STORY TELLING: THE HUNGRY CATERPILLAR

THEME: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and Heritage through Reading and Literacy

Eligibility
1. This competition is open to all Grades 1-3 students of St. Joseph School for the school year
2022-2023.
2. Each section is entitled to have 2 participants.

General Rules and Mechanics:


1. An official piece for the contest will be provided to the representative in advance to give
enough time for him/her to memorize it.
2. The contestant can use the lapel or microphone while recording his/her contest piece.
3. The time of the recorded file should only be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 3
minutes.
4. The students can use virtual background or picture background while recording.
5. The presentation will be judge according to the following criteria:

CRITERIA
Voice projection, pronunciation, and pace 30%
Facial Expression and Gestures 20%
Mastery of Content 20%
Stage Presence and Confidence (Stage poise, eye contact and audience impact) 20%
Props and costume 10%
Total 100%
6. Three awards will be given; 2nd Runner up, 1st Runner up and Champion.
7. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

SPELLING BEE

THEME: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and Heritage through Reading and Literacy

Eligibility
1. This competition is open to all Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6 students of St. Joseph School for
the school year 2022-2023.
2. Each section is entitled to have 5 participants for each section for grades 1-3 and 2 participants
for each section of grades 4-6.
3. The English subject teacher will conduct an elimination round during their English class to
determine the contestants of each section for the final round.

General Rules and Mechanics:


1.The Final stage consists of 3 Oral Spelling Rounds: easy, average, and difficult.
2. Each speller will take turns and spell up to 3 words in the stage by choosing a number that
corresponds to a word they will spell. Contestants must cover their eyes with their hands while
answering.
3.Each Contestant is given 1 minute to spell the word correctly.
4. Each word that the speller correctly spells will grant him a point: easy round 1 pt. average
round 3 pts difficult round 5 pts.
5. At the end of the stage, the speller with the highest score will be declared Grand Champion of
the Spelling Bee.
6. Three awards will be given; 2nd Runner up, 1st Runner up and Champion.
7. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

CHARACTER PORTRAYAL

THEME: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and Heritage through Reading and Literacy
Eligibility
1. This competition is open to all Grades 4-6 students of St. Joseph School for the school year
2021-2022.
2. Each section is entitled to have one participant.
General Rules and Mechanics:
1. The contestants have the privilege to choose a protagonist and an antagonist of any literary
story.
2. The contestants will present a declamation about their characters in 3-5 minutes.
3. The contestants must wear a costume like or similar to the character being portrayed. They can
use a lapel or microphone during the presentation.
4. The contestants will present their piece live during the contest proper.
5. The presentation will be judge according to the following criteria:
CRITERIA
Delivery (Quality of voice, fluency, and pronunciation, blending and harmony) 30%
Interpretation (manner in which the piece is internalized and presented) 30%
Video presentation (Stage poise, eye contact, Projection) 20%
Costume, Sound Effects & props (attire relevant to the concept, sound production) 20%
Total: 100 %
6. Three awards will be given; 2nd Runner up, 1st Runner up and Champion.
7. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

DECLAMATION

THEME: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and Heritage through Reading and Literacy

Eligibility:
1. Declamation Competition is open to all Grades 7-8 students of St. Joseph School for school
year 2022-2023.
2. Each section shall have one representative.
General Rules and Mechanics:
3. The contest piece will be provided by the English Subject Teacher
4. The presentation will be judge according to the following criteria
CRITERIA
PERCENTAGE  Delivery (quality of voice, fluency, and pronunciation, blending and
harmony) 40%  Interpretation (manner in which the piece is internalized and presented) 30% 
Stage Presence (stage poise, eye contact and audience impact) 20% 
Costume, Sound Effects & Props (attire relevant to the concept, sound production) 10%
Total 100%
5. Three awards will be given; 2 nd Runner up, 1st Runner up and Champion

THEME: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and Heritage through Reading and Literacy

Eligibility:
1. Spoken Poetry Competition is open to all Grades 7-8 students of St. Joseph School for school
year 2022-2023.
2. Each section shall have one representative.
General Rules and Mechanics:
1. The spoken poetry must be an original composition.
2. The piece must be related to the English month theme: SJS: Nurturing Filipino Culture and
Heritage through Reading and Literacy
3. Each contestant is given a maximum of 3-5 minutes to recite or deliver their given piece.
4. The contestants can wear any formal attire while delivering their speech.
5. The following are the criteria for judging:
Relevance to the theme 40%
Creativity/Style and originality 20%
Clarity of words and dictation 10%
Clear insight into poets’ intention 10%
Total: 100%
6. Three awards will be given; 2nd Runner up, 1st Runner up and Champion
7. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.
