EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
- Briefly discuss what the whole proposal is about.

INTRODUCTION
The agriculture industry plays a vital role especially this time of pandemic. At this time, we need to
keep up with the increasing need for healthy food. Healthy foods such as vegetables that can help us
strengthen our body to prevent various diseases. But sometimes nutritious foods like vegetables are
detrimental to our health. Due to the increasing demand for food, farmers use synthetic chemicals such as

synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to increase their yield and ensure its quality. This synthetic chemical is
harmful to us because it can contaminate food which is harmful to our health when eaten. Farmers who also
apply these synthetic chemicals can be harmed if they do not have adequate personal protective equipment
(PPE) and adequate knowledge of its use. High levels of nitrates and nitrites in synthetic chemical may
cause some disease like haemoglobin disorders, Alzheimer's disease and diabetes mellitus. This synthetic
chemical is also able to cause various environmental issues such as soil, water and air contamination and
also can contribute to climate change and global warming. Nitrogen fertilizers are incredibly efficient, but
they make climate change a lot worse. Nitrous oxide (N2O) (more commonly known as laughing gas) is a
powerful contributor to global warming. It is 265 times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere
than carbon dioxide and depletes our ozone layer. With this, honing the active participation of students
through a functional school project will enable to contribute in sustaining healthy food security and safe
environment. Therefore, a project entitled “FeelHealth: Healthy Farming for Healthy Living” is
conceptualized.
This project will focus on establishing organic/urban/integrated school garden with 3,000 sq. meter
with focused commodity like Eggplant, Bitter gourd, Tomato, Bottle gourd, String bean, Hot pepper, Upland
water spinach, Cabbage, Lettuce, onion, Squash and different herbal plants. The project will focused on
raising these crops organically, so instead of synthetic chemicals, they will use organic fertilizer such as
vermicompost and various organic concoctions. The project will also integrate vermiculture as a source of
organic fertilizer and will also use various recycled materials and raw materials for planting such as plastic
bottles, sacks and banana leaves. In support of the urban gardening project of BigFaith PRMSU Botolan.

Rationale: To keep up with the increasing need for healthy food, communities through a functional
organization should be enabled to contribute in food production. This will ensure food availability in
the table while promoting organic and integrated farming, urban gardening and sustaining food
security.
