BSED Social Studies II
Lesson 6 – Principles and Philosophy of Philippine Education
Activity 1:
Pursuant to the policy on access to education, no learner is denied of enrollment in any public school.
However, this policy causes problems on lack of classrooms, overcrowding of learners and
insufficient instructional materials, among others. Does this mean that focusing on access may
hinder quality education? How could the government maintain a good mix of access and quality
education is schools?

The policy about about no learner is denied of enrollment is a good policy that our country has. Yes it causes many problem in our country

such as lack of classrooms, overcrowding of learners and insufficient instructional materials I think those problem does not qualify that we
should hinder the access on education. Even if we have those problems students will eventually have quality education through different effort
of their teachers and schools. Yes they lack on classroom, they will just have to organize the proper schedule on the available room. In terms of
the instructional materials teachers should just teach the students on how to share their belongings to other students for example is the book if
the school have few books they just have to construct a proper sharing on their every students for them to have equal access.
On the other hand, the only solution to avoid those kinds of problem is the proper uses of expenses on the Government budget for the
Department of Education. To maintain a good mix of access and quality education school we need to have a full support from the Government.
Government should have a higher budget for the Department of Education, DepEd is not just handling a simple thing in our country thus they
are handling the quality education of every child in our country, the future leaders and citizens of our country so they should not think simple
about the education that every educators sought to have. In conclusion, letting every child to have access on education is one of a good action
from our Government because all of us, whatever your social status is, rich or poor have an equal rights to receive a quality education we
deserve.

LESSON 7 – PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

ACTIVITY 1:
STUDY THE EXAMPLE OF TEACHER MACRINA’S PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION GIVEN BELOW.

MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION AS A GRADE SCHOOL TEACHER

I BELIEVE THAT EVERY CHILD

HAS A NATURAL INTEREST IN LEARNING AND IS CAPABLE OF LEARNING
IS AN EMBODIED SPIRIT
CAN BE INFLUENCED BUT NOT TOTALLY TOTALLY BY HIS/HER ENVIRONMENT
IS UNIQUE, SO COMPARING A CHILD TO OTHER CHILDREN HAS NO BASIS
DOES NOT HAVE AN EMPTY MIND, RATHER IS FULL OF IDEAS AND IT IS MY TASK TO DRAW OUT THESE IDEAS

I BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE UNCHANGING VALUES IN CHANGING TIMES AND THESE MUST BE PASSED ON TO EVERY CHILD BY MY MODELLING, VALUE
INCULCATION AND VALUE INTEGRATION IN MY LESSONS.

I BELIEVE THAT MY TASK AS A TEACHER IS TO FACILITATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF EVERY CHILD TO THE OPTIMUM AND TO THE MAXIMUM BY:

REACHING OUT TO ALL CHILDREN WITHOUT BIAS AND PREJUDICE TOWARDS THE “LEAST” OF THE CHILDREN
MAKING EVERY CHILD FEEL GOOD AND CONFIDENT ABOUT HIMSELF/HERSELF THROUGH HIS/HER EXPERIENCES OF SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM
HELPING EVERY CHILD MASTER THE BASIC SKILLS OF READING, COMMUNICATING IN ORAL AND WRITTEN FORM, ARITHMETIC AND COMPUTER
SKILLS
TEACHING MY SUBJECT MATTER WITH MASTERY SO THAT EVERY CHILD WILL USE HIS/HER BASIC SKILLS TO CONTINUE ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND VALUES FOR HIM/HER TO GO BEYOND BASIC LITERACY AND BASIC NUMERACY
INCULCATING OR INTEGRATING THE UNCHANGING VALUES OF RESPECT, HONESTY, LOVE AND CARE FOR OTHER REGARDLESS OF RACE, ETHNICITY,
NATIONALITY, APPEARANCE AND ECONOMIC STATUS IN MY LESSONS
CONSISTENTLY PRACTICING THESE VALUES TO SERVE AS MODEL FOR EVERY CHILD
STRENGTHENING THE VALUE FORMATION OF EVERY CHILD THROUGH “HANDS-ON-MINDS-ON-HEARTS-ON” EXPERIENCES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE IN
THE CLASSROOM
PROVIDING EVERY CHILD ACTIVITIES MEANT TO DEVELOP THE BODY, THE MIND AND THE SPIRIT
TEACHING NOT ONLY WHAT TO LEARN BUT MORE IMPORTANT HOW TO LEARN

