Short Background and As stated from Division Memorandum No. 209 s. 2022, the
Rationale
conduct of this activity is anchored to the principles of
(Basis/Reference)
Republic Act No. 7079 otherwise known as Campus Journalism
Act of 1991 which states to uphold and protect the freedom of
the press even at the campus level and to promote the
development and growth of campus journalism as a means of
strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative
thinking and developing moral character and personal
discipline of the Filipino Youth. Furthermore, the State shall
undertake various programs and projects aimed at improving
the journalistic skills of students concerned and promoting
responsible and free journalism.
This year’s theme, “DIIN: Intensifying the Role of Campus
Journalism in Literacy Recovery and Community
Empowerment” revolves around the signifance of campus
journalism in addressing learning poverty in literacy that
severed due to the school closures caused by the COVID-19
pandemic and likewise emphasizes the role of campus
journalists as patrollers of accountability, transparency,
development, and truth for empowered citizenries.

conference to identify the learners who can be the
representatives in the upcoming higher-level of competitions in
Journalism.
Contribution of the Dona Arsenia Elementary School is one with the Tarlac City
session to the
Schools Division in ensuring that learners shall be developed
learning outcomes
holistically with emphasis on creative and critical thinking that
are all embedded skills in Journalism.
Objectives This activity aims to:
 exercise Republic Act No. 7079 otherwise known as the
Campus Journalism Act of 1991;
 demonstrate understanding on the importance of Journalism
by expressing it through different journalistic endeavors and
approaches;
 provide a venue for an enriching learning experience for
students interested in Journalism as a career or those who
intend to use skills sets learned through campus journalism
to give them a better edge in their chosen careers;
 promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of
social media and other platforms;
 exhibit the relevance of campus journalism in addressing
learning poverty in literacy and in empowering communities
through different journalistic activities; and
 enhance journalistic competence through healthy and friendly
competitions.
