SUPERMAN AND LOIS TV SERIES SEASON 3

BY
JOSHUA FOX

Clark is set to become a reporter again in Superman & Lois season 3, and
that's a positive because of what it can bring to the show going forward.
Superman & Lois season 3 is set to bring Clark Kent back to his reporter roots,
and that’s a great sign for the show. From the onset of the series, Superman &
Lois has done a multitude of things to change around a lot of the hallmarks of
the Superman mythos, specifically regarding Clark’s life. For example, in
addition to taking him and his family out of Metropolis and putting them in
Smallville, Clark has spent the show working as the football coach at Jordan
and Jonathan’s school as opposed to being a journalist, as he’s known to be in
most Superman stories.
The change in Clark’s career was a big one for Superman & Lois, but it’s one
that’s set to be changed for season 3. According to a recent press release,
Superman & Lois season 3 will see Clark working together with Lois at the
Smallville Gazette, which, up until now, was only Lois’ place of work (via TV
Line). This change in the story works to bring Clark back to his roots as a
reporter, and that’s good for the show.

More Opportunities For Lois & Clark On Screen Together

One of the most important things being gained from Superman & Lois making
Clark a reporter again is that it allows for more opportunities for Lois and Clark
to be on screen together. One of the highlights of Superman & Lois has always
been how the strength of Lois and Clark’s relationship, especially compared to
other couples in The CW's Arrowverse and Arrow verse-adjacent shows. Every
scene in which they get to act like a couple excellently highlights the bond they
have with each other, but with the two of them often being separated due to
their different careers and Clark’s Superman activities, there isn’t always a lot of
time for that to be explored.

Naturally, all of that can be fixed by Clark becoming a reporter again in season
3. With Lois and Clark now working in the same field again, Superman & Lois
will no longer have to deal with repeatedly splitting them apart as it did in
previous seasons since now there’s a perfect excuse for them to be around
each other all the time. The change does run the risk of having Superman
overshadow Lois in season 3, but the comics and other Superman media have
typically maintained Lois’ agency when they’re both reporters, so there’s no
reason to think it wouldn’t be the same for Superman & Lois.

Superman Can Keep Up With Events The Way He Did In The Comics

Another benefit of Clark becoming a reporter again in Superman & Lois is that
the show can bring back Superman’s classic way of keeping up with current
events. In the early years of the Superman franchise, Clark’s main reasoning for
working at the Daily Planet was that he thought that working at a major news
outlet would make it easier for him to learn about crises for Superman to stop as
soon as they happen. As Clark’s powers and resources became more
developed over the years, however, this aspect stopped being brought up in
more modern Superman stories, Superman & Lois, included.

Superman & Lois might not have used that classic element of DC Comics'
Superman before, but with Clark set to be a reporter again, there’s a perfect
chance for the show to start using it. Granted, the show is another Superman
story where Clark’s power and resources don’t necessitate that, but it would still
be a fun way of fleshing out the show’s change to its status quo that would be
perfectly in line with the lighthearted tone of the show. Regardless, with
Superman & Lois set to return on March 14, 2023, it won’t take that long to see
what the show plans on doing with Clark’s new lifestyle.

Superman & Lois' season 3 villain actor Chad Coleman says fans may end up
rooting for his take on DC Comics antagonist Bruno Mannheim.

Superman & Lois season 3 villain actor Chad Coleman says that fans may
actually root for Bruno Mannheim. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are getting a new
threat in Superman & Lois season 3, and a rather grounded one this time
around. After taking on Ally Allston, a.k.a. Parasite, in the latest season, Bruno,
a.k.a. the Intergang leader, is coming into play, having been name-dropped in
the Superman & Lois season 2 finale as being responsible for killing this Earth's
John Henry Irons. Whether or not the Intergang organization itself will play a
large role in the new season remains to be seen.

Coleman, who was cast as Bruno in September, is no stranger to the

Arrowverse, having already appeared in Arrow season 5 as Tobias Church.
With Superman & Lois taking place on a different Earth in the Arrowverse, it's a
clean slate for Coleman as he portrays the DC foe. In an interview with Fox 5
Atlanta, The Walking Dead alum spoke about joining The CW drama as another
supervillain. Unlike Tobias, Coleman looks at Bruno as someone who fans may
or may not root for in Superman & Lois season 3. Coleman said the following
about Bruno's role in Superman & Lois season 3:

I have a pretty darn good resume, so to say the least, this is the best role for me
that I've ever had. The scale of this guy. Honestly, the scale of this man is
incredible. He's not to be messed with. This is gonna be a thrill ride. Love him,
hate him, but it's not the typical villain. He's very layered. And you root for this
man because he makes a lot of sense, and he's done a lot of amazing things to
transform South Metropolis and so you just get to take this thrill ride.

What We Know About Superman & Lois Season 3 So Far

While not a lot has been revealed about Superman & Lois season 3, a few key
details have been disclosed over the last few months. According to The CW,
Coleman's Bruno will be known to Metropolis "as a local hero, a philanthropist
who’s revived the struggling neighborhoods of the city.” After having
investigated Bruno for years, Lois will work to prove that he "is a career criminal
and the head of the notorious organization Intergang," but thanks to new leads,
Lois will apparently be closer to exposing Bruno. Superman & Lois season 3 will
premiere on Wednesday, March 14, followed by the Gotham Knights series
premiere.
Even though it's not a new character, Jonathan Kent will have a different actor
playing him this season. Jordan Elsass exited the Arrowverse drama at the end
of season 2, forcing Superman & Lois in having to recast the part. Michael
Bishop was officially cast earlier in the year and will make his debut in the
season 3 premiere. Lois won't be the only one investigating Bruno, as John
Henry Irons will also look into him to find out why his doppelgänger was
murdered. Lois and Clark will also be working together as reporters following
the Man of Steel getting hired at the Smallville Gazette, while also seeing
Jordan dealing with having a superhero-identity and what that really means.

The biggest question surrounding Superman & Lois at the moment is whether
or not the series will be back after season 3. 2022 was a rough year for the
Arrowverse as The CW canceled several shows, leaving only The Flash and
Superman & Lois for 2023. With the new regime behind The CW, the network
wants to target a different demographic, and the DC brand may not have a large
role in its strategy. Given the unclear future of the Arrowverse on The CW, time

Superman & Lois season three will debut on the CW in March 2023, and the
show's timeframe is very close to when season two ended.
The CW's Superman & Lois will continue its story in season three on March 14,
2023, but little is yet known about when the story will pick back up in-world. On
Superman & Lois, Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) does his best to maintain his life
as the Man of Steel while raising his family in his hometown of Smallville. Clark
not only has to battle super-powered villains like Ally Allston, a.k.a. Parasite
(Rya Kihlstedt), but also faces a new challenge when his teenage son Jordan
(Alex Garfin) develops his own Kryptonian powers.

