UNIT4- lesson 12:Global Divides

CONTEMPLATE

When you hear the word MODERNITY, what image of the world do you see? Illustrate your
vision in the space provided.

 Modernity is frequently defined by contrasting modern societies with premodern or

postmodern ones, and understanding those non-modern social statuses is, once again, far
from settled. To some extent, it is reasonable to question the very possibility of a
descriptive concept capable of adequately capturing the diverse realities of societies from
various historical contexts, particularly non-European societies, let alone a three-stage
model of social evolution from premodernity to postmodernity.

What are your thoughts as you were drawing your vision?

 For me, modernity is a state defined by specific values and ideologies. It is a way of life
defined by ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that differ from pre-modern ways (the age
before the onset of the modern world).

ASSESSMENT

1. What are the affordances and pitfalls of viewing the world as divided into global north and global
south?
 The Global North is defined by nations that are fully developed; these countries have strong
economies and access to vast resources. Developing countries were considered to be in the
Global South. In exchange, rich countries provide raw materials, services, minerals, and food to
their developing neighbors.

2. Is the global divide something that you feel is affecting you daily, in your home, or in your country?
 Yes, it has an impact on our daily lives, but first, let us define the term "global divide." The global
digital divide refers to global inequality in access to technology and information on the internet,
as well as the opportunity that comes with such availability, primarily between developed and
developing countries. It contributes to unequal access to technologically enabled goods and
services. Computers and the Internet improve education, which can lead to higher wages;
people in low-income countries suffer as a result. People in remote areas who do not have
Internet access are cut off as a result of the global divide. Disconnected city dwellers have a
similar experience, resulting in social isolation. It also makes learning and studying difficult. The
impact of the digital divide in learning was observed during the Coronavirus pandemic, with
teachers and students being left out of the cycle due to a lack of adequate technologies and
online skills. It creates a loss of knowledge by restricting access to information. Furthermore, it
reduces the likelihood of finding and obtaining quality employment, which is harmful to the
economy and workers.

3. If you were our country’s leader, what programs or policies will you propose knowing how the
world economic systems goes?
 Being a country's leader or president is difficult because it necessitates extensive planning and
the creation of decisions that benefit all or most citizens. If I were to become a country's leader
or president, I would like to improve my country's education system. Although it is beneficial for
everyone, there are still disparities between the rich and the poor. I am aware that there are
some scholarships that everyone can access; however, not everyone will be given the
opportunity to access a scholarship. This could be because some people will choose to work to
provide for their families, particularly financially, or for other reasons. Though it does not
happen in all cases, it does occur on occasion. In addition, I would work to strengthen the trade
economy by establishing strong union networks.
