Building your Confidence
to Create Amazing Videos

C R E AT I N G V I D E O S CO N F I D E N C E with J E S S C ATO R C

This lesson is all about boosting your confidence, which is how you feel
inside when it comes to delivering your content and also, how you can
deliver it in a natural way.

W H Y I S T H I S S O I M P O R TA N T ?

One of the biggest challenges that holds so

many entrepreneurs back from delivering impor tant
and impactful information through video is that
they just don’t feel like they’re good enough or
that they shouldn’t be on video.

What we will cover in this lesson are tips to help you

overcome these feelings and limiting beliefs.

CONFIDENCE-BUILDING TIPS

Thought Exercise:

When you think of someone who is confident on video, what does that type
of person look like to you? (hilarious / over the top / energetic)

We all have an idea of what we think we should look and act like when
we’re delivering content, but the problem with this is that we tr y to mimic
this person and it tends to come across like an awkward or forced ver sion
of this. So often, we feel like we don’t look good on video because we’re
delivering our content in a way that is not aligned with the way we speak
and act in real life.

TIP #1: Talking to a friend

Practice recording videos as if you were speaking to someone you know. You
can do this in real life or even through Zoom or Facetime - simply deliver your
content as if you were speaking to them.

You can also print out a photo of someone you know and stick it up close to
your camera or laptop so that when you’re speaking on video you can actually
feel like that person is there.

Get clear on who that person is before you star t recording and simply
pretend you are speaking to them - it will help you feel so much more
natural and you will come across so much more authentic.

TIP #2: Power Poses

Your confidence doesn’t magically start when you press record - it starts
building in the minutes before you even sit down. You want to make sure that
as soon as you sit down to record, you feel ready!

Power poses are really effective to raise our energy and confidence. Check out
this TED Talk by Amy Cuddy to learn more about the effect of body language
on our mindset and behaviour.

TIP #3: Raise your energy with movement

Movement helps you get into a mindset of high energy, feeling good and
excited to deliver content.

There’s no special technique, you can literally just dance around the house!
This technique is often used by public speakers!

TIP #4: Comfort

Sometimes we wear things that might not be very comfortable or do not

really match our personality just because we feel like they look good on
camera.

But this leads us to feeling uncomfor table! So just be mindful to wear clothing
that makes you feel comfor table and at ease.

TIP #1: FOAM: Focus on a Message

When we get into situations where we feel really ner vous, our attention is in
so many different places, which leads us to feeling overwhelmed and out of
control.

When you feel like this think of FOAM: think of the message you’re delivering
and focus on just that!

THOUGHT EXERCISE:

Imagine you are having coffee with a friend or someone you feel
comfor table with - if they were to ask you a question, you wouldn’t really get
overwhelmed about answering - you would feel at ease about your reply back
- that is FOAM!

Whenever you find yourself getting nervous, ask yourself:

1 What am I tr ying to say?
2 Why am I tr ying to say this?
3 Who am I tr ying to reach?

Write down a few ideas for how you can put these tips into practice or into
a routine you can follow every time you come to record videos:

Choosing your Deliver y

C R E AT I N G V I D E O S CO N F I D E N C E with J E S S C ATO R C

In this lesson we’re going to cover how to practice being on video so that
you can improve your skills as well as figuring out the best ways to actually
deliver your content.

It’s so impor tant to get clear on this because a lot of times it’s the method or
approach we’re using for video that is the problem, not our confidence. It’s all
about finding what works for us and our individual strengths.

There are 3 different ways to deliver your content:

1 SCRIPTING OR USING SLIDES

PROS CONS

▲ You don’t need to “memorize” anything. ▼ It takes a lot more time because you have to

2 USING BULLET POINTS

PROS CONS

▲ This method takes less time because you ▼ Can require more practice because you have

simply write out the main points or topics to speak from memor y or experience.
that you want to cover, rather than writing
whole sentences and paragraphs.

▲ This is a great way to sound natural because

it makes you think about what you have to

say, which ends up sounding more like a
normal conver sation.

3 WING IT!

PROS CONS

▲ Great if you are used to speaking on or ▼ Can be challenging if you struggle to speak

teaching the topic you will be filming about. from memor y.

Here are a few tips to help you practice in a way that will actually help
you to improve your skills:

Tip #1 VA R I AT I O N S

Film 3 styles of videos talking about any topic:

1 Film normally: Film the first video as if you were going to post or
share it.

2 Overly energetic: Film the second version of the video in an

overly energetic way. You should feel silly when you’re doing this.

3 Lower energy: Film another version in really low energy, speaking

ver y calmly.

Look back at each of these 3 videos and write out your thoughts and
comments below (you might be surprised at what you see!):

This will help you understand what style of level of energy is best when you

Record 3 videos knowing that you will never post them or share them.
This is helpful because we usually record videos with the intention of
sharing them, but when we record videos simply for practice, it takes
the pressure off, turns into a fun experiment and helps us improve our
skills.

Planning your Video Content

C R E AT I N G V I D E O S CO N F I D E N C E with J E S S C ATO R C

In this lesson you will learn a turnkey system for mapping out your content,
which will save you time and make the process easier.

OBC - OUTCOME BASED CONTENT

There are so many different ways of planning your video content, but OBC is
a great and easy way to do it.

The fir st step of outcome-based content is to identify an outcome,

transformation or end-goal for that content and work your way back from
there.

M AC RO O U T C O M E

(i.e. the big or “final” outcome your viewers will achieve)

Step 3 to reaching that outcome

When you use this approach for your videos (or any type of content), it
becomes so much easier to plan out what you need to say

Come up with a few content or video ideas by starting out with a macro
outcome:

TIPS:

 If you’re str uggling to come up with the steps to get to your outcome, it
may mean that your macros outcome is too big or vague. Tr y making your
final outcome more specific or niche!

 If you’re recording a video series rather than just 1 piece of content, each
step you identify will be a video on its own and will need to have its own
steps and outcome.

P L A N N I N G O U T W H AT T O S AY

When it comes to planning to what to say in a video, you simply need to

answer 3 specific questions:

1. What are they about to learn?

2. Why is it impor tant?

3. Show them how.

Whenever you come to create any type of content, whether that’s blog posts,
podcasts or any other type, simply star t with the final outcome in mind and
the steps will reveal themselves from there.

Equipment should not stop you from diving in and tr ying out video and we
often use this as a form of procrastination when we don’t feel ready yet to tr y
it out.

So don’t let this hold you back, but if you’d love to learn more about video
equipment and setup, here are a few tips to get you started:

Lighting can be more impor tant than what camera you use. You don’t need a
fancy light setup, a simple ring light will work to light up your face. However,
use natural light whenever you can! Natural light is the best and it’s free!

When it comes to choosing your equipment, always prioritize your

microphone! Audio is more impor tant than the quality of your video.

Here a few great quality

When it comes to cameras:
microphones:
• Your phone is often perfect!
• Blue Yeti
• Logitech C920 Hd Pro