Superman & Lois season two concluded with Clark defeating Ally and saving
Earth, with Clark also establishing a new Fortress of Solitude in the arctic.
Additionally, Superman & Lois season 3's villains will include Intergang leader
Bruno Mannheim (Chad L. Coleman) and numerous others. It also seems Clark
has had little time to breathe since the ending of Superman & Lois season 2.

One Week After Battle With Ally Allston

Per TV Line, Superman & Lois season 3 will take place just one week after the
end of season 2. In that time, Clark has joined his wife Lois Lane (Elizabeth
Tulloch) in working at the Smallville Gazette. Such a short time gap from the
end of season two indicates the impact Clark's battle with Ally could have on
Superman & Lois season 3.

Superman stopping Earth from merging with the Bizarro world is still going to be
a fresh event, and more importantly, it could hint at Ally Allston returning from
her defeat in season three. After Superman separates Ally from his Bizarro self,
both Allys are imprisoned but still alive. A surprise appearance by Ally re-
merged with her alternate self would greatly increase the stakes of Superman &
Lois season 3, especially with the villain challenges Clark is already facing.

Where Are All The Characters At When We See Them

In Superman & Lois season 3, Lois will reportedly uncover a devious new
enemy through her work at the Smallville Gazette, while her co-worker Chrissy
(Sofia Hasmik) will be in a new romance. Smallville's mayor Lana Lang
(Emanuelle Chriqui) will also still be working out her relationship with her ex-
husband Kyle (Erik Valdez), while their daughter Sarah (Inde Navarrette) will
navigate new ground after learning about Jordan Kent's still developing powers.
Additionally, Lois's father, General Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh), will have come out
of retirement and is working for the Department of Defense once more.

Superman & Lois season 3 will also further explore Clark's multiversal ally John
Henry Irons (Wolé Parks), learning of his doppelganger's murder. Meanwhile,
Jordan and his brother Jonathan (Michael Bishop, replacing Jordan Elsass) will
face their own new challenges as brothers approaching adulthood. While much
still remains unrevealed about Superman & Lois season three, it looks set to
potentially be the show's most emotional and action-packed season yet.
December 15, 2022 The CW has released a couple of official photos from the
first episode of Season 3 of “Superman & Lois,” including our first official look at
Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent.

With the first half of filming done for the new season, the cast and crew are
currently on a short break over the holiday season, and will return to film the
second half of Season 3 early in the new year.
The official synopsis for the new season has also been released:

The third season of Superman & Lois opens weeks after Superman’s blowout
defeat of Ally Allston. Clark (Hoechlin) and Lois (Tulloch) now are working at the
Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents’ romantic
bliss only shines a light on how isolating “the secret” can be, as Chrissy (Sofia
Hasmik) struggles to balance a new love interest and her friendship with Lois.
However, Lois’ own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover
assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family
forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a
villain this merciless, even that might not be enough.

Meanwhile, the Kent boys find themselves being pulled in opposite directions as
Jordan (Alex Garfin) discovers what a superhero-identity really means and
Jonathan (Michael Bishop) searches for purpose beyond the football field. Amid
all this upheaval, John Henry (Wolé Parks) is haunted by his doppelgänger’s
past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie (Tayler Buck).
Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui) and Kyle (Erik Valdez) redefine their family
post-separation, while Sarah (Inde Navarrette) explores what the future holds
for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his powers. Having
learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work with Superman,
General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh) reclaims his post at the Department of
Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.

Rumors of Lex Luthor being introduced in Season 3 of “Superman & Lois”

appear to be true, with Jon Cryer (who played the role on the “Supergirl” TV
series) confirming that he was informed that the show would be casting another
actor in the role for this TV series.

Jon Cryer wrote on Twitter, “For the record, the folks at DC were very cool and
gave me a heads up that the show was going a different way with character
before they started looking. Most of the time, actors learn about this stuff when
it comes out in the trades. I’m grateful they were classy about it.”

“Would’ve been fun. But l’m not sure I could’ve played Lex on Superman & Lois
even if they wanted to do this. I’m supposed to start shooting a new series for
NBC in February.”
Chad L. Coleman spoke to the Good Day Sacramento show to talk about his
role as Bruno Mannheim in the upcoming third season, saying it’s the most
amazing role he’s ever played.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… the long-awaited premiere date for Superman &
Lois‘ third season!

Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch’s titular supercouple will return to The CW on
Tuesday, March 14 at 8/7c, TVLine has learned. Superman & Lois‘ third season
premiere will be followed by the series premiere of Gotham Knights at 9 pm.

The third season of Superman & Lois will find the Man of Steel facing off
against Intergang head Bruno Manheim (played by The Orville’s Chad L.
Coleman). Additionally, Australian actor Michael Bishop will step into the role of
Jonathan Kent, following the sudden departure of Jordan Elsass.

The new season “opens weeks after Superman’s blowout defeat of Ally Allston,”
according to the official description. “Clark and Lois are now working at the
Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents’ romantic
bliss only shines a light on how isolating “the secret” can be, as Chrissy

Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores
what the future holds for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his
powers. Having learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work
with Superman, General Samuel Lane reclaims his post at the Department of

Gotham Knights Release DateMeanwhile over on Gotham Knights, “Batman is

dead, and a powder keg has ignited Gotham City without the Dark Knight to
protect it,” per The CW’s official description. “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s
murder, his adopted son Turner Hayes is framed for killing the Caped Crusader,
along with the children of some of Batman’s enemies: Duela, an unpredictable
fighter and skilled thief who was born in Arkham Asylum and abandoned by her
father, Harper Row, a streetwise and acerbic engineer who can fix anything,
and her brother Cullen Row, a clever transgender teen who is tired of being
polite and agreeable. With the charismatic and hard-charging District Attorney
Harvey Dent and the GCPD hot on their trail, Turner will rely on allies including
his best friend and formidable coder Stephanie Brown, and unlikely Batman
sidekick Carrie Kelley. But our Knights will soon learn there is a larger, more
nefarious force at work within Gotham City. This team of mismatched fugitives
must band together to become its next generation of saviors known as the
Gotham Knights.”

“The new season of The CW’s biggest show Superman & Lois alongside our
most exciting new series Gotham Knights will make Tuesdays a can’t-miss night
of action,” says CW President Brad Schwartz. “With the iconic characters and
gritty streets that everyone knows, fans will experience the best season yet of
Superman & Lois and be introduced to a hunted group of crime fighters out for
vengeance, following in Batman’s footsteps on Gotham Knights.”

