The chart shows the percentage of people aged 25-34 rent or bought the house in the UK.

Moreover, it
illustrates this change over a period of 11 years from 2004 to 2014.

Generally, the percentage of people within this age range has done down significantly since 2004. In
2004, the percentage of homeowners was nearly 60% but in 2014, this percentage fell to under 40%.
During the down trend of the number of people who had their own house, it has two special points in
2007 and 2012. In 2007, the percentage of homeowners increased slightly but then, the down trend was
continuous. In 2012, it remained over 40% but after that, the percentage dropped to over 35% in 2014.

In the other hand, the rental market had increased considerably in the same time. From 2004 to 2014,
the percentage of renters aged 25-34 went up consistently in almost years. In 2006 and 2012, the rental
market was almost unchanged. And in 2014, the percentage of renters reached a peak at under 50%.

In conclusion, when comparing the change of percentage of renters and homeowners in the age of 25-
34 from 2004 to 2014, it is easily apparent that the number of renters tend to rise and the number of
homeowners tend to decrease.