ANALYZE THE GIVEN EXAMPLE IN YOUR SMALL GROUPS, THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

1. WHAT ARE TEACHER MACRINA’S CONCEPT/S OF THE LEARNER?

TEACHER MARINA'S CONCEPT OF THE LEARNER IS AN ADMIRABLE CONCEPTS THAT I AS A FUTURE EDUCATOR WANTS TO ALSO WITNESS IN EVERY
STUDENTS. HER CONCEPTS DESCRIBE HOW ADORABLE A YOUNG LEARNER IS. SHE DESCRIBE THEIR ADMIRABLE UNIQUE TALENT AND THE STUDENTS
ABILITY TO KNOW WHAT THEY SHOULD FOLLOW AND AVOID IN THEIR ENVIRONMENT. LASTLY HER CONCEPT'S STATES HOW A YOUNG LEARNERS ARE
ALREADY EQUIPPED WITH A CREATIVE IDEA THAT WILL SURELY BENIFIT THEIR CHILDHOOD.

2. WHO, ACCORDING TO TEACHER MACRINA’S PHILOSOPHY, IS THE GOOD AND EDUCATED PERSON?

TEACHER MARINA'S PHILOSOPHY DID NOT CLEARLY STATED WHO IS THE GOOD AND EDUCATED PERSON BUT BASED ON HER PHILOSOPHY I CAN
SAY THAT I CAN CATEGORIZE TEACHER MARINA AS A GOOD AND EDUCATED PERSON. TEACHER MARINA IS AN ADMIRABLE TEACHER THROUGH HER
CRITICAL ANALYZING ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EVERY LEARNER AND THE THINGS SHE SHOULD FOCUSES ON DIONG IN ORDER TO UTILIZES MORE THE
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF EVERY LEARNER. SHE IS GOOD BECAUSE SHE SEES THE GOODNESS IN EVERY STUDENTS AND AN EDUCATED PERSON BECAUSE
SHE CRITICALLY RECOGNIZED WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT METHODS SHE SHOULD DO IN ORDER TO FULLY UNLEASHED THE SLEEPING ABILITIES IN EVERY
LEARNER.

3. WHAT IS THE TEACHER’ CONCEPT ON VALUES?

TEACHER MARINA STATED THE EXISTENCE OF AN UNCHANGING VALUES IN CHAING TIMES. AS OUR WORLD CONTINUE TO EVOLVE CHANGES IS
NOT A SURPRISING THING ANYMORE AND CHANGES IN THE WAY WE LIVE SO WE SHOULD EVALUATING THE POSTIVE AND NEGATIVE EFFECT OF IT. SHE
ALSO STATED THAT TO PASSED ON THE VALUES, AN EDUCATOR SHOULD DO DIFFERENT STRATEGIES THAT ARE EFFECTIVE ENOUGH TO GUIDE STUDENTS
NOT TO FORGET.
Lesson 8 – Becoming and Remaining a Professional
Teacher

Activity 1:

Do you agree that the quality of teachers in the country is dependent on the kind of formation that they
have during their pre-service training? Why?

The quality of teachers is the basis on the the kind of formation that they gained during their pre-service
training. It is because pre-service training will provide the training on how to be a good teacher by giving the aspirant
teachers different assessments and knowledge on how to be a good educator. In addition, whatever their qualities as an
educator in the future will come from their struggles, their late night answering tasks or assignment and how they work
hard to achieve the profession they hope to have. Also, we all know that According to CHED Memorandum No. 30, s2004,
quality pre-service teacher is a key factor in quality Philippine education. From that statement, we can clearly see how the
quality pre-service teacher affect the outcome of not just the characteristic of the future educators but also the future of
the Philippine education.

Activity 2:

A teacher applicant submitted himself/herself for evaluation ad obtained a rating of 69.25. Can his or
her name be included in the Registry of Qualified Applicants (RQA)?

According to DepEd Order No.22, s2015, if an teacher applicant submitted himself/herself for evaluation and
obtained a rating of 69.25 her/his name will not be included on the Registry of Qualified Applicants. It is because an
applicant should have a score of 70 above to passed and to be included on the Registry of Qualified Applicants. In
conclusion, any applicant who will have 69 and below rating did not passed the evaluation and needs to redo his/her
exam.

Lesson 9 – Qualities of a Teacher

Activity 1:

If you were to be asked, what teacher qualities are strong and weak in our present day teachers? Get the
highest 3. What can be done to improve them? Cite at least 3 and justify them.

