuel in our bodies, Carbohydrate is also required for fat production, Individuals that put in a lot of effort require the most carbohydrates. On the face, the skin becomes loose and wrinkles emerge. © Non-nutritive diet components: Dietary components that do not contribute or provide energy or calories are known as non-nutritive. Non- nutritive components of diet or food include roughage water, colour, flavour, and pesticide residue, among others 21. What do you mean by correct posture? Explain the standing and sitting postures. What are the causes of bad posture? 5 Marks Ans: Correct posture is defined as the accurate and proper balancing of the body while sitting, standing, reading, walking, running, or performing any other action It means that proper posture is the position in which the body is held with the least amount of fatigue. It is also possible to say that an individual's posture is correct ifall of his or her organs are in good and correct alignment. Correct standing posture: Both heels of the feet should contact in the standing. position. The distance between tossing feet should be 3" to 4". The entire body should be upright, with straight knees, a chin inside, and the chest forward, with the body weight distributed evenly between both feet. The entire body should be balanced in this position. The line of the centre of gravity must cross through the ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle as viewed from the side. The muscles and ligaments are not stressed in this position. Correct sitting posture: when sitting in a chair, the hips should be as far back as, feasible. The head, spine, shoulders, and hips should all be in a straight line and standing upright, Legs should be touching the ground and not dangling. The position of the thighs should be horizontal. The book should be on the table when we read, but it should not be too far away or too close to our eyes. The distance between the book and your eyes should be at least 30 cm Cause of poor posture: (i) Accidents Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 9 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner (ii) Diseases (iii) Nutritional Deficit (iv) Poor Postural Habit (v) Inappropriate therapy (vi) Psychological strain (vii) Insufficiency of Strength (viii) Pactor of age (ix) Eye Sight Issues (x) Inappropriate footwear or outfit 22, Explain 'weight training’ as one of the oldest methods for development of strength, Describe its advantages and disadvantages. 5 Marks Ans: Weight training is the earliest kind of strength training. It involves exercises aimed at strengthening certain muscle groups. By forcing them to conquer a set of fixed obstacles, such as Barbells or Dumbles. © The following are some of the benefits of weight training: 1) Muscle Strength and Endurance are Enhanced: It tones the muscles and joints while also preventing injuries. It also aids in the flexibility and ‘weight management of children 2) Increases Physical Fitness Weight training gives the body a healthy shape and improves physical fitness. 3) Enhances athletic performance it improves athletic performance by increasing strength and endurance. The following are some of the drawbacks of weight training: 1) Injury Possibility Weight training that is not done under supervision or by children, as well as youths who exert a lot of effort, can result in significant injuries. To avoid the worst-case scenario, weight training should always be done with a partner or a supporter, or under the guidance of an expert. 2) Flexibility is limited. When solely weight training is done, the body's flexibility is reduced. As a result, flexibility exercises should be done as well Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 10 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner 23. Explain the physiological factors determining speed. 5 Marks Ans: Genetic factors have a large role in determining speed. The study of physiological factors aids in the selection of an individual's activities @ Nervous System Mobility: The quick stimulation and inhibition of the motor centres that control muscle contraction and relaxation allows for rapid muscular contraction and relaxation. For only a few seconds, the nervous system can maintain this fast excitation and inhibition. After then, only a few seconds of stimulation and inhibition are used. The stimulation then spread to neighbouring centres, generating tension throughout the body. Asa result, the speed decreases. The neurological system's mobility can only be educated to a limited amount. © Muscle composition: Muscles with a higher percentage of fast twitch fibre contract at a faster rate than those with a lower percentage of slow twitch fibre. Muscle position is determined by genetics and cannot be altered via training, © Explosive strength: Explosive strength is required for extremely rapid and explosive motions. The metabolic composition, muscle size, and muscular coordination all play a role. Muscles’ explosive strength can be strengthened by training. ©. Flexibility: It is also a factor in determining speed, Flexibility provides for a wide range of movements as well as the full use of explosive strength. 