Activity List Template for Project Managers

1 Initiation Sign contract/SOW Project manager will obtain statement of work
signature from customer.
2 Initiation Obtain purchase order Customer will issue a purchase order required
for billing.
3 Planning Create system design Product experts will create the new system
design.
4 Planning Create and review bill of Product experts will identify which equipment,
materials software and licenses need to be purchased.
5 Planning Inspect site and create list of Engineering team will visit the site where the
remediation activities new system will be installed and determine
required preparation activities.
6 Preparation Complete remediation activities Engineering team will complete cabling,
electrical power installation, system
configuration, equipment redistribution, rack
installation and any other activities required in
preparation for new system implementation.

7 Preparation Obtain old system information Engineering team will obtain information or
and backup backup from old system so that it can be
analyzed and used in new system.
8 Preparation Create testing environment Engineering team will build a testing
environment with the same characteristics of
the new system. This testing must validate that
the design will work for customer conditions.

9 Preparation Complete testing and Engineering team will run validation tests on
simulation on testing testing environment. Also a rollback testing
environment must be performed.
10 Preparation Rack and stack new equipment Engineering team will visit customer site, mount
new devices, and ensure remediation activities
are completed and ready for new system
launch.

11 Cutover Back up and shut down old Engineering team on new system launch date
system will back up and shut down old system. This
should be completed within the customer-
approved maintenance window.

12 Cutover Complete cabling to new Engineering team will complete cabling to the
system new devices, ensuring every cable is fully
labeled and follows cable-organizing standards.
13 Cutover Start up new system and Engineering team will complete new system
complete testing commissioning plan, making sure to run
validation testing and complete the startup
checklist.

14 Cutover Decommission old system After new system is confirmed to be working as


expected, engineering team will decommission
old system.
15 Support Support new system and train Engineering team will be on-site to support and
operations team solve any issues, as well as provide training to
the operations team.
16 Closure Get project closure signature Project manager will obtain project closure
signature after all pending items have been
closed.
