How Tito Sotto tried to ban the Eraserheads

At least not in the way he almost did, in 1995, when he swooped in on the Eraserheads’ song
Alapaap, spoiling to yank it off the air after the Junior Drug Watchers, whoever the hell they
were, decoded its lyrics as rhapsodizing about a meth high, and brought them to his attention.
Fangs were bared, not only to the Eraserheads but to Teeth and Parokya Ni Edgar, among others,
including, inexplicably, Slayer. Pro-youth-slash-anti-drug was the flag he flew under back then.
And rock and roll has always been the go-to scapegoat of any anti-drug campaign.

The band got off the hook, sure. They wrote the Senator a letter explaining how the lyrics were
misconstrued, declaring it a song not about drugs but about freedom, and he was gracious
enough to back off. Of course, like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Alapaap could well be a
drug song, except that it shouldn’t and doesn’t matter.

In 1982, Joey de Leon along with Vic Sotto and Richie D’Horsie made headlines when
underaged actress Pepsi Paloma accused the trio of gang raping her. The case was settled out of
court and the trio made a public apology to Paloma. Paloma committed suicide by hanging
herself in 1985

Eraserhead’s Spoliarium is said to be an allusion to Pepsi’s rape case

It is actually the story of the rape victim Pepsi who were allegedly raped by Vic, Joey. She was
made to drink too much by the three (this is described in the first 3 stanzas of the song) and when
she was unconscious, they raped her. Pepsi died when she was about to cry out for justice. There
were rumors that Pepsi did not commit suicide but she was killed to stop her from testifying in
court. So after knowing that, the song is pretty much direct except for some parts like “itigil
muna ang pag-ikot ng mundo”. We can interpret this part differently. It can mean that the victim
wanted her oppressors to stop their manipulations or she was just too tired of everything that’s
happening that she wanted the world to just stop.

Lyrics :
Dumilim ang paligid
may tumawag sa pangalan ko – XXX called out to PEPSI
labing isang palapag –Unit 1108 of a condo in San Juan (Sinundo ni Richie D’Horsie sa
Ibaba ng Building.)
tinanong kung okey lang ako – One of them XXX had the habit of asking people “Ok ka
lang?”
sabay abot ng baso –inuman session kasi
may naghihintay
at bakit ba ‘pag nagsawa na ako
biglang ayoko na
at ngayon
di pa rin alam
kung ba’t tayo nandito
puwede bang itigil muna
ang pag-ikot ng mundo
lumiwanag ang buwan – xx xx xx “we stayed up till sunrise; in fact, everyone were so wasted
that they ended up crashing there that night (oh, except pala for Joey whom I distinctly
san juan
di ko na nasasakyan
ang lahat ng bagay ay
gumuguhit na lang
sa ‘king lalamunan
ewan mo at ewan natin
sinong may pakana?
at bakit ba tumilapon ang
gintong alak diyan sa paligid mo? –Goldshlagger: a hot cinnamon schnapps drink infused
with pure 23k gold flakes…that got everyone wasted! “Gintong alak” is Goldschläger, very
strong Italian cinnamon schnapps which is one of the culprits for the intoxication that
evening.
at ngayon
di pa rin alam
kung ba’t tayo nandito
puwede bang itigil muna
ang pag-ikot ng mundo
umiyak ang umaga
anong sinulat ni enteng at joey diyan
sa pintong salamin –Enteng and Joey
di ko na mabasa
pagkat merong nagbura –Testimonies of Joey and Vic were changed. Yet on they made
public apologies in 1985 Phil. Daily Inquirer
ewan ko at ewan natin
sinong nagpakana?
at bakit ba tumilapon ang spoliarium
diyan sa paligid mo?.

Mang Donald’s vs McDonald’s

LEVI’S (Levi Strauss wins Copyright Case )

mahigit sa dalawampu’t walong libong pekeng Louis Vuitton bags, leather cases and accessories

Mang Donald's vs McDonald's

This store started as a “small take-out window” in a movie theater in Naga City offering
burgers and fries. It was developed by three friends who share the same passion for food. This
store, named Mang Donald's, has grown because it is delicious and affordable. Their business
grew even more and became famous among the Naga people because of the unique taste of their
food. Another reason is the resemblance of the restaurant's name to a famous and large
restaurant, McDonald's. The latter filed a lawsuit and stopped the operation of Mang Donald's in

Levi Strauss and Company (one of the largest clothing companies in America) won the
case it filed against a clothing company in the Philippines. CVS Garment and Industrial
Company has been fined more than $1,600 for violating copyright laws. CVS Garment allegedly
copied the Levis pants pocket design which is one of the company's most popular designs.
According to the highest Court in the Philippines, the production of said pants was also stopped.

LOUIS VUITTON (28K fake Louis Vuitton goods seized in the Philippines)

for nine years according to their violation of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

QUESTION: CAN STUDENTS XEROX A BOOK TO SAVE?

law aims to use a copyrighted material by commenting or criticizing a work. Fair use also covers
teaching a work in schools and making LIMITED copies of it. BUT SELLING IT MAY
INCLUDE PENALTIES.
