Ms. Boudreau

January 2023

This month we will be shifting from learning about informational text to

learning about fiction. We will start a new unit next week and learn about
folktales. Then, we will move onto learning about different versions of stories and
poems.

This is also an exciting time of year because we start learning to read! Your
child has a book bag, with books at their reading level to practice at home. It will
be coming home this week! Be sure to see the paperwork inside for more info!

Mrs. Pereira and I would like to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness and
generosity during the holiday season! Happy New Year!
What’s happening in Fundations:

Fundations is getting exciting as we move from letter sounds to sounding out

words! Continue to practice tapping out sounds and blending words. We are
focusing on upper case letters and practicing their formation. Students continue
to be motivated to learn with Mama Owl and Baby Owl! Thank you for the
reinforcement at home!

What Reading & Writing Skills are being practiced in myView

Please continue to work on cvc words (consonant, vowel, consonant) and reading
to your child daily. We also continue to work on rhyming. In writing, we are
working on writing a sentence or two and writing all the sounds we hear in words.
Please continue to practice these skills at home. Remember to use your sound map.

What Math Skills are being practiced?

We continue with expanding our number sense. We sing many songs that
reinforce these skills. We have been working with 10 and 20 frames to help us
combine numbers to 10 and from 10 to 20. We work on simple addition and
continue to reinforce shapes. Additionally, we have been working on the correct
formation of numbers. We continue to work on ST Math on the ipads each day!

-Reminders: Please ensure your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves each day.
LABEL EACH ITEM as it makes it easier to find its owner!!!

-Please send a note each time your child has a different person picking them up for
dismissal, even if they are on the list. Thank you as it helps me kow who I am
looking for each day. :) !
