EMPOWERMENT TECH (QUARTER 1 – MODULE 3

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY (Performance #3)

Direction: Search the question “What are the causes and effects of COVID-19 vIrus?” using the different browser. Answer
the following:

a. Compare the content from the different websites

b. Determine the reliability of the source being visited

(What are the causes and effects of COVID-19 virus?)

Google Chrome:

Causes

Infection with the new coronavirus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2) causes
coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily among people, and more continues to be discovered over time about how
it spreads. Data has shown that it spreads mainly from person to person among those in close contact (within about 6
feet, or 2 meters). The virus spreads by respiratory droplets released when someone with the virus coughs, sneezes,
breathes, sings or talks. These droplets can be inhaled or land in the mouth, nose or eyes of a person nearby.

Effects

Although most people with COVID-19 have mild to moderate symptoms, the disease can cause severe medical
complications and lead to death in some people. Older adults or people with existing medical conditions are at greater
risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19.

Complications can include:

 Pneumonia and trouble breathing

 Organ failure in several organs

 Heart problems

 A severe lung condition that causes a low amount of oxygen to go through your bloodstream to your organs
(acute respiratory distress syndrome)

 Blood clots

 Acute kidney injury

 Additional viral and bacterial infection

Opera:

Causes

Coronaviruses are often found in bats, cats and camels. The viruses live in but do not infect the animals. Sometimes
these viruses then spread to different animal species. The viruses may change (mutate) as they transfer to other species.
Eventually, the virus can jump from animal species and begins to infect humans. In the case of COVID-19, the first people
infected in Wuhan, China are thought to have contracted the virus at a food market that sold meat, fish and live animals
– but they are still investigating. Although researchers don’t know exactly how people were infected, they already have
evidence that the virus can be spread directly from person to person through close contact.

Effects

 Trouble breathing.

 Persistent pain or pressure in your chest.

 New confusion.

 Inability to arouse (wake up from sleep).

 Bluish lips or face.

(A. Compare the content from the different websites)

There are similarities between the content of the web browsers, from the causes to the effects of the coronavirus.
There are also similarities with the websites that pops up when you type a question, perhaps because of Opera being
an alternative of Google Chrome. By using different websites to answer the question in the given task using both
browsers, as for google chrome (from: mayoclinic.org) the content from the website is complete, and easy to read,
and considering that it is a credible source in a reason that its URL ends with “.org” which is one e.g of credible
sources, while for Opera, (from: my.clevelandclinic.org), the content from the website is also brief, and
comprehensible, which also used a different style of words from the other website, but still conveys the same ideas as
for the first website.

( B. Determine the reliability of the source being visited)

Both sources visited can be considered reliable. As for the first source, which is from mayoclinic.org, it has a URL that
ends with “.org” which is considered as one for the features of a reliable source, and this website, Mayo Clinic is a
nonprofit organization committed to clinical practice, education and research, providing expert, whole-person care to
everyone who needs healing. As for the latter, the same as the first one, my.clevelandclinic.org ends with “.org”,
which is considered credible, and this website is provided by Cleveland Clinic to benefit patients, the general public
and healthcare professionals.
