The DSMV use the categorical model, that personality disorders are qualitatively distinct
clinical syndromes. An alternative to the categorical approach is the dimensional approach,
that traits and symptoms are considered on a continuum, based on statistical analysis.
These personalities of cluster A are related to the field of psychosis according to the
psychoanalytic nosographic perspective.
Individuals with antisocial personality disorder often violate the law, becoming criminals.
They may lie, behave violently or impulsively, and have problems with drug and alcohol use,
and frequently in acting out.
