2006 Blended Learning Programs
2006 Blended Learning Programs
IHRDC’s Blended Learning programs build performance competencies through a combination of traditional
and innovative learning methods. Lectures and discussions introduce important topics and provide
fundamental background knowledge, while mentor-guided e-Learning simulates on-the-job training. The e-
Learning portion, consists of individual pre-assessments and post-assessments for each major topic,
together with workshops where participants work in teams to complete simulated job assignments. For
each e-Learning section, a mentor introduces the workshop and coaches the teams through their
assignments. This coaching comes at critical times, and only as needed to enhance the learning experience
and help teams to avoid major mistakes. Program participants will have full electronic access prior to and
during the program to IPIMS.ep, IHRDC's extensive E&P e-Learning system.

APPLIED RESERVOIR ENGINEERING PRACTICE
July 17-August 4, 2006 – Boston, USA
Reservoir Engineering Fundamentals
Define key rock and fluid characteristics, understand procedures for collecting and analyzing rock and fluid samples and use published correlations to estimate
fluid properties; identify primary reservoir drive mechanisms, estimate original hydrocarbons in place using both volumetric and material balance methods;
contribute to the efforts of a multidisciplinary reservoir management team, based on a general knowledge of related disciplines
Reservoir Simulation
Define reservoir simulation objectives, establish model geometry and dimensions, assign flow equations and boundary conditions, compile input parameters;
develop finite-difference approximations to solve the flow equations, plan computer runs and interpret the results; learn to incorporate new data into the
reservoir model, and refine the model based on differences between predicted and actual reservoir behavior
Reservoir Characterization
Develop subsurface geological, petrophysical and sedimentological maps; refine the geological model of the reservoir based on existing and newly acquired
well log and core data, and establish flow units within the reservoir.
Reservoir Management
Apply economic evaluation methods, reservoir monitoring techniques and production control methods to the reservoir management process, with the goal of
optimizing field development strategies
FORMATION EVALUATION
Well Logging and Petrophysical Analysis
Select the appropriate open hole logging tools for a given application, and validate the quality of logging surveys; learn to use basic log interpretation
methods to determine formation characteristics, and combine log and core data to establish the distribution of petrophysical properties in the reservoir.
Well Test Analysis
Select candidate wells for testing and specify test objectives, review and acquire well test information, validate test data, prepare data for analysis, interpret
the pressure test and analyze production behavior.
