A. At the end of the lessons, the learners should acquire knowledge of what
Rizal has contributed to science.
B. To know how Rizal helped the people in Dapitan in farming.
C. Identify the tools that Rizal made while in Dapitan.
D. Desccribe Rizal being a businessman in Dapitan.

B. MOTIVATION

 Before we proceed with our


discussion let us have first a game. I
will show you some pictures and
guess whether it indicates or relates
to a Scientist, Farmer, Inventor or a
Businessman.

I. Activity

 What is the significance of Rizal being


a Scientist, Farmer, Inventor and a
Businessman in the people of Dapitan?  Students answers the
 Write it in a 1/2 sheet of paper. I will activity
give you 10 minutes to answer the
activity.
 After the activity I will pick 5 students
to present their work in class.

 Looks like you listened to my
discussion. Knowing the significance
of what Rizal did in Dapitan was a
very much help for the people there
especially for their everyday living,
knowledge and life.

III. Abstraction

 Okay class settle down and let us start


the discussion for today.
 RIZAL AS A SCIENTIST:
 While he was in Dapitan, Rizal found
Mindanao a rich virgin field for
collecting specimens.
 With his pupils they explored the
jungles and coasts for specimens of
birds, insects, snakes, lizards, frogs,
shells and plants.
 He sent these to the museum of
Europe esp. the Dresden museum
which in return gave him books and
surgical equipments.
 For his four years of exile in Dapitan,
he built up a rich collection of
concology which consisted of 346
shells representing 203 species.
 RIZAL AS A FARMER:
 Dr. Jose Rizal bought 16 hectares of
land in Talisay where he built his
home, school and hospital.
 He planted copra, coffee, sugarcane,
coconuts and fruits.
 He introduced the modern
ways/methods of Agriculture to the
people in Dapitan.
 RIZAL AS AN INVENTOR:
 In 1897, he invented "sulpukan" which
he sent sent to Ferdinand Johann
Franz Blumentritt (Rizal's closest friend
and companion). It also was known
while in Calamba.
 While in Dapitan he invented a brick
making machine.
 He also introduced the hemp-stripping
machine to help improve the industry.
 RIZAL AS A BUSINESSMAN:
 Rizal's business partner in dapitan was
Ramon Carreon.
 Made profitable business ventures in
fishing, copra, hemp industry and lime
manufacturing.
 Organized a cooperative to stop the
chinese monopoly in Dapitan in
January 1, 1895.
 He invited his sister Saturnina for
textile, jewelry and hemp business.
 Taught the fisherfolks in Dapitan on
how to use the new fishing nets and
how to weave one.