Through the years I was in school, I think every teachers has different and unique characteristics. The teacher's strong
qualities are passionate, loving and intelligent person. It is their strong qualities because being a passionate individual is
something that can not gain simply, especially nowadays that struggles and problems are everywhere. Their passion will make them
a powerful enough to withstand every challenges in teaching they have. Also is loving, we all know how important love is , it is the
strong mysterious feeling that will justify our every action in our everyday life. Love will surely improve their teaching skills,
because they love to teach, love their students and love the lessons they will teach, teachers will just eventually enjoy every day they
teach and will not recognize that what they are doing is just a common job to have salary because teaching can also be their other
bonding and happiness in their life. Lastly I think the strong qualities of a teacher is his/her intelligent. Teachers are educator, an
educator that will hone every students in their fullest capabilities and in order to do that teachers should also have proper education
to have the right to teach and guide their every students.

In addition, I think their weak qualities are poor time management, lack of patience and lack of will to teach.

Teachers should maintain a proper time management because of the numbers of their students. They should not let their students
be affected on their poor time management, yes there are many lessons that are need to be discuss but teachers should think that
students should also have other important lessons from their other subjects that they struggle to complete. Teachers should also
maintain their composure at all times, they should not let their anger get in their teaching because it will only bring fear from their
students. Fear is a negative emotion that a teachers should not let students to feel towards them because education should be more
on enjoyable time of their childhood not something that they are afraid of. Lastly is their lack of will to teach and educate their
students. Teachers should maintain and grow their will power because it is something that every student should feel towards their

teacher in order for them to develop their will to study and accept every lessons and knowledge they should learn.

PERFORMANCE TASK 9

Conduct an interview of the most loved teacher qualities from among your classmates. Get the 5
highest responses and place them in the table below.

Lesson 10 – Teaching as a Vocation, Mission and Profession

Activity 1: Situational Analysis

As a teacher, what will you do on the following situations:

1. You are assigned to teach in a remote, far flung area in Mindanao. Considering the geographical location
and condition of the place such as lack of electricity and water, absence of comfortable road and pavements
and near the war zone area of the government troops and Rebel groups, would you accept the offer to teach
there? Why or why not?

A teacher should not chose who they want to teach, a good teacher will teach every students that needs
proper education. It is their mission, to teach the students and help them to recognized the action they must do. And If I
will be assigned to teach in a remote, far flung area in Mindanao I will accept it. I will accept the offer to teach there
even if there are numerous of problem just by staying there. It is because that is a good teacher should do, I did not
study hard in my four year course just to ignore the students in the far flung area in Mindanao. I know what I have to
do so I will accept the offer, yes the offer means to sacrificed the peacefulness in my own home I will forever hunted by
the fact that I chose my own comfortability rather than helping numbers of students who needs my guidance and
knowledge in their lives.

2. You are an Education graduate, however, you were not able to pass the Licensure Examination for
Teachers (LET) yet. As a teacher, how would you continuously upgrade your knowledge and skills white
waiting for the next examination?

Every teacher should pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers(LET) and if I did not pass it, I will not
give up. I will broaden my knowledge in teaching, though I can not apply on the public school because I still don't have
my license I will find an opportunity in the private schools. Though private schools also have their qualifications when
hiring a teacher, I think they will accept me and give me a teaching job even if I did not pass the LET I am not saying
that it was alright to fail, what I mean is teaching in private school will gives me an opportunity and work experiences
that will help me utilize my knowledge to pass the exam the second time around.
PERFORMANCE TASK 10

and Commission on Higher Education. Is there anything common among the logos? Enumerate their
commonalities.

Philippine Association for Teacher Education

Department of Education

The logos of the Philippine Association for Teacher Education, Department of Education and
Commission on Higher Education have a distinctive colors that you will immediately see. All of them have
the colors from our Philippine Flag. The three logos have color blue and red. On the other hand the
Commission on Higher Education and Philippine Association for Teacher Education shared four colors
which are also the colors from our Philippine flag those are blue, red, yellow and white. Those three
colors are designed to recognized the Philippine Education, the reason why they are theme after by the
Philippine Flag. Also, it is to show the patriotism of every education staff person, patriotism that is one of
the things every schools promote for the future of our country.
Lesson 11 - Values Formation in Teaching

Activity 1: Stationer:

Do you believe that the child’s upbringing at home can be reflected inside the school? Why or why not?
What is the role of the teachers in strengthening the favorable values of the child? How will the values
of the teacher influence the values formation of his students?

One of the main reason or the explanation regarding the characteristics of a child is because of the
experiences he/she get from their home. I think child's upbringing at home can be reflected inside the school.
Every upbringing that the child have is something that cannot be change or remove easily and to determine
whether they are positive and negative thing teacher should reflect and analyze the effect of the child's action
towards the other children in order to give the guidance a students needs from their teacher. Teacher's role is to
guide their students to have a proper values that will not affect other people in a harmful way. On the other hand
teachers should also build or have different activities that will improve more their good values. And to fully
acquire a good value formation a teachers should be the one who will show a goods values to inspire their
students to do the same.