James Gunn and Peter Safran's plan for the DC Universe looks like it could be
big enough to accommodate Superman & Lois well beyond Season 3.

Superman & Lois Could Save the Arrowverse - If It Can Be Saved

James Gunn recently confirmed, via Twitter, that while the connected DC
Universe for which he and partner Peter Safran are currently creating a ten-year
plan will span film, TV, animation and games, standalone DC projects will also
continue in some capacity. Previous announcements have made clear that
these include the upcoming sequels to both Joker and The Batman. Less clear
is what any of this might mean for The CW's last DC holdout, Superman & Lois.

Currently shooting its third season, Superman & Lois is popular with critics and
fans alike, but events over the last year — including Nexstar's purchase of The
CW, Henry Cavill's return as the DCU's big screen Superman, and the
cancelation of the rest of The CW's DC output — don’t bode well for the series'
long-term prospects. On the other hand, Justice U's continued development and
Gotham Knights' series order suggest that the network isn't quite done with DC.
This opens the door for Superman & Lois to continue as another standalone
project or as part of the multiversal tapestry that could make up Gunn's new
DCU.

Superman & Lois Is Already DC TV's Best Standalone Property

Clark as Superman, Lois, Jon, and Jordan staring at a person standing in front
of them - Superman & Lois
Superman & Lois stands apart from most of The CW's other DC-based series. It
uses a different visual style, its writing and acting are more naturalistic and,
perhaps most importantly, it exists in a separate universe. The shows that took
place in the Arrowverse, while great, are all tied together. Saving one means
carrying on the baggage of a shared, complex continuity. Superman & Lois
comes with no such burden.

Like The Batman, Superman & Lois doesn't need to spend time servicing a
larger continuity. It has the freedom to drill down and explore the essence of the
iconic characters at its core. For The Batman, this means highlighting The Dark
Knight's pulp detective roots, and for Superman & Lois it means leaning into the
Man of Steel's gentle compassion. This ability to focus on deft characterization
and compelling storytelling rather than cross-promotion and contributing to an
overarching metanarrative makes Superman & Lois a perfect fit for DC's limited
stable of standalone projects.

An Overarching DCU Story Involving the Multiverse Could Include Superman &
Lois

James Gunn and Peter Safran have also said that their ten-year plan for DC
includes a single giant story that ties everything together. While they haven't
given any hints as to what that story might be, it wouldn't be unreasonable to
guess that they are building toward an adaptation of what is arguably the
biggest story in DC Comics history: Crisis on Infinite Earths. If this is, indeed,
the case, the newly renamed DCU may actually end up being a DCM, or DC
Multiverse.

As the title would suggest, Crisis on Infinite Earths involved the myriad parallel
universes that made up the DC Comics multiverse. A successful film adaptation
of that story would, therefore, requires DC Studios to first establish its own
version of this concept. If the DCU remains focused on a single universe,
audiences are unlikely to care about any of the other worlds a movie version of
the Anti-Monitor might threaten. Conversely, a multiverse comprising already
beloved properties comes with built-in fans, creates real stakes and gives DC
the opportunity to top Marvel's massive Infinity Saga.

Parallel Earths have been part of Superman & Lois from the beginning. John
Henry and Natalie Irons come from a world that appears to have died during the
Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," and Bizarro World was a primary focus
of Season 2. It wouldn't be a stretch to position all of those worlds within the
context of the bigger DC Multiverse. If Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh and Tom
Welling can coexist as different versions of Superman in a single episode of
television, there’s no reason Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill can't do the same
across a ten-year epic.

Beyond Season 3, the future of Superman & Lois is very much in the air, but the
beauty of James Gunn and Peter Safran's plan, so far as they've revealed it, is
its flexibility. It gives fans both shared continuity and standalone stories, either
of which could play to the many strengths of Superman & Lois. The only
question now is whether The CW's new owners will realize this in time.

“Superman & Lois” Season 3 Premiere Date

December 1, 2022

According to SpoilerTV.com, Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” will premiere on

The CW on January 18, 2023.

Interestingly, January 18 is a Wednesday, with “Superman & Lois” having aired

on Tuesday nights previously.

With a total of 15 episodes scheduled, Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” will

introduce Chad L. Coleman as Bruno Mannheim, the head of Intergang as the
main villain.

“Bruno Mannheim is known to most of Metropolis as a local hero, a

philanthropist who’s revived the struggling neighborhoods of the city. For years,
Lois Lane has worked to prove that behind that facade is a career criminal and
the head of the notorious organization Intergang. With some new leads, she
might be closer than ever.”
The upcoming new season will also give us our first proper look at Michael
Bishop as Jonathan Kent, who comes in to replace Jordan Elsass who stepped
down from the role for personal reasons.

Superman & Lois season 1 set a firm limit on how powerful Jordan Kent could
become in the series. Has the show already broken that promise?

Superman & Lois may have already broken its promise about Jordan’s power
level in the CW series. Played by Alex Garfin, Clark and Lois’ super-powered
son has accomplished some impressive feats in just two seasons. In fact, he
already has a handle on most of his Kryptonian powers.

How far Jordan has come in Superman & Lois is a sign that he may have
already exceeded the limit set for him in a season 1 episode. It was established
early on in the first season that Jordan’s capabilities would never come close to
his father’s. According to Jor-El’s calculations, Jordan would never acquire
more than one-hundredth of Clark’s power. This set a rather low ceiling for
Jordan, yet somehow he seemingly has almost all of Clark’s abilities, plus he
was strong enough to physically challenge Tal-Rho in season 2. By all
indications, Jordan is already significantly more powerful than season 1
suggested could ever be possible.

Can Jordan Become As Strong As Superman?

While Alex Garfin's Jordan Kent does seem to have exceeded the original
expectations of his power level, it’s unlikely that the series will go as far as to
completely eliminate the gap that separates him from his father. With the
exception of Ally Allston, Superman & Lois has so far avoided any character
trumping Clark’s strength. Tal-Rho, Bizzarro, Steel, and other Kryptonians on
the show have all lost fights with Superman. With that in mind, it makes sense
that the series will maintain this approach going forward. Jordan may get
stronger, but the Big Blue Boy Scout should remain the most powerful force on
the planet.

