3) In a World where literature is prohibited and critical thought is discouraged, Clarisse starts

making Montag ask himself questions he has never thinked of before. This way, a
considered unusual curiosity was awakened in Montag who began to make deep reflections
about his life and that of others. This eventually led to a growing interest in books.
4) Mildred wife is depicted in the first few pages as either suicidal or completely unconsious
of her own actions (the former being the most probable), this is shown thorughout the part
where she drank a whole jar of sleeping pills. Later on, she is depicted as addicted to her
imaginary “family” whom she sees on three big TV´s which are quite expensive. In contrast,
Clarisse proves to be quite a happy seventeen year old girl, full of love and curiosity for the
outside world rather than for just some TVs.
5) Perhaps he was just in a big shock after finding out her wife attempted to commit suicide,
but Montag’s reaction to this particular scene is a mere “shriek” wich was overshadowed by
the noisy presnece of more than a dozen of “jet-bombs” to what he felt that “the starts had
been pulverized by the sound of the black jets''. Moreover, Montag’s lack of reaction is later
worsened by the following phrase: “that was his idiot thought (talking about the jets) as he
stood shivering in the dark”. Whether he was, as mentioned, in either a state of shock or just
showed himself indifferent to the situation is debatable however, what isn't is his nonexistent
love towards his wife, proven on multiple occasions throughout the book.
6) She is addicted to them to the point where sometimes she isn’t aware of reality anymore.
She even talks with this “family'' on the TV which would seem as a symptom of a mental
illness rather than anything else.
7) Clarisse sees something special in Montag, as she mentions that people in his profession
don’t usually stop to talk with girls like her. Montag
8) He suspects that someone in the station introduced his chemical complex into the hound
so that it may attack him.
