First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED)

March 10, 2022 (Thursday), 8:00 A.M.

Narrative Report

The Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) with Memo No. 00-0621-
0039 through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Services (DRRMS) enjoins
schools and offices across all levels of the Department of Education take part in the 1 st
Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 10, 2022 at exactly
8:00 in the morning via Zoom and Facebook Live.
The conduct of the countrywide synchronized Earthquake Drill was participated by
some of our distant learners (with permission from their parents/ guardians) while others are
accompanied by their family members. Other participants of the said drill also include
selected teaching and non- teaching staff of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High
School- JHS who were all “Work from Home” (WFH) because the school was scheduled for
disinfection.
To perform this kind of activity in the middle of the pandemic is a big challenge to
everyone especially to our learners where their homes became their haven for new learning
and their parents/ guardians turned out to be their immediate teachers. Effective learning
environments became a struggle to most of them. Moreover, their mindsets and present
goals momentarily shift towards on the Self- Instructional Printed Modules (SIPM). As usual,
teachers and staffs learn to adapt to prevailing situations.
This simulation primarily aims to (1) educate every personnel, member and clientele
of the school community to have a better “know- how” during disaster, (2) elevate the level of
awareness and enhance disaster preparedness during earthquake, (3) strengthen
individual’s resiliency in facing the aftermath of the disaster, and (4) exercise the culture of
safety in a day- to- day living. Several dissemination campaigns were conducted prior to the
Quarter I NSED using varied social media platforms such as giving a brief detail on proper
way to execute a Duck- Cover and Hold procedures.
On the 10th day of March, 2022 (Thursday), at exactly 8:00 A.M., the NDRRMC held
a virtual program prior to the mandate of the 1st Quarter Earthquake Drill. Selected students

and teachers who were at home simultaneously executed the Duck, Cover and Hold
procedures – a tested and proven simple yet effective ways to safeguard one’s self from a
probable risks and serious injuries. School- based Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management (SDRRM) committee facilitate the said Earthquake Drill. Below are the Means
of Verifications of the recent concluded activity.