What Jordan’s Powers Increase Means For Season 3

The gains made by Jordan in Superman & Lois season 3 are huge for his
character, especially when it comes to his chances of becoming the show’s
interpretation of Superboy. Earlier in the show’s timeline, Jordan had enhanced
strength and speed, but what he brings to the table now is so much more than
that. Not only has he unlocked Superman’s super speed ability, but he’s also
mastered arctic breath, super hearing, heat ray vision, and most recently, flying.
With those abilities, Jordan should have what it takes to be a competent hero.
He may lack his father’s raw power, but his wide array of abilities should make
up for it whenever he faced a super-powered opponent.

Jordan’s powers are sure to strengthen his argument for participating in

superhero activities when Superman & Lois returns. He’s already demonstrated
a willingness to use his powers for good, so it may not be long before Jordan
takes the next step. While his parents may continue to express opposition to the
idea, Jordan may not be dissuaded from his current path. If his interest in being
a vigilante continues to grow, Jordan may suit up as Superboy as early as

Superman & Lois is gearing up for its third season. After the confirmation that
the series is not set in the Arrowverse's main Earth, the upcoming batch of
episodes presents many exciting possibilities since it offers fresh storylines for
characters, such as David Ramsey's John Diggle.

Another character that is set to take center stage in Season 3 is Jonathan Kent.
Season 2's ending hinted that the Kent family will be closer than ever following
the reveal of a new Fortress of Solitude solely for them, hinting that Jonathan's
training will be pushed to the forefront.

However, the season will bring in new actor Michael Bishop to play Jonathan
following the exit of Jordan Elsass from the role. Now, the first look at the actor
from the set has been revealed.

Superman & Lois Reveals New Jonathan Kent Actor

Canadagraphs shared a video from the filming of Superman & Lois Season 3,
revealing the first look at Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent.
The set photos show Bishop and Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane inside a car,
presumably having a mother and son talk while going to their destination:
Other photos show the actor taking a break on set while talking to Episode 1
director and The Flash actor Tom Cavanagh.

Jonathan Kent's Major Role in Superman & Lois Season 3

Based on the first look, it's safe to say that Michael Bishop's likeness is similar
to Alexander Garfin's Jordan Kent, thus proving even more that they are
brothers. While the photos don't reveal much, it seems likely that Jonathan Kent
is poised to have a major role in Season 3.
Given that the Kent family has its own Fortress of Solitude, it gives more reason
for Jonathan to train even more and help Clark and Jordan to fight crimes and
save Smallville, especially considering the arrival of Bruno Mannheim and the
Intergang.

Moreover, the fact that the image shows Jonathan and Lois Lane together could
hint at even more mother and daughter scenes between the two. Jonathan had
a troublesome storyline in Season 2, such as dealing with X-Kryptonite and an
evil Variant of himself, and more family time will be a welcome storyline for him
as Season 3 moves forward.

Superman & Lois Season 3 will premiere on The CW sometime in 2023.

Smallville’s newest troublemaker should look a little familiar to longtime Arrow
fans.

Chad L. Coleman, who previously tangled with Oliver Queen as Tobias Church
and as of late has played The Orville‘s Klyden, is joining the cast of Superman
& Lois‘ upcoming third season as infamous DC baddie Bruno Mannheim,
TVLine has confirmed.

“Bruno Mannheim is known to most of Metropolis as a local hero, a

philanthropist who’s revived the struggling neighborhoods of the city,” according
to his official description. “For years, Lois Lane has worked to prove that behind
that facade is a career criminal and the head of the notorious organization
Intergang. With some new leads, she might be closer than ever.”

News of Coleman’s casting was first revealed by David Ramsey during a Sept.
3 panel at DragonCon, but his role as Bruno Mannheim wasn’t confirmed until
now.
“We knew we wanted to have our version of Intergang in this show, and we
originally thought it would happen sooner than Season 3,” Superman & Lois
showrunner Todd Helbing told TVLine in June. “Like all of the villains in the
Superman mythos, we want to keep doing what we’ve been doing, which is to
take a classic villain and reinvent them as best we can, to make them
compelling and grounded and tie them into [the show].”

In addition to The Orville, Coleman’s TV resume also includes memorable roles

on The Expanse, All American, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Wire.

Coleman is the second piece of major Superman & Lois casting to come out in
recent weeks. It was also confirmed that Australian actor Michael Bishop will
take over the role of Jonathan Kent, following Jordan Elsass’ unexpected
decision not to return for Season 3.

Fans were able to watch on-location filming for the first episode of Season 3 of
“Superman & Lois” in Vancouver yesterday, with photos and video captured
showing Superman confronting Atom Man.

First seen in a flashback sequence in the episode titled “A Brief Reminiscence

In-Between Cataclysmic Events” (Season 1, Episode 11), Atom Man is the
name given to Henry Miller, a nazi who wears a metal mask and an SS-marked
costume, while armed with various weapons, including a flamethrower.

Images and video captured show Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, in what appears
to be an updated costume for Season 3. The new costume appears to have a
raised/bevelled “S” shield rather than the flatter version seen in previous
versions. In the streets of Metropolis, with bystanders running for cover, Atom
Man rips the door off a nearby taxi and appears to charge at Superman with it.

Titled “Closer,” the first episode of Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” is directed by
Tom Cavanagh from a script written by Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing.
It appears that the title for the Superman & Lois Season 3 premiere has been
revealed.

season premiere title in the process.
Thanks to our friend José who zoomed in on the script in her hand, it appears
the season premiere is called “Closer.” Tom Cavanagh of The Flash fame is
lined up to direct the season premiere, and it appears the writers on “Closer”
are Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing. You can catch the photo up above.

Best of luck to the Superman & Lois Season 3 cast and crew for a successful

The CW has announced that actor Michael Bishop has been cast as Jonathan
Kent for Season 3 of “Superman & Lois,” replacing Jordan Elsass, who stepped
down from the role for personal reasons.

Hailing from the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, Bishop recently made his
American film debut with his breakout lead role of DJ Maz in Disney Channel’s
Original Movie Spin.

Other recent credits include the role of Teddy in the Australian TV series Grace
Beside Me, a supporting role in the feature film Swinging Safari, lead roles in
short films Shelter, Skin Like Bark, Detention, Pet Rock, Hunter and Gatherer
and Indiana.

Bishop is repped by Kimberly Kottwitz at Brave Artists Management and

Superman & Lois has officially found its new Big Bad actor for Season 3.

reported The Direct. The news was announced at DragonCon's "Arrow Guests:
Saving Star City" panel by Arrow's David Ramsey, who previously worked
alongside Coleman when he played Arrow antagonist Tobias Church. However,
Ramsey did not specify the whether his character would be an alien or human
threat to Clark Kent and his allies.

Who Will the Villain Be?

