Introduction
NCFE has created a sample task for unit 2 Managing personal and professional development
(R/615/4516) which you can contextualise to suit the needs of your learners to help them complete their
internal assessment. The task has been designed to cover all the learning outcomes for the unit and
provide opportunities for stretch and challenge.

You should plan the subject and apply the brief to the tasks in a way that suits your learners. If you
choose to create your own internal assessment tasks, they must:

 be accessible and lead to objective assessment judgements


 permit and encourage authentic activities where the learner’s own work can be clearly judged
 permit effective discrimination between learners operating at different levels
 cover the required content.

NCFE has provided guidance to help Tutors create valid and reliable internal assessment tasks. You
must refer to this guidance when creating your own internal assessment tasks. The guidance can be

Assessors must be confident that, as a minimum, all learning outcomes have been evidenced and met
by the learner.

Internal assessment tasks

Scenario

You are a Personal Development Coach for Recognising Potential LTD. Your role is to help
individuals plan their personal and professional development. You also work with many businesses
who are keen to develop the personal and professional development of their employees.

You have been inspired by the quote below, which has prompted you to analyse some of the
different factors which may influence the need for personal and professional development, and how
this can be implemented.

likely to experience higher levels of happiness, purpose and satisfaction’ www.theguardian.com.

Task 1

LO 1

To be able to effectively support individuals to plan their personal and professional development you
should research and analyse different perspectives and approaches that can influence personal and
professional development considering:

 the influence developments in management can have on the need for professional development
 management and leadership styles and how these can inspire others to realise their personal values
and goals and plan for a career that helps them to achieve them
 possible causes of changes in the work environment and the impact this can have on the personal
and professional development of individuals in your team
 the benefits of planning your own professional development.

Types of evidence:

You must provide:

 an analysis of the different perspectives and approaches that can influence personal and
professional development.

Evidence could include:

 your research
 a report
 a training guide
 a presentation.

Create some training materials to use when supporting other businesses to develop the personal and
professional development of their employees. You can present these materials in any way you wish but
they must cover:

 factors that contribute to an effective personal and professional plan


 the value of professional networks and bodies, and the support and networking opportunities these
can provide
 the purpose of activities, eg:
- is it to achieve an organisational or personal objective
- is it to achieve medium or long-term objectives
 how to select appropriate activities best suited to the personal performance of the individual and their
learning styles that will also benefit the business as a whole
 the value of constructive feedback and techniques that can be used to monitor the success of the
activity for the business and the individual against set objectives.

Types of evidence:

You must provide:

 training materials, these could include:


- training guide
- presentation
- any other training materials.

Evidence could include:

 your research
 a report.
