FINAL ASSESSMENT SCIENCE 10

Inquiry Project TED TALK PRESENTATION

Task
Pick a topic/ issue that is science related,
Explore a minimum of 2 viewpoints about the topic,
Form some opinions about it, and
Present this information to the class in the format of a TED TALK (2 to 4 minutes)

What to do
 
 Research a topic within science and present on it in a TED talk format
o Aim to present for 3 - 5 minutes
o Consider at least 2 different perspectives
 Environmental  Cultural
 Social  Ethical
 Economic  Personal
 Aboriginal  Other – discuss with teacher
 At the end, take a stance on what you think, have an opinion
 
 
Take a scientific issue and consider the social aspects of it
 
 Here are some examples
 Stem cells  Solar energy
 Poaching  Wind energy
 Nuclear power  Designer babies
 Fracking  Genetic engineering
 Plant-based diets  Other
 
Your project should include the following sections:
 Title
o Your inquiry should include a descriptive title
o Be sure to answer the how, what, and why of your inquiry
o Are you being specific, or precise

 Introduction
o This section will introduce your topic and cover and relevant background information. You
should also include references that support your topic.

 Why you chose the topic

- DISCUSSION:

 Introduce perspective 1
o Use evidence and examples from your research to describe the perspective
 Introduce perspective 2
o Use evidence and examples from your research to describe the perspective
 Introduce perspective 3, 4, etc.,
o Use evidence and examples from your research to describe the perspective

- CONCLUSION:

 Identify/state your own personal opinion


o Knowing what you know now, what do you think?
o Did your opinion change as you’ve researched this/learned more?

Your conclusion should include a summary of your inquiry, suggestions about what you would like to
research in the future, and a concluding statement proving your point, if your inquiry requires it.

- REFERENCES:

 Make an annotated bibliography (APA)


o Ms. Berry will give a lesson on how to do this properly
o Citation with a couple of sentences about what the source is about and why it was picked
 Minimum of 4 sources
 Images:
o Be sure to include URL of any images you use in your presentation by adding a caption to
the image. ( The caption is the URL of the image)
o Right click image, copy link address