One DC villain that it's speculated Coleman will play is gangster Bruno
Mannheim, whose Season 3 presence was teased at the end of Superman &
Lois' Season 2 finale. In the episode, Ramsey's John Diggle approaches John
Henry Irons (i.e. Steel) to help him investigate the criminal activities of
Mannheim's Intergang gang, mainly due to the fact that Mannheim killed the
Superman & Lois Earth's version of Irons. This would mark the character's
second live-action incarnation after Smallville, where he was played by General
Hospital's Dominic Zamprogna in the episode "Stiletto." Mannheim also notably
appeared in Superman: The Animated Series as a crime boss given advanced
Apokoliptan technology to defeat Superman, only to end up in servitude to
Darkseid on Apokolips.
In addition to potential future Superman & Lois appearances, Ramsey will star
in and direct the pilot episode for the upcoming Arrowverse series Justice U.
The show will see Diggle take up a mentor figure role to five metahumans
posing as regular university students, though any other story details or
connections between Justice U and the wider Arrowverse have yet to be
revealed.

Furthermore, Superman & Lois' latest finale confirmed that this Superman lives
on a parallel Earth rather than the Earth-Prime world established in Crisis on
Infinite Earths, implying that this Diggle is different from his Arrow counterpart.
On why such a major Arrowverse change was made, showrunner Todd Helbing
explained that, when the series began, "there was a desire to put our own
stamp on the Superman mythology and just have it be able to function on its
own." Helbing continued, "But the more we got through Season 1 and the end
of Season 2, it's just felt more honest to not have it be on the same planet."

On top of Coleman's inclusion, Superman & Lois will be losing a key cast
member, as Jordan Elsass recently announced that he will not return for
Season 3 as Jonathan Kent. Elsass cited mental health as the primary reason
for his departure, with the CW confirming that Jonathan will be recast ahead of
the series' return.

Superman & Lois Season 3 will premiere sometime in 2023.

Superman & Lois season 2's massive retcon means that the worst things the
Arrowverse has ever done with Superman never actually happened.

Clark’s worst moments in the Arrowverse are no longer canon with Superman &
Lois. A game-changing reveal in the show’s season 2 finale created a clear
divide between it and all other shows set in the Arrowverse. Now, it’s finally
official that Superman & Lois doesn’t take place on Earth-Prime.

Diggle’s season 1 cameo, the setup in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, and a few
other references caused viewers to take for granted that Supergirl, Flash, and
all the other Arrowverse heroes coexisted with Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and
Bitsie Tulloch’s Lois Lane. But it seems that despite all these things, Superman
& Lois actually has its own continuity. General Lane’s remark that Superman is
Earth’s only hero provides a much-needed, working explanation for why Flash
and Supergirl didn’t show up in season 2 and also gives the series a ready-
made excuse for the next time Clark is treated like the Earth’s only protector.

In addition to fixing this long-running issue, the Superman & Lois season 2
finale simultaneously erased the worst things the Arrowverse has ever done
with Superman. The first was in Supergirl season 2 when a mind-controlled
Clark lost to Supergirl. Afterward, they had a rematch in “Crisis on Infinite
Earths” where she defeated a “full-powered” Man of Steel. The Arrowverse then
doubled down on that by showing Supergirl holding out longer than Clark when
the two had to use their heat ray vision at the same time. Supergirl clearly
positioning Kara above Superman in the Arrowverse’s power structure was
good for her image, but it came at the cost of Superman’s reputation as the
Earth’s strongest hero. So by retconning itself out of the Arrowverse, Superman
& Lois has revealed that the moments that made Hoechlin’s Superman feel so
underwhelming never actually happened.

Why Superman & Lois Needed To Retcon Clark’s Supergirl Story

Looking at what Supergirl did with the Last Son of Krypton, it’s good that Earth-
Prime’s Superman and the version Hoechlin is playing now have been
established as two separate people. Supergirl’s handling of the character left a
stain and only now has it finally been wiped away. Superman & Lois took a step
in the right direction by fully embracing this idea that Superman is the planet’s
strongest character, even in the presence of other Kryptonians. In season 1,
Clark was powerful enough to take on multiple Kryptonian opponents, plus he’s
proven that he can beat Tal-Rho and Bizarro without help. In Superman & Lois’
world, Superman's power is unrivaled, but his Arrowverse history before the
show conflicted greatly with this portrayal.

On Earth-Prime, Superman obviously wasn’t the best the planet had to offer,
which is why it’s actually a good thing that Superman & Lois has confirmed that
the two versions of Clark Kent are in fact different characters. Now instead of
just pretending that Superman didn’t lose repeatedly to another hero several
years ago, the series can cast aside these events from Clark’s past
permanently. They didn’t happen to him, which means that unlike the
Arrowverse incarnation of the hero, Superman & Lois’ Clark truly is the
unstoppable force he was always meant to be.

‘Superman & Lois’ To Recast Jonathan Kent Role As Jordan Elsass Exits the
CW Series

UPDATED: Superman & Lois series regular Jordan Elsass will not be returning
for the upcoming third season of the CW’s DC series. As a result, his role,
Jonathan Kent, will be recast. The decision was made after Texas native Elsass
did not report back to work by the deadline given to the cast to reconvene in
Vancouver where Superman & Lois films.

“Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman
& Lois for season three due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will
be recast,” the series producer Warner Bros. TV said in a statement Tuesday
night.

There is no comment yet from Elsass or his team on the abrupt exit. According
to sources, Elsass has been dealing with serious personal issues, some of them
possibly related to mental health, that the series’ producers became aware of.
There is also conflicting information whether Elsass left or was let go.

Elsass’ Covid vaccination status also is unknown. He is believed to have used

an exception during filming last season, which he seemed to confirm in a
quickly-deleted Instagram story he posed in February, in which he questions
whether vaccines work. Canada has a policy about not allowing unvaccinated
people come into the country, which was recently tested on tennis superstar
Novak Djokovic who was denied entry over his refusal to get a Covid vaccine. In
Elsass’ case, that was a moot point because he did not attempt to return to the
set in Canada, sources said.

On Superman & Lois, Elsass played Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois’ (Elizabeth
Tulloch) son, Jonathan.

Warner Bros. Television has released a statement announcing that Jordan

Elsass will not be returning for Season 3 of “Superman & Lois,” with the role of
Jonathan Kent to be recast.

“Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman
& Lois for season 3 due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be
recast.”

Reports are that this has nothing to do with any workplace-related issues, but is
a personal matter unrelated to the series.
According to a recent interview with showrunner Todd Helbing, Jonathan’s role
in Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” looks likely to include some super-abilities of
his own. “We’ll see if [Jonathan] gets his own suit, if he follows Nat’s lead, and
how it all unfolds,. We definitely want to bring Jonathan into that superhero life
more than he has been.”

Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” begins filming in September, with the first
episode scheduled to premiere in early 2023.

August 1, 2022

Filming for Season 3 of “Superman & Lois” will reportedly begin on Friday,
September 9, 2022 and will continue through until Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

The cast are currently on the convention circuit, with Tyler Hoechlin and
Elizabeth Tulloch having both attended San Diego Comic-Con, while the pair
will be joined by their on-screen sons, Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin at this
month’s Comic Con Wales, before they head to Fan Expo Canada, and then
return to British Columbia, Canada where the series is filmed.

For better or worse, superheroes and law enforcement have long been linked,
which is why the absence of police on Superman & Lois is so revolutionary.

The relationship between superheroes and the police is long and complex. In
early Golden Age comics, Superman often butted heads with local law
enforcement, but with the 1954 introduction of the Comics Code Authority and
its prohibition against portraying police officers in a disrespectful manner,
costumed crime-fighters and local constabularies became much friendlier with
each other. Over the decades, greater freedom and nuance found their way
back into the world of comics, and creators were able to recomplicate the
relationship between superheroes and the police. However, for the most part,
writers have continued to place the two groups on the same side.
Batman works with Commissioner Gordon. Superman works with the Special
Crimes Unit. Even Spider-Man, in the 2018 PlayStation 4 game Spider-Man,
works extensively with the NYPD. Taken uncritically, this makes sense.
Superheroes fight crime, and the police fight crime. They're a match made in
heaven. However, for many fans, particularly following George Floyd's murder
and the resulting social and political unrest, this is an uncomfortable pairing, to
say the least. With the widespread reconsideration of policing and its place in
society, it is particularly noteworthy that Superman & Lois has had little to no
police presence throughout its first two seasons.

The Smallville of Superman & Lois is fairly well-defined. It has everything one
might expect a small town to have, including schools, a local diner, a charming
main street, a mayor and municipal government, seasonal festivals and various
small businesses. A friendly sheriff and a handful of deputies feel like they'd fit
right in with all of these Mayberry-esque trappings. Yet, the only emergency
service in the town appears to be the fire department. This Smallville doesn't
quite have the weekly murder rate of the version featured on Smallville, but it
does face its fair share of dangers. Still, when a threat does arise, it is almost
always Fire and Rescue that responds to the call.

Narratively speaking, Sam Lane's Department of Defense serves many of the

same functions that a police department would on a show like The Flash. They
provide Superman with information and support, and they often take thwarted
supervillains into custody. Then again, as the events of Season 2 revealed,
Superman feels a fair amount of ambivalence about working so closely with a
military organization. Even with his father-in-law in charge, he often pushes
back against the DoD's more violent and extreme tactics. Superman wants to
keep the world safe, but he clearly has reservations about contributing to a
wider police state.

Despite Superman's friendship with cops like Inspectors Bill Henderson, Maggie
Sawyer and Dan Turpin at different points in his history, this complex
relationship with policing is consistent with his character. When discussing DC's
Trinity, writers often describe Wonder Woman as a diplomat, Batman as a cop
and Superman as a firefighter. Indeed, from the beginning, his "neverending
battle" has not been for law and order but, rather, truth and justice. He is more
concerned with keeping people safe than he is with keeping them in line.

In many ways, the absence of police on Superman & Lois is an evolution of how
Smallville handled law enforcement. Throughout its ten seasons, Smallville
featured a precinct's worth of corrupt or otherwise compromised cops. In the
Season 1 episode, "Rogue," a Metropolis detective tries to blackmail Clark. In
the Season 2 episode, "Suspect," Sheriff Ethan frames Jonathan Kent for
shooting Lionel Luthor. In the Season 8 episode, "Bulletproof," Clark helps
uncover a whole gang of corrupt officers. Even "good" law enforcement officials,
like Sheriff Adams, often come across as bullies when dealing with members of
the community.
Police stories, like superhero stories, often hinge on a good guy/bad guy binary.
Cops are good guys, and criminals are bad guys. History shows that reality is
much messier, but series like Law & Order, Blue Bloods, Chicago PD and a
host of others, including many that aren't even centered around law
enforcement, still push this simple narrative. That's what makes the decision to
omit police from Superman & Lois so revolutionary.

Superman is the ultimate good guy, and because of that, he strives to see the
best in everyone. A good/evil binary makes no sense to someone who believes
that everyone is worth saving. Yes, he fights invading Kryptonians, parasitic cult
leaders and the odd monster here and there, but never with undue violence or
as part of a larger need to crush evil. He does it to protect people from danger.
Superman simply wants to keep everyone safe. By leaving out a potentially
problematic police force and avoiding the all-too-common trap of law
enforcement glorification, the writers of Superman & Lois are able to stay true to
the Man of Steel and make the case for a compassion-based approach to public
safety.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Superman & Lois are available to stream on HBO Max.

It's (almost) time to head back to Smallville! Superman & Lois just finished airing
season 2 last month, but series star Elizabeth Tulloch is already looking ahead
to season 3.

When the actor stopped by EW's Comic-Con video suite on Friday, she
admitted that while there are no scripts written yet, she already knows a big
secret about season 3. "Right now I haven't read anything — I know who the big
villain is, which is really exciting, but that's it," Tulloch said. "The writers just got
back into the room I believe a week ago, and we don't start filming until
September."
While she couldn't spill any details about who that villain is (is it Bruno
Manheim? Intergang? Someone/something else entirely?!), she did reveal what
she wants to see for her character Lois Lane when The CW's superhero drama
returns in the fall.

"More of Lois being a journalist and going on scouts or spying on people, the
kind of stuff that she would have been doing more when she was still at The
Daily Planet, having some more of that happening in Smallville," she says.
"More of a team up with Clark [Tyler Hoechlin] as journalists because that's how
they met and fell in love. I think that would be really fun." Yes, please!
Showrunner Todd Helbing, are you listening?

Looking back on season 2's Bizarro arc, Tulloch reveals that she loved getting
to play such an extremely different version of Lois. "Bizarro Lois was fun. I really
liked that wig," she says. "I absolutely texted our showrunner and was like, 'Do I
need bangs?'" She laughs before adding, "It also was such a dark variation ... It
was a really fun episode. It was just such a departure."
Superman & Lois' season 2 finale confirmed that the show is not part of the
Arrowverse, and having the series stand alone works much better for it.
BY BRAD CURRAN

Superman & Lois is not part of the Arrowverse's Earth-Prime, and the show is
better off for that. Superman & Lois season 2 ends with the Man of Steel
defeating Ally Allston (Rya Kihlstedt) and ending her plot to merge Earth with
the Bizarro World. During Superman's efforts to stop her, his father-in-law
General Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh) gives a speech to the Kent boys Jordan (Alex
Garfin) and Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) that establishes Superman as the world's
only superhero.

