My name is maya hashim i'm originally
From bahrain
And I have just finished my phd
However I've been in academia for the
Last 17 years
Before joining gyps and before starting
My phd my role
Was more on the administration side
Where I have established different
Departments and different institutions
In the university
However I decided to move over to the
More the academic side
Uh five years ago
And that's the first step towards that
Was doing my phd
And just a couple of weeks ago I
Finished that and it was on women
Entrepreneurs
In bahrain where I had a different focus
On
Trying to understand women
Entrepreneurship in bahrain from
Masculinity perspective from legitimacy
Perspective as well as uh well-being

Background what's your bachelor
degree and your master degree and all this stuff

Yes so I graduated
From market management and marketing
And then I took and that was a degree
That I did in bahrain
Um however I was actually raised here in
Sweden so I went through the school
System here in sweden and then I moved
Back to bahrain where I did my
University degree and that was as I
Mentioned in management and marketing
and then I did my master's
In leadership in health professions
Education in ireland
Uh it's the I so I it's the same
University I used to work for in bahrain
Who have this program in ireland and I
Did that for two years
Uh before actually coming to sweden

We were studying gender
But um my question now

Please explain us what does mean gender

that's a very interesting and Good
Question because usually how people
Tend to in the normal life discuss
Gender it's like
Equal
Gender is usually equated to
Um the sexes either you're a man or a
Woman or a girl or a boy however when we
Talk about gender is actually more than
That it's actually how you do gender for
Instance in certain cultures
You do masculinity in a in a certain way
You do femininity in a different way you
Enact the gender
Based on what your expectation social
Expectations or sometimes you're against
You go against that for instance we know
From
Uh
Women entrepreneurship literature who
Have actually focused quite a lot on
Gender
That women
Are
Have always been in a western context at
Least
Being evaluated based on
The male figure that has been dominating
In the literature and because the male
Figure has certain
Characteristics in terms of enacting
Certain genders such as taking risk
Or
Being aggressive and all of that
That has made the literature assume that
Entrepreneurship should be based on
These characteristics and gender that
Has been enacted by these men that has
Been studied before however now when we
Have more and more women
Entering entrepreneurship
We see that they sometimes enact a
Different gender by being more feminine
By being more
uh
Relationship building is sometimes more
Important for women than in men so this
Is how they enact different forms of
Gender
But it's important to mention that
Men can enact masculinity and they can
Enact femininity as well as women can
Enact masculinity and they can enact
Femininity so gender is not the same as
Sex it's a it's how you do

About my part of the world about women
Who look like me who come from the
Middle east and we see sometimes that the middle
East is con discussed as one homogenous
Group however middle east
Is a
It's a huge uh context
That has different
Geographies
Different resources different people
Different culture different traditions
Different religions and I wanted to
Bring
To fore and make focus on these
Different aspects that exist and the
Fact that I come from bahrain which is
The gulf
Um this is a very important issue that
Has played a role in the recent economy
As well both entrepreneurship and
Engaging women into the emerging economy
And this is how I how I wanted to
Make the connections between gender and
Entrepreneurship and the more I read
From the literatura and the literature is very much western
Focused so it addresses issues
That are related to women and
Entrepreneurship that are
Mainly western
Uh
Aspects however
I could
Be because of my background and because
Of the context that I'm studying I think
I can contribute quite a lot to the
Mainstream literature and this is what
Was made my aim and hopefully my aim in
The future studies to really bring in
New insights to the knowledge that has
Been established
By bringing in different contexts

facultad de ciencias económicas y administrativas de la universidad Antonio Nariño.
Así que hoy estamos transmitiendo desde Jhon shopping escuela de negocios
internacional taller de ingeniería en Suecia Y doy la bienvenida a nuestra Fika, así que
todavía no sé porque no me he explicado aún, pero Fika significa, pero todos sabrán luego
Y todavía y que uh te puedo decir que tengo ya mi café y nuestros invitados del ge tour
también toma un café y luego hablaremos de Fika. Te recuerdo que este es un espacio
académico para conversar y ha sido inspirado en el programa institucional de la
universidad Antonio Nariño llamado pasos, pasos que significa en ingles Programa de
apoyo y seguimiento a estudiantes, seguimiento oportuno a estudiantes.

presenta por favor.

Hola a todos gracias por esta oportunidad de presentarme. Mi nombre es Maya Hashim
soy originalmente de Bahrein y acabo de terminar mi doctorado. Sin embargo, he estado
en el mundo académico durante últimos 17 años antes de unirte a gyps y antes de
empezar mi doctorado mi papel estaba más en el lado de la administración donde he
establecido diferentes departamentos y diferentes instituciones en la Universidad, Sin
embargo, decidí mudarme a la más el lado académico eh hace cinco años y ese es el
primer paso hacia eso.
Estaba haciendo mi doctorado y hace apenas un par de semanas yo terminé eso y estaba
en las mujeres. Emprendedores en Bahrein donde tenía un enfoque diferente sobre
tratando de entender a las mujeres emprendimiento en Bahrein desde La perspectiva de
la masculinidad desde la legitimidad perspectiva y uh bienestar.