24, Classify sports injuries. Explain "P.R.LC.E.' procedure as a treatment of soft tissue injuries. 5 Marks Ans; A variety of sports injuries can be classified as acute, including: © Contusions (bruises) © Subluxation (partial dislocation that reduces itself) © Dislocation e Fractures ©. Sprains (injury to ligaments) © Species (injury to muscles) The P.R.LC.E. approach may be used to safely treat most acute sports injuries at home. PRICE. principles should be followed during the first 48 to 72 hours after an accident. During this time, the goal is to keep the swelling in the damaged area under control, prevent future injury, and relieve pain. Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com ul OF scanned wth OREN Scnner This technique can successfully reduce swelling in an injured location, resulting in a reduction in the amount of time needed for rehabilitation. The abbreviation means: A. P-Protection: Use a support or a splint to protect your injury from additional damage. B. R-Rest: For the first two to three days, rest your injuries. If your leg has been hurt, you may need to use crutches. Then gradually restore movement to avoid losing muscle strength and delaying your recovery. C. Hee: Apply a cold compress to the sore area, such as ice or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel. This will aid in the reduction of swelling and bruising. Do this every two to three hours for 15 to 20 minutes. Ice should not be applied straight to the skin since it can cause injury. D. C-Compression: Apply an elastic bandage or an elasticated tube bandage to the damaged area to help reduce swelling and movement. However, do not sleep with the bandage on. E, E-Elevation: Keep your injury elevated by elevating it above the level of your heat and supporting it. If you've hurt your leg, this could mean lying on the couch with your foot propped up on some pillows. 25. What is personality? Explain its different dimensions. 5 Marks ‘Ans: A person's personality usually implies that he is much more than his outward appearance. Personality also refers to a person's thought, feeling, social adjustment, and behaviour patterns, among other things Personality's several dimensions: 1. Physical Dimension: Personality is defined as an individual's physical appearance. A good personality is defined as someone who has a decent appearance, a lengthy height, a well-shaped body, and strong muscles. The first impression ofa person's personality is formed by his physical and mental abilities 2. Mental Dimension: If an individual has high mental abilities, then only his personality will be counted as good personality. For example, there are many smart people whose personalities are counted as good personalities despite the fact that they do not have good physical characteristics. 3. Social Dimension: A positive personality is gregarious and outgoing Character, morality, eltiquity, manners, work ethics, friendliness, good attitude, helpful disposition, collaboration, sympathy, and kindness are all social attributes or aspects that are necessary for a healthy personality Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 12 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner Vedantin 4, Emotional Dimension: Emotional stability is linked to emotional dimension, Emotional stability is an important part of a person's personality. It means that in various situations, one must be able to control diverse emotions such as fear, rage, disgust, discomfort, amusement, or enjoyment, among others. 26. What are the various types of friction? How is friction advantageous or disadvantageous in the field of games and sports? Explain with suitable examples. 5 Marks Ans: The force of friction is the force acting along two surfaces in contact that opposes the motion of one body over the other, In sports, it is extremely significant. The force of friction is proportional to the area of contact between the surfaces. The force of friction is lowered to virtually zero when both surfaces are smooth Friction are of three types: (i Static Friction: The opposing force that occurs when one body is attempting, to move over another surface but has not yet begun to do so. (ii) Limiting Friction: The maximum opposing force that occurs when one body is about to pass over the surface of another body (iii) Kinetic Friction: This is the opposing force that occurs when one body moves over the surface of another The majority of the time, friction is beneficial. It is therefore necessary in games and sports. We can't offer a better performance in sports if there isn't any friction. Athletes wear spiked shoes while sprinting, and football players wear studs in their boots. Friction, on the other hand, has drawbacks. There should be no more friction between the road surface and the cycle's tyres when cycling. Class XII Physical Education www vedantu.com 13 OF scanned wth OREN Scnner
