The document discusses the importance of teacher-student interpersonal relationships and appropriate boundaries. It notes that positive relationships allow students to engage more in class without fear. However, teachers must remain professional to avoid issues like romantic relationships, as outlined in DepEd Order 49. While strict teachers can be effective, maintaining distance is important to prevent problems outside of school. Overall, the key is drawing a clear line between appropriate friendliness and crossing relationship boundaries.

The Teacher- Student Interpersonal Relationship
Interpersonal relationship refers to the relationship you had with your peers, and in this case, it means an interaction between the teacher and his or her students. It refers to the ability of the teacher to provide his or her students with a safe and positive educational setting. It is very important because if a teacher has a good relationship with his or her students, the students can engage more in class and won’t be shy or afraid to ask questions regarding their lesson. I once had a very strict professor back then; when he entered the class, he would shuffle the index cards and start his ritual of oral recitation. He used a Socratic method to engage and test his students, which is why we were forced to study in advance in order to answer his question during oral recitations. But even if his method of teaching is a bit tricky and nervous, I learned so much from him, and because of that, I can say that every teacher has their own strategy on how their students can grasp or understand the topic they are discussing. On the other hand, a teacher-student interpersonal relationship should have its limits. I believe that the teacher should be professional at all times and should maintain a distant relationship with his students so that it won’t create future problems such as a student-teacher romantic relationship, which is prohibited under the law. According to Department of Education (DepEd) Order 49, which amends a previous directive that “professionalizes the delivery of basic education programs and services,” teachers, non-teaching personnel, and employees should “avoid relationships, interactions, and communication, including following social media, with learners outside of the school setting, except if they are relatives.” This is related to a criminal case in which a teacher in Samar was stabbed by his former student during a drinking session. In conclusion, I believe that these incidents could have been avoided if a teacher and student had drawn a fine line between friendships and relationships inside and outside of the school premises.