¡Genial! Pero entonces Maya tu fondo exactamente tus antecedentes ¿cuál es tu
licenciatura? grado y su maestría y todas estas cosas.
Sumaya Hashim
Si, entonces me gradué desde la gestión del mercado y el marketing y luego tomé y eso
fue un título que hice en Bahrein Um, sin embargo, en realidad me crié aquí en Suecia, así
que pasé por la escuela. Sistema aquí en Suecia y luego me mudé de vuelta a Bahrein
donde hice mi título universitario y así fue como yo mencionado en gestión y marketing. y
luego hice mi maestría En liderazgo en profesiones de la salud Educación en Irlanda Uh es
el yo entonces yo es lo mismo Universidad para la que solía trabajar en Bahrein quien
tiene este programa en Irlanda y yo hice eso durante dos años. Uh antes de venir a Suecia.

género. Pero um mi pregunta ahora estarán para usted por favor, explícanos qué significa
género.

Eso es muy interesante y bueno pregunta porque normalmente cómo la gente tiende a
discutir en la vida normal género es como Igual el género suele equipararse a Um los sexos
o eres un hombre o un mujer o una niña o un niño sin embargo cuando nosotros Hablar
de género es en realidad más que en realidad es cómo haces el género para Instancia en
ciertas culturas Haces la masculinidad de una manera determinada haces la feminidad de
una manera diferente a ti. promulgar el género basado en lo que su expectativa social
expectativas o a veces estás en contra vas en contra de eso, por ejemplo, sabemos desde
oh literatura de mujeres emprendedoras que En realidad, me he centrado mucho en
género que las mujeres Son Siempre han estado en un contexto occidental en menos
siendo evaluado en base a La figura masculina que viene dominando en la literatura y
porque el varón la figura tiene cierta características en términos de promulgación ciertos
géneros, como tomar riesgos o ser agresivo y todo eso. Eso ha hecho que la literatura
asuma que el emprendimiento debe basarse en estas características y el género que Ha
sido promulgada por estos hombres que ha Se ha estudiado antes, sin embargo, ahora,
cuando tener más y más mujeres entrar en el espíritu empresarial vemos que a veces
promulgan un género diferente por ser más femenino. Al ser más oh La construcción de
relaciones a veces es más Importante para las mujeres que en los hombres por lo que este
es como se promulgan diferentes formas de género, pero es importante mencionar que
Los hombres pueden representar la masculinidad y pueden promulgar la feminidad tan
bien como las mujeres pueden promulgar la masculinidad y ellos pueden promulgar
Feminidad por lo que género no es lo mismo que el sexo es como lo haces eh el género.

¡Genial! entonces Teniendo en cuenta que mi siguiente pregunta fue um Sobre la relación
eh entre la relación que estableciste entre análisis de género y emprendimiento su allá tu
tesis doctoral mujer emprender tu investigación Mmm que comienzo casa que tu
establecer que la relación entre el género y emprendimiento.

Ok, esa es una buena pregunta que tengo. Siempre ha estado interesado en temas de
género. Especialmente cuando se trata de mujeres, la el hecho de que me crié aquí en
Suecia me planteó muchas preguntas en términos de sobre mujeres y mujeres. Emite el y
cómo a veces aquí en un western contexto hay conceptos erróneos Sobre mi parte del
mundo sobre las mujeres que se parecen a mí que vienen de la Medio Oriente y vemos a
veces que el medio este es discutido como un homogéneo grupo sin embargo medio
oriente es un es un gran contexto uh que tiene diferente geografías diferentes recursos
diferentes personas diferentes culturas diferentes tradiciones diferentes religiones y yo
quería traer para adelantar y hacer foco en estos diferentes aspectos que existen y los el
hecho de que vengo de Bahrein, que es el Golfo este es un tema muy importante que ha
desempeñado un papel en la economía reciente. Así como el espíritu empresarial y
involucrar a las mujeres en la economía emergente Y así es como yo quería hacer las
conexiones entre género y emprendimiento y cuanto más leo de la literatura y la literatura
es muy occidental enfocado para que aborde los problemas que están relacionados con
las mujeres y emprendimientos que son principalmente occidental Oh aspectos sin
embargo yo podría Sea por mi origen y porque del contexto que estoy estudiando creo
puedo contribuir bastante a la literatura convencional y esto es lo que se hizo mi objetivo
y, con suerte, mi objetivo en Los estudios futuros para realmente traer nuevas
percepciones del conocimiento que ha sido establecido al incorporar diferentes contextos.
