Subject Name: LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Objective:
Define and explain different aspects of multiple constrains among teachers, students and the
learning environment.
How multiple constraints among the teacher, students, and the learning
environment affect real teaching?
Teaching as a career is not the best option in Ecuador due to a huge variety of
constraints that are not always related with the teacher’s motivation level; in fact, these
constraints are closely related with how system and actual society perceive education. Public
education conditions are decadent, teachers are supposed to deal with at least 30 to 40 students
in a classroom, their needs and special conditions. The infrastructure quality leaves a lot to be
desired, because most of public schools do not count even with the most basic services such as
potable water, electric service and sanitary services. Bureaucracy is another problem because
the Education Minister asks teachers to provide evidence of absolutely everything. The amount
of working hours go beyond the supposed ones and the payment does not compensate the effort.
Focusing our attention is ESL teaching, the possibility of access a training program
demands an investment, but it does not guarantee an employment opportunity or an economic
recognition. Practicing the second language with other teachers or native speakers hardly ever
happens so it is difficult to improve language level. Dealing with students’ motivation is
another constraint because students chip is set up with the objective of pass the school year and
English is not a main subject in their points of view.
Despite of all these constrains teaching the most important profession; without teachers,
society cannot get a real development. It is necessary to value teachers and education and the
biggest change could be done by government, by creating training programs, increasing
salaries, promoting a new perspective about education and changing this old system.
