The Human Person Flourishing in terms of Science and Technology

Activity 1: Applying the Scientific Method

Direction: Follow the scientific method focusing on what you can immediately observe that
is happening in the environment at 8 o’clock in the morning. Use the data sheet below to
write down your answers. For the data analysis, assume that you performed the test and
were able to prove that your hypothesis is an answer to the problem.

Location of Observation:
House

I. Making Observations and stating the Problem

We tend to misplace things when badly needed. Wandering around
our house at 8 am in the morning, my family were busy as they were
preparing for work and school. While I was in my bedroom eating, my
mother asked me if I saw her phone but I said no. It had not been found
since last night so she asked me if I could find it for her.

II. Formulating Hypothesis

1. Maybe she left it at our store.

2. Maybe, she misplaced it here around the house.
3. Maybe, someone took it.

III. Testing the Hypothesis with an experiment

1. I tried calling my mother's phone to test whether it would ring or not.

2. When it said that it was unattended, I thought of the places around our
house where my mother would probably leave her phone.
3. I tried searching everywhere to find the phone but still failed.
4. Until the next day, I went to our store and searched for it.
5. I found the phone in the cabinet then gave it to my mother.

IV.Stating the Conclusion

I therefore conclude that my mother left her phone at our store. It is not
new to us to misplace our things, but we must always remember the possible
reasons why it was not founded, especially if it was important.
Guide Questions:

1. What do you think will happen if the steps in the scientific method are in different order?

It will be difficult to understand, and we will be unable to find the best

solutions to the difficulties. The method also provides an objective and approach
that assists them in improving the outcome. Focusing our efforts and sorting
through our observations and data will be made easier by being aware of the
phases in the scientific method.

2. If you would be adding more steps to the scientific method, what would be these steps?
Discuss the additional steps you are proposing.

Following the conclusion, we must sketch the proposed solution and

implement it. Careful planning allows you to more effectively address the
problem, and problem-solving assists us in identifying things, establishing why
they require an answer, and determining a path of action to correct them.
