What is the first word of II Timothy?

Paul.

It says in II Timothy 1:1, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of

God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus."

Paul is very encouraging in his letters to Timothy.

 Who is Timothy's grandmother?

Lois.

It says in II Timothy 1:5, "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned

faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy
mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also."

The name Lois means "more desirable."

 Which house does Paul say the Lord should have mercy on?

the house of Onesiphoras.

It says in II Timothy 1:16, "The Lord give mercy unto the house of
Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain."
The name Onesiphoras means "profit bearing". This was a Christian in
Ephesians who sought to find out where Paul was when Paul was
imprisoned.

The other names were completely fabricated.

 Who does the writer say Jesus Christ is "the seed of"?

David.

It says in II Timothy 2:8, "Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of

David was raised from the dead according to my gospel."

"The seed of David" is an expression meaning that Jesus' lineage can be

traced back to King David.

 What does Paul say to "study to show thyself"?

approved unto God.

It says in II Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a

workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth."

Some churches have a youth group called AWANA (which stands for
Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) and this is the key verse of this
club, and the verse that gave AWANA its name.

The verse talks about the importance of studying God's Word.

 How does Paul describe the last days?

perilous.

It says in II Timothy 3:1, "This know also, that in the last days perilous
times shall come. "

If one continues to read chapter 3 of II Timothy, Paul goes on to explain

why the last days will be perilous times.

 According to II Timothy, who withstood Moses?

Jannes and Jambres.

It says in II Timothy 3:8, "Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses,

so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate
concerning the faith."

The Holman Illustrated Pocket Dictionary says that Jannes and Jambres
were men who opposed Moses and Aaron. Their names do not appear in
the Old Testament itself, but scholars believe that they were some of the
magicians who sought to mimic the miracles performed in Egypt.

 What does Paul say people will turn their ears away from?

the truth.

It says in II Timothy 4:4, "And they shall turn away their ears from the
truth, and shall be turned unto fables."

Paul is still talking about the end times in this verse.

 Who does Paul say is with him?

Luke.

It says in II Timothy 4:11, "Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring
him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry."

Luke was a physician and the author of one of the Gospels.

 What is Alexander's profession?

coppersmith.

It says in II Timothy 4:14, "Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil:

the Lord reward him according to his works."