This news made it clear that Superman & Lois takes place on a different Earth
and in a different universe from the shows that make up the Arrowverse. With
Tyler Hoechlin having already played Superman in the Arrowverse, this
revelation took some fans of both by surprise. Superman & Lois has hinted at
not being an Arrowverse entity all along, but the more pertinent point is that its
lack of Arrowverse connectivity is actually to the show's advantage.

Superman & Lois has always had night and day differences with the general
style of the Arrowverse, and even before the news of season 2's finale,
whatever suspected connection there was between the two was never more
than casual. With Superman & Lois definitely taking place in its own world, the
series has a multitude of advantages on its side that it would not have as an
Arrowverse series. Here are the reasons why Superman & Lois was, and still is,
better off not taking place within the Arrowverse.

Superman & Lois Has Worked Well As A Standalone Show

Tyler Hoechlin in Superman & Lois pic

Superman & Lois, in its contained format, has really succeeded in its singular
focus on Tyler's Hoechlin's Man of Steel and his family life. In placing
Superman's heroic deeds on equal footing with Clark Kent's familial
commitments, Superman & Lois is both a family drama and a superhero
adventure. That is also a combination that the series has been afforded by not
having to also divide its attention to its role in connecting to the shows of the
Arrowverse. Had it been required to do so from the start, Superman & Lois
would likely have had to greatly change much of how it has presented itself and
its story in helping to maintain a larger universe. This gets into the flipside of the
challenges in what a connected universe of shows or movies brings with it.
Shared universes are a great device for world-building and bringing together
ensemble casts, and especially for superhero fans of Arrowverse shows like
The Flash, the perfect tool to bring the interconnected continuity in the pages of
comic books to life. However, shared universes also don't come without their
burdens and storytelling parameters. As seen on the Arrowverse, having the
shows all inhabit the same world provided a strong foundation for team-ups,
crossovers, and annual events with all the shows playing key roles. The trade-
off of the perks that brought comes in the fealty each series has to maintain the
general continuity structure they make up as one larger whole. Superman &
Lois as is would require significant modifications to be a true Arrowverse player,
and Superman himself would hardly be the only character having to adapt.

As seen in its title, Superman & Lois recognizes Lois Lane's importance to the
Superman mythos, making her role in the series as central as her husband's.
Moreover, since Superman & Lois began, Jordan with his superpowers and
Jonathan in his own story have been anything but secondary characters; their
normal adolescent struggles and amplified challenges as effectively part of the
House of El on Earth are crucial elements to the show. Clark's high school
girlfriend Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui) also goes through her own engaging
story in becoming Smallville's mayor while facing a crumbling marriage to her
husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez) and relationship with her daughter Sarah
(Inde Navarrette).
The list doesn't stop there either, with John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) getting to
be both a hero on his own terms and shown in his comic book her partnership
with Superman, a big reversal from DC's 1997 big-screen flop Steel, with John's
daughter Natalie (Tayler Buck) also following in his footsteps, as well.
Superman & Lois, as an Arrowverse show, would likely have needed to either
jettison or truncate other character arcs or even whole supporting characters
altogether. With Superman himself called upon to help make that work,
Superman & Lois' supporting characters would be the ones to get the short end
of the stick.

The Multiverse Is Where Superman & Lois Would Best Set Up Connections To
Other Shows

While not strictly an Arrowverse show, Superman & Lois does not necessarily
have to exist completely in isolation from other DC TV shows or movies. The
shared universe itself is increasingly taking a back seat to the more
encompassing idea of the Multiverse, especially in superhero media where that
idea is as entrenched in comic book lore as singular universes are. DC would
come to undercut reboots when its entire history of film and television was
made into one big Multiverse with the CW's Crisis On Infinite Earths mini-series,
establishing countless worlds in which everything from Tim Burton's Batman to
the cinematic DCEU exists.

Superman & Lois might not take place on Earth-Prime, but the show has been
heavily steeped in Multiverse stories from day one, so there are no barriers to
having a Multiverse story to bring Hoechlin's Superman into the Arrowverse or
vice-versa. Doing so could even bring Hoechlin's Arrowverse Superman and his
Kal-El from Superman & Lois face-to-face as a way to continue exploring
season 2's story with Bizarro and his Superman life in the parallel universe of
the Bizarro world. However the show would choose to go about it, the doorway
into the DC Multiverse is one that Superman & Lois has long since been
unlocked, so actual Arrowverse crossovers would be far from out of the
question.

Superman & Lois Could Still Include Cameos & New Supporting Characters

Aside from making a Multiverse trip to the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois could
build out its world with its own cameos and newly debuting characters from the
Superman family. Superman's Kryptonian cousin Supergirl is the one that most
immediately springs to mind, and could even involve Melissa Benoist as a
different version of Kara Zor-El from Supergirl similar to Hoechlin's own new
version of Superman. The show has also already set up a whole new John
Diggle with David Ramsey's cameo so retaining him in a different capacity from
his role as the ally of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) on Arrow would be another
possibility.

Even with the potential for expanding its character roster as a Superman show,
throwing in new characters purely for the sake of doing so is not a direction
Superman & Lois should move into either, especially with how well the show
has managed its cast of characters so far. Still, as a Superman series that
places its DC hero focus on Superman himself, building up the show's
ensemble in a way that serves its larger story is fully possible. Without having to
devote its attention to its role in the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois post-season
2 twist has the freedom to bring aboard any new characters it wants.

The Arrowverse has built many enduring shows and interpretations of different
DC heroes since it began with Arrow and expanded with the addition of The
Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and the other shows that were its cornerstones.
Shared universes have brought many great possibilities in the contemporary of
superheroes having a major foothold in every corner of popular media. In the
end, with the path it has chosen to travel, Superman & Lois is far better off in its
own corner of the huge DC Multiverse than it would have been in the
Arrowverse, and with its status made clear, it can keep doing everything it does
so well with the Last Son of Krypton's adventures.

Superman & Lois Season 3: John Diggle Seemingly Returns After S2 Twist
David Ramsey, who portrays Arrowverse's John Diggle, will return for
Superman & Lois season 3 following the big season 2 twist.

