The Importance of Sound Doctrine (1)

WHAT is sound doctrine? This phrase comes from the Greek words, ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ,
HUGIAINOUSE DIDASKALIA. The basic meaning is doctrine which is right, correct, sound, and
without any error or perversions. This is the kind of doctrine that Paul wants Titus to speak contin-
ually, since the verb “speak” is found in the present tense and imperative mood. This means a con-
tinuous action and a command to obey. Now we ask the question: Why is sound doctrine so im-
portant? Let us examine the following reasons why:
Sound doctrine is important because it comes from God. Yes, my brethren, sound doctrine only
comes from God, since it is inspired of Him. The Apostle Paul wrote the following concerning the
inspiration of the Scriptures, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Sound doctrine is im-
portant because it is inspired of God, since holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit
(2 Peter 1:20-21). Therefore, we, as faithful Christians, must respect the doctrine of Christ at all
times.
Sound doctrine is important because God expects us to proclaim it. The Apostle Paul command-
ed Titus to speak those things which were proper to sound doctrine (Titus 2:1). Even the young
evangelist Timothy was commanded to uphold the patter of sound words (2 Timothy 1:13). Sadly,
there are many who are showing no respect for the authority of sound doctrine, and refuse to pro-
claim it just the way we find it in the Scriptures. As faithful children of God, we must take heed to
the command to emphasize sound doctrine in our lives and in our teaching and preaching of God’s
Word.
Sound doctrine is important because it can help us grow spiritually. False doctrine cannot help us
in any way to grow spiritually. The only word that can help us grow the way God wants us to
grow is His Word. God’s Holy Word is able to make us wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15), and is
able to build us up (Acts 20:32). This is why the Apostle Peter exhorts us to grown in the
knowledge of God’s Word (2 Peter 3:18). We will continue next week with the second part of this
article. May the Lord give us the wisdom to always uphold sound doctrine in our lives!

La importancia de la sana doctrina (1)

¿QUÉ es la sana doctrina? Esta frase proviene de las palabras griegas, ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ,
JUGIAINOUSE DIDASKALIA. El significado básico es doctrina que es correcta, sana y sin ningún
error o perversión. Este es el tipo de doctrina que Pablo quiere que Tito hable continuamente, ya
que el verbo "hablar" se encuentra en el tiempo presente e imperativo. Esto significa una acción
continua y una orden a obedecer. Ahora hacemos la pregunta: ¿Por qué la sana doctrina es tan im-
portante? Examinemos las siguientes razones por las cuales lo es:
La sana doctrina es importante porque viene de Dios. Sí, mis hermanos, la sana doctrina sólo vie-
ne de Dios, ya que es inspirada por Él. El Apóstol Pablo escribió lo siguiente acerca de la inspira-
ción de las Escrituras: "Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir,
para corregir, para instruir en justicia" (2 Timoteo 3:16). La sana doctrina es importante porque es
inspirada por Dios, ya que los santos hombres de Él hablaron, siendo movidos por el Espíritu Santo
(2 Pedro 1: 20-21). Por lo tanto, nosotros, como cristianos fieles, debemos respetar la doctrina de
Cristo en todo momento.
La sana doctrina es importante porque Dios espera que la proclamemos. El apóstol Pablo ordenó
a Tito que hablara de las cosas que eran propias de la sana doctrina (Tito 2: 1). Incluso el joven
evangelista Timoteo recibió el mandamiento de retener la forma de las sanas palabras (2 Timoteo
1:13). Lamentablemente, hay muchos que no muestran respeto por la autoridad de la sana doctrina,
y se niegan a proclamarla tal como la encontramos en las Escrituras. Como hijos fieles de Dios, de-
bemos prestar atención al mandato de enfatizar la sana doctrina en nuestras vidas y en nuestra en-
señanza y predicación de la Palabra de Dios.
La sana doctrina es importante porque nos puede ayudar a crecer espiritualmente. La falsa doctri-
na no puede ayudarnos de ninguna manera a crecer espiritualmente. La única palabra que puede
ayudarnos a crecer de la manera que Dios quiere que crezcamos es Su Palabra. La Santa Palabra de
Dios es capaz de hacernos sabios para la salvación (2 Timoteo 3:15), y es capaz de edificarnos
(Hechos 20:32). Por eso el apóstol Pedro nos exhorta a crecer en el conocimiento de la Palabra de
Dios (2 Pedro 3:18). Continuaremos la próxima semana con la segunda parte de este artículo. ¡Que
el Señor nos dé la sabiduría para defender siempre la sana doctrina en nuestras vidas!
