BARBARA BUSH MIDDLE SCHOOL Item Shirts Acceptable Solid red, white, black or navy-blue, long or short sleeved:

NOT Acceptable or Allowed

T-shirts, collared Polostyle shirts, or hoodless sweatshirts Must overlap waistband by at least 4 Shirts longer than fingertip length must be tucked into pants or skirt Any shirt, sweater or hoodless sweatshirt worn over or under a standard shirt must be red, white, or navyblue Only shirts with Bush logos Worn as intended, i.e., shirt sleeves must be BOTH up or down Undershirts must be standard colors of red, white or navy-blue

No tank tops or sleeveless shirts Not longer than finger tips when extended down leg; no oversized or extra long shirts, including Tall-Ts No see-through, tight or revealing clothing, nor stomach, cleavage, or undergarments (including bra straps) exposed. Exposure during school is violation even if "covered up" afterward. No clothes worn backward No plunging or deep cut necklines

Pants, Capris

Navy-blue or khaki:

Fit at waist & crotch, worn at waist Properly hemmed, cuffed or stitched. Pants end at or above bottom of shoe's heel

No oversized, baggy, or saggy pants Not ripped, torn, frayed or cut-off No large outside pockets stitched to the outside of pants, such as cargo pants No pant legs pushed up under knee rather than down at ankles, folded up in large cuff or not "even" on both sides Pajama bottoms are not allowed

Skirts, Shorts

Navy-blue or khaki:

Fit & worn at waist Not shorter than 4" from top of knee, including highest point of slits

Not ripped, torn, frayed or cut-off Pulling down attire to meet length requirement standing still not acceptable if any movement causes attire to rise to a point above acceptable limit

Shorts no longer than knee

No spandex, nylon, oversized, baggy or saggy shorts.

Shoes & Socks

Soled footwear only Socks

Crew/knee high. Standard colors only

No house shoes, slippers, house shoes, sandals or flipflops No mismatched shoes or shoe laces

Head attire

Religious exceptions only

No hats, caps, or hoods inside building No head scarves, skull caps, sweatbands

Bandanas or items made of bandana patterns are forbidden & will be confiscated and not returned.

Sweaters/Jackets Hoodies

Standard solid colors only. No hood.

Hoodies are not allowed in the building.

No logos larger than 2" by 2".

Other

Belts must be worn within belt loops

Athletic uniforms that are temporarily issued to students are the property of the school & can only be worn during competition games or special recognition spirit days. Warm ups & jerseys are not intended to be worn during school day.

Nothing lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, or that promotes racist organizations, gangs, violence, death, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. No items inappropriate for inside, such as coats, jackets, hooded sweatshirts, gloves or sunglasses. These items must remain in lockers during school hours. Long trench-style coats or oversized bulky coats are prohibited on campus. No extreme or overly long jewelry, medallions larger than a quarter, multiple chains; no utility chains used as jewelry or attached to clothing for other purposes, such as securing

wallets. No items that could cause injury or be used as a weapon. Earrings may not be worn in the gym during athletic activities, including PE classes and team practices & games.

Students not compliant with dress code are choosing a Step 4 and are not allowed to attend class until a parent brings an appropriate change of clothes. Students with questionable dress code violations are sent to Administration where the final decision is made. Administrator decisions regarding appropriateness of items worn to school is final, including color, style & length of item. Grooming guidelines: 1. 2. 3. Hair must be clean, neat & natural looking, and a natural color. No unnaturally-colored streaks. Startling or unusual hairstyles are not permitted. Symbols, shapes, numbers, or letters may not be shaved or cut into hair or eyebrows. No "loose" items, i.e., combs, picks, pencils, or any item that could cause injury or be used as a weapon may be worn inserted into the hair. This includes glasses worn on top of the head. No lipstick, eye or facial make-up that is extreme or distracting (i.e. black lipstick, glitter, etc.). No items applied to facial area, tongue or any visible body area, such as safety pins, nose/eyebrow rings, spacers, decals, stickers, temporary tattoos, or decorative "stones." No writing on hands, arms, or facial area (except for religious reasons).

Grooming Policy/Dress Code PRINCIPAL IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY: The Board delegates to the principal the authority to make final determinations as to whether clothing or grooming is or is not within this policy. The ruling of the building principal regarding compliance or non-compliance with the Dress & Grooming Policy and corresponding consequences assigned for violation of this policy is final, and may not be appealed to the Superintendent, his/her designee, or the Board. After receiving community input and Board approval, Barbara Bush Middle School has implemented standardized dress for our students. This standardized dress code is in conjunction with the Grooming Policy/Dress Code of CFBISD. PARENT AND STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY: The parent and student shall be responsible for ensuring that the student is in compliance with all aspects of this policy during the time the student is on school premises during regular school hours. Items worn in violation of this policy may be takenup by a school official and returned according to campus policy. Failure by the student to correct dress or grooming violations at first request is considered insubordination and will result in disciplinary action.