BY ANDY BEHBAKHT
David Ramsey, who portrays Arrowverse's John Diggle, will seemingly return for
Superman & Lois season 3 following the big season 2 twist. Superman & Lois
season 2 had an interesting turn this year as the finale finally answered one of
the show's biggest mysteries. Since Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman & Lois
has done little to knowledge its place in the larger franchise, despite claiming to
be set on Earth-Prime along with the other shows like The Flash, Supergirl,
Arrow, and more. The five-part crossover's whole point was to bring all the
current shows together to exist on the same Earth.

While Arrow's Diggle appeared in Superman & Lois season 1, the show still was
very limited in acknowledging the rest of the franchise. Whether it was
referencing Clark Kent's cousin Kara Zor-El or other heroes like The Flash,
Superman & Lois just went on with season 2 without talking about its place on
Earth-Prime. However, the Superman & Lois season 2 finale took a sudden turn
when they had Sam Lane reference that the show doesn't take place on Earth-
Prime after all. Despite being tied to the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois now
exists on an unspecified Earth.

As Superman & Lois exists in a different universe, it also cleared up Diggle's

season 1 appearance, with this being a doppelganger and not the Earth-Prime
version. While the Superman & Lois season 2 finale established that this is a
new Diggle, season 3 will seemingly give more answers about this character.
Ramsey, who portrayed Diggle in eight seasons of Arrow, was recently at the
London Film and Comic Con (via Daily Geekly) where he confirmed to a fan that
he will be back in Superman & Lois season 3. Not only will Diggle return for
season 3, but Ramsey is also set to direct another episode of Superman & Lois.
While The CW and Warner Bros. TV has yet to make any formal announcement
for Diggle's return, it makes sense given the events of the Superman & Lois
season 2 finale. In episode 15, titled "Waiting for Superman," Diggle returned to
Smallville to pay John Henry Irons a visit. Despite this being a doppelganger,
this Diggle still works at ARGUS and informs Steel that he has found who
murdered the John Henry Irons of this universe. According to Diggle, Bruno
Mannheim, who is the leader of Intergang, was the man responsible for getting
this world's Irons killed. Diggle offered John the chance to take Bruno down,
which sets up Superman & Lois season 3.

It always felt like an obvious choice to have Diggle be present in Superman &
Lois season 3, especially as part of John's Bruno-related storyline. Given the
big Earth-Prime twist in the Superman & Lois season 2 finale, having Diggle
return next season allows the show to further expand what else is different with
this Diggle. With Superman & Lois as one of the few remaining Arrowverse
shows, Ramsey only has this show and The Flash season 9 to appear on, only
this time he is now playing two Diggle doppelgangers. Since Superman & Lois
season 3 won't premiere until 2023, it will be quite some time before more
information on Diggle's storyline is

Superman and Lois will return for a third season on the CW, but when will it
return and what new villains will test the Man of Steel and his family?
BY MATT MORRISON
Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois' season 2
finale.

The triumphant finale of Superman & Lois season 2 prompted rampant

speculation regarding Superman & Lois season 3 and the series' future.
Curiously, "Waiting for Superman" did far more to resolve the show's current
storylines than to lay the groundwork for the next season's story. Despite this,
there were still a number of notable developments that hinted at what is to
come, including the introduction of Jack Kirby's New Gods into the Arrowverse.

Describing Superman & Lois season 2 as unpredictable would be an

understatement. The 15-episode storyline contained multiple fake-outs and
deep cuts into the considerable lore contained within the classic Superman
comics that inspired the show. The best example of this came early in the
season with the apparent arrival of Doomsday, only to reveal the mysterious
figure that emerged from the mines under Smallville as the Bizarro Superman.
Yet even this was a twist, with the Bizarro Superman unveiled as a hero
seeking to save his world and the world of Superman & Lois from the season's
true main villain, cult leader Ally Allston, who transformed herself into a parasitic
being after merging with her Bizarro doppelganger.

With the help of his family and friends, Superman was able to avert Allston's
plan to merge Bizarro World with his own Earth, which was also confirmed to
not be the Earth-Prime that houses most of the other Arrowverse superhero
series. This explained why Superman & Lois was the only CW superhero show
that did not crossover with The Flash during the Armageddon event and the
many inconsistencies between the world of Superman and Lois and Supergirl.
This was perhaps the most stunning news to come out of Superman & Lois
season 2, episode 15, "Waiting for Superman," but it was not the only shocking
occurrence. These developments all leave room for plenty of exciting story
progression in Superman & Lois season 3. Here's everything that's currently
known about Superman & Lois season 3.

Superman & Lois Season 3 Story Details & Setup

The biggest story hook for Superman & Lois season 3 came in a brief scene in
which John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) was confronted by ARGUS agent John
Diggle (David Ramsey) while grabbing a meal at a diner in Smallville. Diggle
offered Irons a classified folder and said that he wanted to talk to him about
Bruno Manheim, the gangster who ran the criminal organization called
Intergang. When Irons said he didn't know anything about Manheim or
Intergang, being a doppelganger from another Earth, Diggle explained that
Intergang had apparently killed his world's version of John Henry Irons and he
needed to figure out why. This built upon two subplots from Superman & Lois
season 1; reports that Intergang was becoming more active in Metropolis in
Superman's absence and the revelation that John Henry Irons' doppelganger
died under mysterious circumstances in 2015.
Given that Superman & Lois has a history of sudden twists and unexpected
villains showing up, it would not be surprising if the introduction of Intergang
might act as a springboard to bring Jack Kirby's New Gods into the Arrowverse.
Kirby began introducing the characters and concepts that made up his Fourth
World while writing and drawing Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. Kirby's conceit
that a race of intergalactic villains might utilize common criminals on Earth as
proxies in their own grand games introduced the villain Darkseid into the DC
Comics universe and it could do the same in Superman & Lois season 3.
Beyond the tease of Bruno Manheim and Darkseid, the most interesting new
idea introduced for Superman & Lois season 3 is the new Fortress of Solitude,
which Clark Kent created alongside his family in the final scene of "Waiting for
Superman." The new Fortress is more remote than the original, being located
on an island made of crystal somewhere in the Arctic Sea. Despite Jonathan
Kent's dry observation that only people who could fly could reach it, Clark
assured him that this Fortress would somehow be accessible to their whole
family.

When Will Superman & Lois Season 3 Release?

While Superman & Lois season 3 has been confirmed, it is unclear at this time
just when it might air. With the CW having already announced its schedule for
Fall 2022 and no superhero shows but Stargirl season 3 being on it, the soonest
the series might air is early in 2023. This would fit the pattern of previous years,
when Superman & Lois premiered shortly after the first of the year.
